Hello, which naming conventions are usual for Zope objects? For example: pyThatScript ptPageTemplate OR zptPageTemplate What do you use? What can you recommend? Thanks, Florian

Display Plone Topic in body of page

My aim is to show a list of links to recently added content, such as news items, pdf's, msword docs etc. on my sites home page. However, I do not want every recently added content item listed, only selected content. In my limited experience it occurs to me that a Plone 'Topic' is the correct tool to employ. Therefore, I've created a Topic called 'update' which searches on the keyword (added to selected content items) 'update'. The Topic works fine when logged into Plone and clicking on the topic name to view all the links it collects. However, I want to show the result of the Topic in the body of my index_html page to all anonymous users. I am not sure if I should do this using Plone's edit page tool, or by using ZMI to edit the template 'index_html' itself. I get the impression that it could be done either way, but I'd appreciate any advice on best practice in this regard. An actual code example would be very appreciated as I am new to Plone/Zope/TAL and Python. Many thanks. date formatting question

This is silly but in the ZPT I'm working on I can't get the bobobase modification time to format in a non-ugly fashion I tried : <a tal:attributes="href item/absolute_url" tal:content="item/bobobase_modification_time" fmt=aCommon> title</a> but it pretty much ignores the formatting suggestion. Spent an evening and few hours more learning how to install Oracle and DCOracle2 on linux to be used with Zope. Distribution that I am using is Fedora core 1. I Downloaded Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.1.0 and followed excellent instructions on page: http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Oracle-9i-RH8-and-RH9-HOWTO-1.html Following step by step the installation went just swimmingly. I downloaded DCOracle2 from zope.org: http://www.zope.org/Members/matt/dco2/ While doing make ( see INSTALL ) make sure that you have ORACLE_HOME and LD_LIBRARY_PATH set, and that you have sufficient rights to those shared libraries. Set those enviroment variables also to zope start-script, or otherwise your zope startup will fail when DCOracle tries to import those libs. Just an example I had to add these to my zope startup-script: ORACLE_BASE=/home/oracle/ ORACLE_HOME=/home/oracle/product/9.2.0.1.0 ORACLE_SID=portaali LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:$ORACLE_HOME/lib:$ORACLE_HOME/network/lib export ORACLE_BASE ORACLE_HOME ORACLE_SID LD_LIBRARY_PATH And now it works. -- -huima

Version Control in CMF/Plone?

A feature I mis in Zope/CMF/Plone is version control of documents. With this I mean for example that authors can (minimally) view and revert to previous versions of documents. This as opposed to the back-end Revision Manager product which allows versioning of Zope objects in CVS. I've found a reference to a project to integrate version control in Zope. http://dev.zope.org/Wikis/DevSite/Projects/ZopeVersionControl/FrontPage. Is it known what the status is of this endavour? Security?

Maybe I'm taking the wrong approach. I'm using an external Python module because I'm the most comfortable with programming in a computer language. The module itself is fairly complex because it needs to pull in multiple lines of SQL data and then match them together. For example, it puts current year, prior year, and plan data together into one line. The line order is defined in another table. I don't think I could do it using just ZPT or DTML. I could do this with a Python script except that from the examples it looks like they're more procedural and don't work with Python classes. I guess I could do that but I'm hesitant to give up OOP. CMFPhoto: Invalid Date Components

I am running Plone on a Redhat 9 box. I am able to see the thumbnails from a cmfphotoalbum folder, but when I click on any one of the photos, I got this message: Error Type: Invalid Date Components Error Value: 0000:00:00 00:00:00 What should I do at this point? I would appreciate any help you might be able to provide. bz

Zope Port Question - Running on Port 80

I'm trying to move my Zope instance from port 9673 to port 80 and have some fairly basic questions regarding the port configuration. In my z2.py file the parameter HTTP_PORT is set to 8080. This is the only z2.py file on the machine. In /etc/zopectl/zopectlrc 9673 referenced as the HTTP port. If I change 9673 to 80 and restart Zope I don't get an error, but I can't resolve. If I try to access port 80 while Zope is running on 9673 I don't get a page resolved. Apache is running (on port 80 according to httpd.conf). If I change Apache to run on another port (say 8080) then Zope stops working. It would seem as Zope is using Apache as a proxy, but why not on port 80. Is there a simple way to reconfigure this instance to use port 80 either via Apache or the Zope HTTP server? At present I want to access the site via IP instead of domain name. troubles using Zope/SSL without Apache

We serve zope from a linux machine behind a load balancer that performs hardware-based ssl encryption. Formerly, requests from the LB were forwarded to the zope machine using apache as a proxy. Troubles began when we removed apache from the picture and started running requests directly from the LB to the server port Zope listens on...since doing that, certain management interfaces (not all!) do not function correctly and I have figured out why: in the html frameset for /manage, the three subframe htmldocs are being called via http:// not https://. (However, the relatively-linked inline assets such as images and stylesheets are correctly addressed using https://.) Any idea why this is happening, and what I can do to force Zope to properly set 'https' in the absolute links it generates? Secondly, and I'm sure it's related, login functionality (the web-based one, not the http auth) in a Plone install on this Zope instance has stopped working correctly. Any tips on that are greatly appreciated as well. Thanks for any advice, Jim
