troubles using Zope/SSL without Apache
by Jim Abramson 01 Dec '03

01 Dec '03

We serve zope from a linux machine behind a load balancer that performs hardware-based ssl encryption. Formerly, requests from the LB were forwarded to the zope machine using apache as a proxy. Troubles began when we removed apache from the picture and started running requests directly from the LB to the server port Zope listens on...since doing that, certain management interfaces (not all!) do not function correctly and I have figured out why: in the html frameset for /manage, the three subframe htmldocs are being called via http:// not https://. (However, the relatively-linked inline assets such as images and stylesheets are correctly addressed using https://.) Any idea why this is happening, and what I can do to force Zope to properly set 'https' in the absolute links it generates? Secondly, and I'm sure it's related, login functionality (the web-based one, not the http auth) in a Plone install on this Zope instance has stopped working correctly. Any tips on that are greatly appreciated as well. Thanks for any advice, Jim

Newbie questions

Hello Zope-Masters ! Please help me with some examples/answers ! 1.) I cannot show results of Z-SQL method. I see the examples on web, on tutorial, but... ZSQL method name: testgroup. select id,name from inst_group Under KInterBase Connection, the test show the results. But if I wrinte into index.html: ... <dtml-in testgroup> x <li><dtml-var id>: <dtml-var name></li> </dtml-in> ... then it is don't show the results. Why ? Every example do this way. I do it with another tables, and another databases (ex. Gadfly) to avoid possible IB errors/bugs. But no result. Why ? What I do wrong ? 2.) I want to process the result of zsql query under PythonScript (select * from xxx). How to I call this method from PythonScript ? How to I get the result rows ? Please show with an example ! 3.) There is an (K)InterBase Connection. I want to access the IB specials. These are: - start transaction/Commit/Rollback, more if possible - call stored procs - set the transactions isolation level How to I do it under Zope ? I have an examples ? 4.) If there are two requests in zope, and the scripts are have use (K)InterBase Connection, that the connection object is duplicated ? The ZSQL method objects are duplicated also ? So: the requests' processes are separated ? 5.) I wan to log in users under zope just like php. This is the logical scheme (pseudo): browser session handling on handler: if mainsession is empty: result= form username/pwd /form submit button elif: get submitted form check username/pwd if wrong: result=errorform else: mainsession set to(userid, username, otherdatas) result=mainform for logined user So: the login form is one the main form, but some menus are disabled. When user have been logined, the menus are enabled. The checking is based on ZSQL method (select check). The questions are: - how to I do it under Zope, to Zope use the Session ID like PHP, and how to I write the session datas to session variable(s); and how to load/get values from it ? - how to I force Zope to the logined user is set to an existing zope user (only one for all logined user). I don't want to duplicate the user management into zope, I want to use my usernames in my IB database. 6.) Under Zope I how to create/set an variable in PyScript what useable in DTML ? So how to set more DTML variables under PyScript ? (example: dtml_username='xxx'; dtml_func="8"; etc.) or only I do it only with one with this: <dtml-var expr="myscript"> myscript.return(vmi) ? 7.) If I write this: <dtml-var expr="myzsqlmethod"> I get all of results of the method ? 8.) What is the ZSQL method caching (1000 row)? Is this an data packet size ? How to I get more records ? Can you show an example (not the Book's Batch, please show another) ? 9.) How to I import XML file ? I export my zope folder in home. I want to use another site. But I cannot do import. I try with these variations: c:\test.xml file://localhost/C:/test.xml Thanx for any help, examples, links. But please: don't say to I read the main book, every day I do, but my special questions I cannot found in it. KK -- Best regards, fowlertrainer mailto:fowlertrainer@anonym.hu

Posible memory leak?

Or there is a memory leak here? In a previous post http://mail.zope.org/pipermail/zope/2002-January/107054.html Max M maxm(a)mxm.dk said: >If your item is subclassing persistent you should expect them to stay in >the zodb. Leading to a bloated Data.fs ... if you don't pack >it regularly. > >But doing something like that with that many objects is the wrong way to >use the zodb. From this and other sources I've been told *not* to store a Persistent object as an attribute of another object, as this would cause a memory leak. But maybe a PersistentMapping is specially crafted? I dont see anything special in its source. Perhaps the enlightened people could explain the rules to avoid memory leaks... Gabriel Genellina Softlab SRL

base href
by Ian Bicking 01 Dec '03

01 Dec '03

I'm having a problem with LocalFS, HTML files, and the <base href> that gets added to pages. But I feel, at its source, Zope is just being nuts. HTTPResponse.insertBase inserts <base href> to pages; in turn, this base is set in HTTPResponse.setBase, where it ensures that the base always ends in "/". This causes paths to grow, as leaf pages (non-directory pages) get treated like directories. This is annoying in normal Zope objects, but LocalFS objects don't seem to acquire parents, so the extra elements in the URL that point to a LocalFS are just broken. While these growing URLs seem to be a persistent problem for many people in Zope, I assume there is a way that the paths *should* work. What do people do to get rid of these? Is there a way to keep HTTPResponse from adding a <base href> at all? (I could add "" to pages to trick insertBase into thinking the tag has already been added, but that's obviously a bad hack) -- Ian Bicking | ianb(a)colorstudy.com | http://blog.ianbicking.org

Streaming video/audio through a Zope site
by Etienne Labuschagne 01 Dec '03

01 Dec '03

Hi there, What are possible solutions for offering streamed resources on a Zope site? I was thinking of running Zope behind Apache and get some other product to handle the streamed content. That way Zope serves content the usual way and the links to the streamed content points to the streaming media server software (all behind Apache, so it "looks" like it is coming from the same site). Does this solution sound viable, and are there any suggestions on the software to use as the streaming server - preferably Linux, not too expensive and something that streams a well known format and which can work with Apache. Any suggestions? Thanks Etienne

Re: [Zope] Add file

Hi, Thanks, yes you are right this a subset of users and passwords should be used. I need to think about how they check for space. I am hoping that most of their files are small. Most will be images and wave files. Thanks again. Add file
by lmcdonnell＠iwon.com 01 Dec '03

Hi, I need to find a way to my users have access to the "Add File" feature. The users do not login. I have them using index_html documents as their way to navigate through the menus. What do I need to do to place "Add File" as a link on the menu. If someone can point me in the right direction or to an example that would be great. Thanks in advance.
