Re: [Zope] Could I build this application with zope?
by Michael Havard 27 Nov '03

In short: Yes, I believe so. Some of the requirements sound like a matter of using DCWorkflow and creating your own custom Product (which is fairly easy as there's a good tutorial on ZOPE). Set up your permissions properly, customize some of the templates, use topics to organize and associate some of the information together (or some other "folderish" type object). There's information I think on ZOPElabs.com about notifying users via e-mail on content state change. Use the parsedXML product to produce your XML output. Enable discussions or use CMFBoard or maybe even a Wiki for collaboration on tasks. Create a template for gathering reporting criteria and a template for displaying that criteria and a python script for creating an object out of the report so that it can be reused. Use the right format and Excel will be able to read it, or I believe theres a product for producing excel or CSV content for excel to read. I think the two main things you'll need to focus on are setting up good workflows using the DCWorkflow product and setting up your permissions properly for those workflows. >From: "John Hobson" <jhobson(a)ufi.com> >To: <zope(a)zope.org> >Subject: [Zope] Could I build this application with zope? >Date: Thu, 27 Nov 2003 14:25:39 -0000 >MIME-Version: 1.0 >Received: from mc7-f3.hotmail.com ([65.54.253.10]) by mc7-s12.hotmail.com >with Microsoft SMTPSVC(5.0.2195.6713); Thu, 27 Nov 2003 06:28:16 -0800 >Received: from mail.python.org ([12.155.117.29]) by mc7-f3.hotmail.com with >Microsoft SMTPSVC(5.0.2195.6713); Thu, 27 Nov 2003 06:28:16 -0800 >Received: from localhost.localdomain ([127.0.0.1] helo=mail.python.org)by >mail.python.org with esmtp (Exim 4.22)id 1APN7d-0000mQ-BQ; Thu, 27 Nov 2003 >09:27:57 -0500 >Received: from mail.ufi.com ([195.44.196.234] helo=ufi-exch1.hq.ufi.com)by >mail.python.org with esmtp (Exim 4.22) id 1APN7Y-0000mL-Plfor >zope(a)zope.org; Thu, 27 Nov 2003 09:27:53 -0500 >X-Message-Info: 820stLNiepS8ESBcm1ptu2eL3r4316CH+kN+hTQ+1Uc= >X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft Exchange V6.0.6375.0 >content-class: urn:content-classes:message >Message-ID: <0614424E582B9843BC3CF2B909921CC601E05F87(a)ufi-exch1.hq.ufi.com> >X-MS-Has-Attach: X-MS-TNEF-Correlator: Thread-Topic: Could I build this >application with zope? >Thread-Index: AcO08lULUQZl7HwTRMijCYxTLfYVzg== >X-Spam-Status: OK (zopelist 0.000) >X-BeenThere: zope(a)zope.org >X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.3 >Precedence: list >List-Id: Users of the Z Object Publishing Environment <zope.zope.org> >List-Unsubscribe: ><http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope>,<mailto:zope-request@zope.org?subject=unsubscribe> >List-Archive: <http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope> >List-Post: <mailto:zope@zope.org> >List-Help: <mailto:zope-request@zope.org?subject=help> >List-Subscribe: ><http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope>,<mailto:zope-request@zope.org?subject=subscribe> >Sender: zope-bounces(a)zope.org >Errors-To: zope-bounces(a)zope.org >Return-Path: zope-bounces(a)zope.org >X-OriginalArrivalTime: 27 Nov 2003 14:28:16.0241 (UTC) >FILETIME=[B2444610:01C3B4F2] > >Thanks to those who gave useful replies to my earlier post. But this is only on Zope. IE seems to download tar.gz files correctly on Apache. -----Original Message----- From: Louis MacCubbin Sent: Tuesday, November 25, 2003 12:32 PM To: 'Stefan H. But I would like to know the Max Storage .Prior to using more than likely a adapter EITHER ZPopyDA or ZPsycoPG and Postgresql DB. albiet Im only toying with Gladfly at the moment . ZSQMethods shipped with a Product
by Gilles Lenfant 26 Nov '03

26 Nov '03

Hi, Is there a way to do FS based ZSQL methods in a Product ? Actually, my product (under development) uses direct MySQLdb.connections created/deleted for each method. This works but... 1/ It's not easy to be DBMS engine independant that way. 2/ Creating new DB connector for each Web transaction slows down the stuff. Thanks in advance -- Gilles

some Zope issues: dtml-zpt, permissions, scalability
by Andre Meyer 26 Nov '03

26 Nov '03

Dear Zopers During the last few weeks I have been working through the documentation of Zope for building my own products. One valuable source was the Zope Bible. With help from this list and the authors of the book I decided to go for a file system based product using ZPT. Unfortunately, the example in the book is using DTML like most others still do. When trying to convert from DTML to ZPT I found the following problem: It is easy to change dtml-in to tal:repeat and the like. But how to convert from dtml-call to tal? Look at the folowing snippet: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <dtml-unless SelectedGroup> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('SelectedGroup', 'All')"> </dtml-unless> <dtml-unless start> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('start', 1)"> </dtml-unless> <dtml-unless sort_by> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('sort_by', 'LastName,FirstName,MiddleInitial')"> </dtml-unless> -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Another problem occurs with permissions. The following snippet works in dtml, but when converted to zpt (accessing here/listEntriesByGroup) the same method cannot be accessed any longer. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <dtml-in "listEntriesByGroup(_['SelectedGroup'])" size=20 start=start sort_expr="sort_by"> <tr <dtml-if sequence-even>bgcolor="#CCCCCC"</dtml-if>> <td><input type=checkbox name="EntryIDs:list" value="&dtml-id;"></td> <td><a href="&dtml-id;"><dtml-var title></td> <td><dtml-var Title> </td> <td><dtml-var Company> </td> <td><a href="<dtml-var id>/editEntryForm">Edit</a></td> </tr> </dtml-in> -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yet another issue is related to scalability when I have an object that references a list of other objects using a dictionary. How does this perform when the dictionary contains 10.000 or 50.000 entries? Is that feasible or are there better solutions? thanks a lot for your help Andre

DTML conversion to TAL
by Kevin Rosso 26 Nov '03

26 Nov '03

I am new to ZPTs, but recently have becomed involved with them. I am familiar with DTML and want to make similar functionality using "TAL". In the past , my group has made use of the <dtml-var> method to call strings from a folder to be used in image links, hyperlinks, etc. The main reason we use this <dtml-var> is because we have sites running in a development environment that are then moved to production. To make this move seamless, we create variables in the "properties" tab at the site root. For example, the variable string we create in the "properties" tab in the ZMI may have a value of: /devsiteFolder/images/ and be called, "imageDir". This variable is then used to call an image throughout the site using <img src="/<dtml-var imageDir>/imageName.gif"> When the site is moved to production, we change the string /devsiteFolder/images/ to /productionsiteFolder/images. Very simple, yet I cannot find good documentation on how to convert this to TAL if I wanted to use this inside a Page Template...Please Help I have read and re-read the current documentation and articles relating to "DTMLers learning TAL" and I must say the syntax is what has me most confused. A simple chart with sample TALES and its common functions would be a great help. Thank you, Ryan --

<rant> Is everyone else getting an autoreply from DLANCE(a)kc.rr.com every time they post to the zope list? He/she is using some anti-spam service called "vetomail". Does anyone find this as obnoxious as I do? Has anyone succeeded in contacting dlance to request it turned off?
