inelegant repetition of ZPT code
by Andre Meyer 25 Nov '03

25 Nov '03

Hi Zopers Another detail that bugs me: how can I translate the following dtml code to zpt. It colours table rows in grey/white alternatively. Is the zpt version below the only way? It is clearly very inelegant to repeat code. DTML ... <table> <dtml-in listItems> <tr <dtml-if sequence-even>bgcolor="lightgray"</dtml-if>> <td>...</td> </tr> </dtml-in> </table> ZPT ... <table> <span tal:repeat="item here/listItems"> <tr bgcolor="white" tal:condition="repeat/item/even"> <td>...</td> </tr> <tr bgcolor="lightgray" tal:condition="repeat/item/odd"> <td>...</td> </tr> </span> </table> thanks and best wishes Andre

RE: [Zope] tar.gz changing to tar.tar during download.

The problem looks to be IE. I tried it with Mozilla and it work correctly. It looks like "application/x-tar". Thanks -----Original Message----- From: Stefan H. Question regarding acquisition behaviour.
by Alec Munro 25 Nov '03

25 Nov '03

Hi List, It is my understanding that while acquisition will traverse up the directory tree, it will only do so until it finds a match, and then it will restart from that directory. So if I'm in script 'someScript' looking for 'container.HTML.pageX' and my hierarchy looks something like this: someSite -HTML --pageX -subSite1 --about ---HTML ----pageA ----pageX --contact ---HTML ----pageA if someScript is in 'someSite/subSite1/about' then I will get the result: 'someSite/subSite1/about/HTML/pageX' But if someScript is in 'someSite/subSite1/contact' I won't get anything. It will find the HTML folder, and give up when there's no 'pageX'. What I would like is the result: '/someSite/HTML/pageX' Is there a way around this, to force acquisition to continue traversing up the directory if it hits a dead end? Or some alternative? Or is this behaviour necessary? Thanks, Alec Munro

ObjectManager example needed
by Andre Meyer 25 Nov '03

25 Nov '03

Dear Zopers In continuing my search for help it seems like ObjectManager is what I am looking for in order to have a large collection of different Python objects in the same folder allowing for many links among them. I will need to be able to select which kinds of items to show and sort them and use them in forms. That should be standard behaviour, though, I would expect. Do you happen to have experience with ObjectManager and/or have a good example that I can study? The application I am developing is for a musician who currently has an Excel sheet with more than 20.000 pieces of old music (1600-1900) where each PieceOfMusic object refers to other objects like Composer, OrchestralSetting, Instrument, Cast, Recording, Writer, etc. Those need to become different kinds of Python objects that the PieceOfMusic object can refer to in order to guarantee consistency. I have designed an object model with all the classes, their attributes and relations in a UML diagram, but now I need to convert the Excel sheet into Python objects in Zope and make them accessible through ZPT pages and Python methods based on this UML model. I assume that I need a class MusicLibrary that is a direct subclass of ObjectManager and a variety of classes that represent my application classes and are all subclasses of ObjectManagerItem. Do you agree with this? In the help about ObjectManager and ObjectManagerItem I miss a method like manage_addObject. There are only manage_self, manage_addProduct and manage_addFolder. But which method does the trick of adding Python objects to my product's folder? Any help is appreciated best wishes Andre Meyer

Importing from module, security
by Rainer Thaden 25 Nov '03

25 Nov '03

Hi all, i have a problem with the import of methods and classes from a self written module. Some details: I have a python class dealing with audiosignals. It loads a file from the filesystem performs operations on it and stores them in the filesystem. I want to use the classes in Zope (Plone) so i tried to pack them in a module and let the security machine know that it is allowed to import the class and the contained methods. To make it short: i didn't make it. Eiter i get an unauthorized error on the module, on the class or on the method inside the class. I noticed the collector issue http://collector.zope.org/Zope/685, but still don't know what to do. What would you do? Pack everything in a Zope product? I don't need to add instances to the ZODB, i just need the class and methods to work on audiosignals and store the in the file system. -- Regards, Rainer -- NEU FR ALLE - GMX MediaCenter - fr Fotos, Musik, Dateien... Zope loose changed data after restarting
by Miguel Lara Alday 25 Nov '03

25 Nov '03

Hi! This is the second time we have lost changed data after restarting our web server. The data has been changed normaly from our website and also from Zope Manager Interface (add/modify/delete scripts, methods, etc). After we restart the server (it hangs) the history show us changed made >2 hours before. Even in the Zope logs there is no register about the changes. The changes just disappear. Why? We use: Zope 2.6.0, python 2.1.3 and CMF 1.4 Miguel

Zope will not start
by Wei-Yen Tan 25 Nov '03

25 Nov '03

Hello, Please excuse the wordiness of this post. I have recently truied to install Zope 2.6.2 on Debian using apt. I updated all the prerequisites such as python libc6 etc so that it could be used with Zope. Zope installed fine. However when I run Zope, the command line seemed to indicate that it was ok loading, but there was no web site uising the ports... To cut the long story short, I went into debug mode and to my horror I found this below... It sseems to be a mismatch with python......which I am really baffled. I am just starting to experiment with this, and just would like to know what was up with it. Any help appreciated. Hi, How could I append the contents of one zope file to another using Python? What python command should I use to open these files? They cannot seem to be opened by the normal 'open' command. RE: [Zope] Naming conventions
by Wilson, Derek 25 Nov '03

25 Nov '03

I don't have a convention as none is needed. You can easily distinguish the file types thru their "meta_type" and so you don't need any filename prefix to tell the difference. It's all really irrelevant what type of file it is. What's most important is the content. Much onfusion concerning pcgi-wrapper
by Chris Burbridge 25 Nov '03

25 Nov '03

I am trying to install Zope on a web host account (no root access) that runs FreeBSD 4.5. It seems like I should be able to get it to work through pcgi-wrapper. I have gone through every bit of text I could find about pcgi-wrapper, and its relation to Zope.cgi, but still no luck. If I run pcgi-wrapper by itself, it outputs the "temporarly unavailable" HTML. In other words, it works by itself. I found out about using pcgifile.py, to verify that at least the basics were set up properly so that things _should_ work. It gives me a positive result I call: http://<siteName>.net/~<username>/cgi-bin/pcgifile.py?infofile=Zope.cgi. I have included the resulting output at the bottom of this email, but suffice to say, it seems to think things are okay. For the sake of trying to get this all to work, I chmod'ed access rights for /home/<userName>/cgi-bin/Zope (and all files and directories underneath that) to 777. The only thing I did differently in Zope.cgi was to change the PCGI_MODULE_PATH setting to point to Main.py, instead of just pointing to a directory. (Some documentation I found on the web pointed me to this, and when I did it the other way, I got an error, as it seemed to be expecting a file, not a directory.) I try running it from the command line: ./Zope.cgi or also just ./pcgi-wrapper Zope.cgi In either case, it just waits for a while, and then returns with no output. The pcgi.log file reports no problem. If I try calling http://<siteName>/cgi-bin/Zope.cgi, I get the "Temporarily Unavailable" message -- but again, nothing written to pcgi.log. I make sure I am runnning Python version 2.1.3. Other CGI files (I use Perl CGI a lot) work fine with the current Apache configuration. I would so appreciate any suggestions on this, because I am really hoping to start learning and using Zope. Maybe I just don't have rights on my account to be able to initiate a persistent process?
