Is it possible to get results like with mod_rewrite/mod_proxy when I don't have access to the config files, and have to override stuff in .htaccess? In the mod_proxy docs it seems like this is not possible... - BoboPos probem

I have an application mainly programmed within an external method. This method is called with the 'self' parameter, so has access to the folder it is defined in. I decided to attach custom data from within the external method to the self object. This data was a list containing lists containing integers. Everything worked well, but finally I discovered that 'cleaning up' Zope's database failed with an error. Trying to restart Zope failed miserably (traceback is attached). MS Access and other db applications generally install ODBC support as a part of their installation procedure, but if you haven't installed any database on your system, it's possible that the core Windows ODBC support isn't installed on your system. In the windows Control Panel there should be an "ODBC" icon if you have ODBC support installed - do you have this on your system? If so, does the windows ODBC manager or the Event Log show any kind of errors occurring with ODBC? - can't __call__ objects?

I'm experimenting with ZPublisher directly, since I think it will fit my needs better than full-blown Zope. If I have a class with a __call__ method, ZPublisher won't let me call the instance. I realize __call__ violates the "no underscore" publishing rule, but if an object is an instance and is otherwise publishable, shouldn't __call__ be called (no pun)? That was wrong -- you don't need any external modules to use the ODBC DA. We've fixed the documentation on this. How did Zope fail to start? What errors did it give? Hi, I just installed the ODBC package for Win32. Unzipped in the c:\zope directory, let the package put things in the appropriate folders. Reading the README (after zope subsequently fails to start) tells me I need sql.dll, perhaps available from the Python.org site. Today I am probably responsible for half the hits to their site looking for any sql stuff that includes sql.dll. Does anyone know where I can find it? This mechanism is similar to (but not exactly like) pcgi. It runs your Zope process as a win32 service, and provides a lightweight cgi exe which knows how to communicate requests to the Zope service (the moral equivalent of pcgi-wrapper). You should be able to install b3 on an NT machine and choose the "Install as an NT service and run with my existing web server" option. This will install the Zope instance as a service, and prompt you for a CGI directory into which it will place the cgi exe. Pick a directory set up for cgi with IIS when prompted. Note that you probably have to tweak your IIS configuration to get IIS to pass authentication headers to Zope. You need to make sure that BOTH "Windows NT Challenge/Response" AND "Basic Authentication" are DESELECTED for the cgi directory where you placed the cgi exe. Otherwise, IIS will intervene on every request and try to do the authentication itself (which will fail, of course). We hope to roll pcgi support into the win32 Zope release soon. The only time you'll notice any difference is the very first request to the Zope process. ZopeHTTPServer will respond immediately because it runs in the Zope process - pcgi will take a few seconds to respond to the very first request because it is external to the Zope process and doesnt crank up the Zope process until the first request for it is actually received.
