- NT and IIS problem (argv)

Hi, The following problem has already been asked on this list, but I could'nt find a solution (I looked through the archive - no luck). [I searched the mailing list using argv as the search pattern.] Anyway here is the error I get when I browse to http://localhost/scripts/samples/zope1.exe/manage <body> Sorry, an error occurred.<p>  </body> BTW, I get the same error if I leave out the manage at the end of the URL. Help would be appreciated, Thanks, Vincent

Amos, Thanks for your encouraging response. I think I should provide a little more detail. What I am specifically trying to do is look up a value from a DB table for every record returned from another DB table. For example, if I had a database of Overtime hours worked for company employees, for each record in the "OThours" table, I would look up "fullname" and "phonenumber" based on "employeenumber" out of the "Employees" table. So, what I have done (and, I'm sure it's somehow flawed) is create a SQL Method that returns multiple rows from the "OThours" table, and using the  Hours work:  Emp. Name: )"-->  Mood:   If I replace the offending line with: Emp. Name:  ....I can make it work. I'm sure I'm doing this backward or something. I've read all of the documentation I can find at this point. I'm sure this is a simple problem of me just going about it the wrong way. Sorry for the long and confusing email. Here's the idea: SQL Methods are database independent. You point them at an object that is connected to a database -- a Database Connetion. For ODBC, double click on the ZODBCDA tar.gz file and tell WinZip to extract it into your Zope directory. It will create some directories under lib/python/Products. When you shut down and restart your Zope site (via the Control Panel), voila, you can add a Database Connection object to a Folder. All you have to do then is select something you have defined in the Windows Control Panel's ODBC setup as an ODBC source. - ODBC and zope on NT

hi, On Zope(NT service)/IIS/NT I cannot find a place to add a Zope SQL Database Connection (when I try to add a Zope SQL Method it asks me for a SQL connection). I read the Aqueduct users guide, and it stated that I should find a "Add Aqueduct xxxx(=ODBC) Connection" under Add. This is not there. Will this only appear if I install the ZODBCDA? The ZODBCDA file is a tar.gz file - is this for Unix only? I usually work in Unix and this is not usually a problem - however I am on NT for a short time, and am not sure/familiar with tar or gz for NT. And I am trying out zope on NT/IIS. If the ZODBCA file is for NT as well, could you please point me to some utilities, or provide a .zip or .exe. [The zope executable that I use is a fix (post 1.9 final) given to me by Brian - I am not sure if this may be the reason for above. the fix solved the IIS QUERY_STRING problem] Help would be appreciated. (Yet Another Stupid Question)... I've got 1.9 running fine and have been able to get some dynamic happening using mysql. The one major snag I've run into is this: Say you have an external method, or a SQL Method that accepts a parameter. You want that parameter to be dynamic (possibly based on a field from a DB). How can you pass a dynamic parameter to a method from within DTML? i.e.: )"--> I know I'm not wording this in the best way possible. Please excuse me. I've been fiddling with it for about an hour now, and I can't make any headway. Thanks in advance, Chad Fowler

This should only happen in cases where you are using IIS and the *NT Service* version of Zope. The NT Service version had no sys.argv, which cgi.py checks for if no QUERY_STRING is found in the environment. IIS apparently doesn't even set QUERY_STRING if there isn't one, so cgi.py tries to look at sys.argv which doesn't exist and... I've added a fix that will be in the next revision. In the meantime, I've attached a copy of the updated service binary (named pss.exe). To fix the problem: o stop the zope1 service on your machine o delete the zope1.exe in your Zope installation's "/bin" directory (do NOT delete the one in your cgi directory!). o copy the attached "pss.exe" file to your "/bin" directory and rename it to "zope1.exe". o start up the service Brian Lloyd brian(a)digicool.com Software Engineer 540.371.6909 Digital Creations http://www.digicool.com

It would please me if Zope was able to treat the hostname portion of a URL as another object to be traversed (with a default if no objects seem to match the hostname). Did that make sense? Basically, I want to publish multiple different web sites with different domain names but with a single ZHTTPServer and a single point of administration. Is this something that's already been planned, or should I try my hand at it?
