I developed an intranet application using Zope that allows member users to "publish" any sort of document to their "department" by uploading it via HTTP. So if your users are comfortable using Word, they can "publish" Word documents to their area, likewise they can publish HTML, etc. They use what they're comfortable with while producing content, and Zope is only the container.. There's also news, and a search function. The app is half-good, half-horrible because it was my first genuine effort at producing anything whatsoever with Zope, so it doesnt make good use of Z Classes in per-department functions. I had hoped to revise it, but other things came up. Please email me if you'd like to see it (I have to find out if there's anything supersensitive on the site now, otherwise I'll give you a username and password). We tested various things (access rules) but in the best case we end up with nested <html> tags. Unfortunately, we have no python experts here and we´re not learning fast enough to present a solution within time. Some background info: we have to ensure that virtually erveryone here has a simple way to put information on the net. Most of these people have little or no HTML knowledge but use Composer, HotMetal or even word to create their documents. So it seems unacceptable to our bosses to bother anyone with manipulating sources. We would really like to use Zope because of its great management features, user management and expandibility (and its price ;-), so any hints would be highly appreciated. A few months back there was some traffic on the list about doing wikiwiki <http://c2.com/cgi/wiki > in Zope. It seemed that most people were waiting for ZClasses, ZCatalog and Zope2 to become stable before getting on with it... I need to follow up on my plan to maintain a Zope development plan on Zope.org so that folks in the community can easily see what is and isn't on our radar at any given time. Many of us are pretty heavily loaded with consulting work at the moment, so I haven't been able to get this going as quickly as I'd hoped. Zope is not so dope?

I get this error when I try to edit a ZSQL method on Zope 1.x (in fact, I get it on all methods in one folder, and one alone). It came after I 'double-clicked' on the Add and Edit button on a new ZSQL method. Calling zLOG.LOG from DTML?

I'm working some ZClass constructors, and hoped to generate LOG messages at various points to help me debug various namespace issues. I was hopeing the following syntax would work: <dtml-call "_.zLOG.LOG('ZODB',100,'This is it!')"> No dice though - I guess the zLOG module isn't imported in the necessary spots. Hmmm. I see. So you're looking to create a role per-instance that has *only* that rights to that permission and execute the method by proxying as that role. Taking a look at the source generated by the "Define Permissions" tab of the Zope management interface and other places: - There exists a method called "manage_defined_roles" which I assume to be present for all objects. You can add this to your *Class_add method in the zclass that creates the instance. It looks like you call it like this (within the method you're trying to add a role to -- untested --): <dtml-call "manage_defined_roles?role=rolename"> - There exists another method called "manage_role" which adds permissions to your role and accepts arguments something like this (again, untested): <dtml-call "manage_role?role_to_manage=rolename&permissions:list=permissionname> - And finally, there exists a method, "manage_proxy" that will allow you to assign a proxy role to a method, it looks like you call it something like this: <dtml-call "manage_proxy?roles:list=role"> Since you know that at least three roles exist from the root of any default Zope 2.x installation (anonymous, manager, owner), however, personally, I might try not to create a new role for that method, unless you're very, very concerned about security and you'd like to limit the role to that action only. I'd probably just give the permission to the manager role and proxy as manager. You're probably smarter, I'm just lazy :). Because the proxy method needs only _one_ permission, and I would set that permission in the role, and not hassle the administrator with the need to create it. All administrators who use the product will have to do the exact same thing - create a role with one permission, which is a pretty good definition of when software should do something for you. I have an object that users are allowed to create, but not modify afterward. But the usual method of creating objects in Zope is to create them and then modify their properties. Hi, It is probably really easy, but how do I restrict access to surfers...like the .htaccess does in apache? I cannot find any documentation on this. terry
