Access control - which permissions?

Hi, Which default permissions must I remove for someone to be forced to login to the website. ZCatalog programatically? Or ZClass with ZCatalog base?

Greetings. I'm creating product using ZClasses, which is basically a container full of various sub objects. I want to use a ZCatalog to index these various objects. In my main container class' constructor, I seem to be unable to create a ZCatalog instance (manage_addZCatalog gives a name error, and it doesn't appear in the method lists in my patched online help). Is it possible to create a ZCatalog object from a ZClass constructor? The alternative might be a better option to go with anyway - use ZCatalog as the base class for my container ZClass. However, ZCatalog already appears to be a folderish object and I don't know if using it in this fashion will break anything (or break in a future version). I'm also unsure if doing this will screw up folder aware objects in future revisions of Zope (I have my private ZCatalog for indexing, but there shouldn't be anything stopping webmasters indexing my objects with their central ZCatalog). passing HTTP basic auth info

I've established a user folder on my Zope installation which mirrors the usernames and associated passwords of an NT domain (using smbUserFolder). When a user wishes to enter the Zope site, they enter their NT username and password. In-house we also have an Exchange server that has Outlook Web Access installed on it. Currently, I have a link set up on one of our Zope pages that dumps the user off into a logon screen for OWA... the user must then enter his username and password (the same username and password -- again -- it's against the same NT domain) in order to retrieve his mail. I know it's probably possible to use the RESPONSE function within Zope to insert the username into the HTTP header when he clicks on the link that takes him to OWA. But I don't see any documentation regarding the user's password. I know that its generally considered a security misfeature to cache cleartext passwords in memory or on disk, but since the password is just base64'ed when it gets to Zope, Zope should already know it (assuming it keeps it around somewhere). And this would mean that I could pass the password to OWA using a RESPONSE as well. And since I could do this, it would mean that I could save the user from having to enter his or her password again when they click on a link to another HTTP-basic-auth protected site which authenticates against the same user store, but which is not in the same "Realm". A nicety that users have come to expect. Most CGI implementations won't let you do this. MS Active Server Pages, however, allow you free use of the authenticated user's password. I'm wondering if Zope has such a (mis?)feature. Alternately, if anyone has any experience or ideas about how to do such a thing, please let me know. Thanks! Chris

HELP: problem installing Zope 2.01 on RH6 alpha

Hello, I have problems installing Zope2 on Red-Hat 6.0 Alpha: -red-hat come with python1.5.10, so I have compiled python 1.5.2 --with-thread, it's looking ok. -during the Zope installation: python w_pcgi, the script try to copy a Makefile.pre.in file from the /usr/lib/python1.5/config directory. The problem is that there is no config directory in my python installation(it's the same pb as for Sven Kirmess, 23/aug/1999). I have installed python 1.5.2 normaly, so what is wrong?? ( I took python source from www.python.org site ) NB:I have 2 Makefile.pre.in in my python source directorys: 1 in ./Misc and 1 in ./Modules . I try to copy both in the /usr/lib/python1.5/config dir . But the zope bukding script still fail. Thanks for any help. Gilles Lavaux Esa-Esrin

Great work. I wish you could fix the HTML documentation packaging, though. I remember a while back when you could still get the DTML Guide as a single, flat HTML file (plus the images). The formatting stunk then, but at least you could easily browse the documentation. The formatting of the DTML and SQL guides remains pretty ghastly. In future releases, please include the option of viewing/downloading a single, flat HTML file, preferably with numbered sections (eg., "6.1. Iterative Insertion"). The table of contents produced by Frame Maker is so bad I'm surprised you haven't fixed it by hand. For example, in the case of the ZAG it starts of confidently, until "ZServer Command Line Switches", where it falls apart, adding paragraphs between each entry and forgetting to add a bullet. And when it's doen with all that, it says "Figure 1. CGI Overview" in huge letters and then starts off on a new table contents, nicely ordered but with the exact same contents. zope img bug?

using Zope-2.0.1-win32-x86.exe on win98 when i add an image to zope (add new item/image) it shows me the binary image data as img id. from there it isn't possible to kill the img with DEL i'll have to undo the add image. what sort of bug is this? thanks samim

Use of last_modified

I want to state at the bottom of all pages when the page was last modified. So, I put this line in my standard_html_footer in the root folder: <P>Last modified: <dtml-var last_modified> This results in a Zope Error: Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. KeyError Sorry, a Zope error occurred. What did I do wrong? Better yet, how does one go about debugging such things? Sorry to ask silly questions, but you've got to start somewhere.
