My python product code is structured somewhat like this: class A: __init__ (self, connection_id) self.B = B(connection_id) self.C = C(connection_id) self.sqlquery = SQL(... class B: __init__ (self, connection_id) self.connection_id = connection_id self.sqlquery=SQL(... class C: __init__ (self, connection_id) self.connection_id = connection_id self.sqlquery=SQL(... def manage_addA(self, id, connection_id): ob = A(connection_id) self._setObject(id, ob) This works: Zope/instanceA/sqlquery now trying to do this from Zope, Zope/instanceA/B/sqlquery yields an error message that connection_id chosen is not available. What am I missing? Any workarounds?

Python Imaging Library import problems

Hi, I'm a new Zoper. I've spent most of my day evangelizing at Phil Greenspun's Database Backed Web Sites course and the rest of the day trying to get the Python Imaging Library working as an external method. Has anyone been able to do this? I'd like to be able to have an external method that can create thumbnail images for Zope Image objects by using their data attribute. It would be real handy for a site I'm designing now. My first problem was that whenever I tried referencing PIL's Image module from an external method, I would get the Zope image class instead. After clearing that up, I got error messages about PIL being unable to decode file types, even though the exact same code works fine when run from the command line. Eventually, I reduced my test external method so all it does is import PIL and load an image file from the file system (yes, I used binary mode). PIL still complains about not being able to decode the file. I suspect that the problem may be that PIL imports submodules on startup and caches them, but I'm too exhausted to pursue this any further. If anyone has gotten PIL to work with Zope, please let me know. Traceback on startup

Hello, I'm developing a Zope base application for about 4 weeks now... I wanted to restart the server to load a new .py file from the Products directory, it gives me the following traceback... A sample site running KMNN is the site that I wrote it for: http://www.byproducts.com A site that is running a modified KMNN is: http://www.mountainwest.org I really should release the code running there, because it is a slightly bug-corrected version of the one that is on the Zope site now. So far, most people have been using KMNN less as a news product and more as an example of how to get some things done with ZClasses. Because it is implemented in ZClasses, it is quite easy to modify. (That is, once you grok ZClasses.) One MAJOR thing that Squishdot does that KMNN does not is provide a mechanism for discussion of the news topics. If it is important to have a slashdot sort of thing going, you should probably stick with Squishdot. I have considered adding hooks to Confera topics to KMNN, but this has been a low priority compared to other things on my plate. Let me know if you have any other questions... Kevin

I always have some problems with the dtml syntax. Maybe it's not a very useful Method, but I try to understand. Many times, writing very basic script I came across with this kind of problem. I dont understand and feel really stupid. I read comments about the learning curve. Some said that it's better to know python. I know python, I never feel stupid with python. I usually understand when I make a mistake. A more complete reference documentation and step by step tutorial would be nice. As I understand it, DC primary targets are massive Web Sites. On the other side there are developpers that work on the source or can afford spending a lot of time reading it. Maybe there are also programmers or small and middle sized businesses that would like to use Zope to build their Web application but need a good documentation. I am one them, and surely I would pay for a good documentation. Has DC or anyone else, planned to ship this kind of service: A CLEAR DOCUMENTATION. I've just been playing with w3m[1] and I can say it's pretty damn nice for working with Zope. It's a text-based browser, like Lynx, with the following features: _very_ nice mouse support handles frames and tables for editing textareas, it spawns an external editor (yes! no more editing in crappy textareas for me....) It works really very nicely when pointed at the /manage_main area of your Zope site. Have you managed to use it with a port number in the url? It forgets about the port number for relative links. Authorization failure

Hi! I'm stuck with a problem here and hope someone can help me out ... I try to make a folder & file tree view using the code: DTML-method - show_tree <dtml-tree branches_expr="objectValues(['Folder, 'File'])" sort=meta_type> <dtml-var title_or_id> </dtml-tree> Accessing the show_tree method as manager displays all correctly, but when I try to access the method as another user I get 'authorization failed'. I find this strange since the user has aquired the permissions : 'access contents information' and 'view' to the methods parent folder, the same permission setting is set for the folders and files therein. I can trick it so that the user is proxyed as manager on the method, but thats not what I want - I will block access to all but the authenticated users private files and folders in the future. Please tell me whats I do wrong and how I can fix this. Thanks in advance Sture Lygren
