Zope 2.x is hardwired to have only 7 available database connections. We'll probably add a knob in 2.2 that lets you configure the number of db connections. In either case, the problem is not the hardwiring, the problem is that your code has a bug in it, because you do not free the resource you are consuming. Do an: x.close() at the end of your method and you won't run out of connections. -Michel

The ethically proper, morally imperative, politically correct and spiritual fullfilling way to do this would be with the ZODB. Technically ... the answer is whatever works best for you. Personally I like the ZODB but a large part of that is that I'm learning Python through Zope and not the other way around. I'm far from being a Python Zen Master.

You must run ZServer to get multiple threads. You can still use Apache and PCGI, ZServer understands PCGI requests. Run z2.py -h and look at the -p option. -Michel

dtml-try question (quickie)

Didn't I see some comments somewhere that the dtml-try tag now includes something like a dtml-else tag, so that we can have code that executes only if an exception is NOT thrown. Does someone know the syntax for this if it exists? --sam

so we want to serve up a differnet element depending on the user's platform. has anyone tried this in zope? is a simple javascript the answer or is there a zope method to accomplish this? thanks, kyle http://www.newtimes.com

Using ZODB vs files

I've written a tiny external method which walks my IE bookmarks folder and returns a list of bookmarks. To implement caching I'm currently storing this list in a file 'bookmarks.pickle'. Works just fine. Would it technically and/or morally be better to use the ZODB instead? How much effort would the switch need (it'll be my first use of the ZODB) ? Thanks, ~Shalabh

Hi. In your public cvs repository, are you using branches for each release, tags, or anything? Is it only possible to checkout the latest developer version, or do you create a branch for say 2.2.1 and then add all bugfixes to it until the next public release? /Magnus Heino

Hi, I'm reposting my message of 3/12 because I haven't received any answers yet and it's quite a big problem for us. I have external methods that can lag the system for a cpl of minutes, so then I need other threads to keep serving the other users any hints are appreciated.
