Custom Tag Creation <dtml-nocache>

I'm looking into modifying ZCache Product by adding a <dtml-nocache> tag that would exclude some elements of a domument from being parsed/resolved/published (whichever is correct terminology), for pages that are bing cached. The latest version ov ZCache marshals to the FS and them unmarshals the content back. I'm tying to marshal these documents in a partially completed state and them when unmarshaling them complete the nocached elements and return a completed document. My first attempt at a tag to accomplish this was to cPickle the "blocks" given to the tag's __init__ method, then to uncPickle them when the tag was called again from the ZCache Product. This works. The problem I have is in rerendering the previously pickled portion of the document. Inside ZCache I'm calling DocumentTemplate.HTML to rerender the previously pickled content retrieved from the FS as a string. This string retrieved in ZCache is self._v_cache. Here is a snip of code (out of ZCache) I'm using to rerender the object: def index_html(self, REQUEST, RESPONSE) ... newObj = HTML(self._v_cache,mapping=globals()) newObj = newObj(REQUEST) ... RESPONSE.write(newObj) My problem is the content between the <dtml-nocache> </dtml-nocache> tags can not reference any of the standard Zope objects / properties (like ZopeTime, id, etc). I'm guessing I need something other than REQUEST and/or globals() to get the proper Zope environment passed over to the HTML object. A secondary problem I believe I'm seeing is the inablility to cPickle DTML expressions. I was originally hopping the get the actual un processed DTML between my nocache tags but it appears the tag calls are handed a partially processed list of some sort. Does anyone know of a way to get the contents between tags rather than the list of sections/blocks??? This would remove my need to pickle the list and I would be able to just process the previously unprocessed portion of DTML. RECAP ========================= 1. Is there any way obtain a tags raw content? 2. What is the prefered way of reprocessing Zope DTML content? -render_blocks(section,md) or some other method. 3. Multiple Zope servers?

ZEO sounds fabulous, but it may take a bit of time to convince the Deci$ion Maker$ that this "free" system is now worth the inve$tment to make it reliable too. The concept of raising performance with multiple "read only" ZODB servers, all linked to a common backend RDB can be meshed with other ideas that have passed through the Zope lists. One is to use conditional links pointing to semi-static documents in a file system, such as daily business reports, or user defined ad hoc queries. If an URL maps to an existing file, it is served directly. On the other hand, a "file not found" branches to Zope, which returns the update to the requestor, where it will be "cached" as a static file. Yet another approach is to have hard links from within Zope "pages" pointing out to a file based storage. For example, an image repository can sometimes (always?) provide faster response than Zope file objects. A graphics repository, for example, could reside on a common backend optimized for serving shared files. I can't recall any other hybrid strategies just now, but I'm sure others can point the way. Let us know how your experiment pans out, we all need as many good ideas as we can get our hands on!

Help! How do I get my namespace in Python??

I have a Python method in a product, which in turn calls a DTML Method. def test(self, REQUEST=None): return self.myDTMLMethod(REQUEST) But the DTML Method doesn't have access to the namespace! I see I can pass in a mapping to the DTML Method, but how do I get the namespace in Python? Thanks! Andrew

Hmm, what is wrong? I have a 600 MHz Alpha and yet across the Ethernet I can detect slower initial response time for nabbing stuff from inside my Zope site, and can see a momentary CPU spike of the kind that I never see when running solely apache. If you don't call it, the persistent machinery would probably be very unhappy, and since it's written in C, might core dump... just an idea. -Michel

This is odd. Not sure if this is a GUF thing or what. The normal Zope acl_folder allows this. I don't really know enough about Zope to comment. Perhaps someone has some ideas on the list. I did manage to get the SQL thing to work, but there seems to be something different with 2.1.1. I'm not sure what yet but I'll keep digging. Hourly restarts of Zope

I've noticed an odd Zope behavior while experimenting with the __setstate__() method. Zope is being restarted every hour (5:05 past the hour, to within a several seconds). I've scoured my machine for any cron job that might be causing this but haven't found any. Is this a known Zope behavior? hidden list

Once again, mind block: I would like to pass through a list called roles (built from a previous screen list box). I tried this: <input type='hidden' name='roles:list' value=''> but the result is: ['['] It should be: ['resale', 'salesRep'] I verified that the variable "roles" actually contains ['resale', 'salesRep'] by displaying: <dtml-var roles> Any thoughts as to what I'm missing?????
