Simplest example of INSERT

I'm a total Zope newcomer, and I'm attempting to create a test thing where I can enter data into a form and have that data inserted into a table in a gadfly database. I've read the ZDTML guide, the Z SQL methods guide, and the managers guide, and none of these seem to give any examples of how to do this simplest task. (I've found the documentation to be absymal -- no examples, just definitions.) I have a 'dataentry.html' that looks something like this: <form method="post" action="sqltestthing"> Color: <input name="col"> Flavor: <input name="fla"> <input type=submit> </form> And then a Z SQL Method 'sqltestthing': INSERT INTO TESTTABLE (color,flavor) VALUES (,) I enter the data into the form page, and hit submit. I get back the sqltestthing page saying 'This query requires no input.' I hit submit again, and get Error, exceptions.SyntaxError: unexpected token sequence.near :: 'lavor)\012VALUES ('*',) I'm obviously doing this entirely wrong. Perhaps someone could point me to a simple example of a simple database app in action? Daniel Drucker

We are commited and interested in leaving Gadfly in Zope, but we are a little strained for project resources at the moment. Hopefully, we will have a working version of the latest gadfly bundled with zope 2.0 final. We realize that this is an inconvienence, and fixing this is definatly on the board. In the meantime, you can get the latest version of Gadfly (http://www.chordate.com/) and use it in a non-bundled fasion with Zope. It will work identically (probably better, cuz you'd have the latest version) you just have to go the extra step of installing Gadfly. -Michel PS: Gadfly Database Adapter related questions should go here, not to Aaron. Zope2 & win32

I've managed to get python z2.py to work after building a bunch of pyds and copying into the lib python dir, but I see warnings FS21 warn: C:\Python\Zope2/var/Data.fs Database records in the future also I can't seem to access the root of the hierarchy & although I can get to the manage screen I can't seem to view the standard documents. I guess I should try to do some kind of install process, but what? -- Robin Becker

Crash of ZopeHTTPserver

Hi All I am using web applications in production with 1.10.2+ZHTTPserver under RH Linux 5.2 What can I do to have Zope s own server work continuously, without manual re-starts every day? At the begining I did not broke this server but now the delais before crash is growing :( Is the zope db corrupt? Hope your help, FR. PS : I am testing 2.0a but not in production ....

Compiling on BSDI 3.0; using Zope on iServer.com

FWIW, I successfully built Python 1.5.2 and Zope 1.10.2 (w/PCGI) on a BSDI 3 system yesterday. I had to change Python's config.h to remove the HAVE_DYLD and to undefine WITH_THREADS, change LDSHSARED to 'ld -r', and generally avoid using shared objects except for Zope's C modules. Once I had a python that passed "make test", Zope built "out of the box" with no changes. I only had to make a hardlink from the cgi-bin directory to the generated Zope.cgi, and it ran beautifully the first time. Also for what it's worth, the box I built it on was a Verio (iServer.com) Virtual Server B ($95/month), but a Virtual Server A ($55/month) would probably work as well, since it's the same platform AFAIK. Some of the iServer engineers are now checking out Python and Zope for possible addition to their menu of "unsupported" products that you can install on your account automatically. If this works out well, it should be easier to get Zope on track for becoming an offering on Verio's lower-end virtual hosting products, among other things. Access denied when reading empty field in DB

Hello, I have a Z SQL method (querying through a Z ODBC connection to an Access database) that retrieves all the entries in a particular row in a table in my DB, as so: select * from [Verbal Requests] where [Case#] =  Most of the time this works jolly well (I'm still getting over how easy this was to set up in Zope after trying to use various wizards in Access, *shudder* FrontPage, and *double shudder* Interdev) except when it encounter a field with an empty value. The field it chokes on contains values of type Double. I have specified no default value in the database setup. The field is named 'Man Hours' (so that you can recognize it in the traceback). I imagine configuring the Access database to provide a default value for this field will make this go away. Does anyone else have a better idea? I did some thinking along the lines of capturing this situation and providing a slightly more elegant response, i.e. displaying all the fields expect the empty one, but my Zope lore is woefully insufficient.
