I asked this before, but I don't recall getting any responses. It seems that you can write  and SomeMethod -- assuming it is, for example, an External Method -- will be called. Unfortunately it seems SomeMethod is not called with any parameters -- meaning it cannot access the variable or value to be rendered. Is this by design? Is there any way of extending fmt= by having it call our methods with the value as a parameter? I've successfully patched the appropriate source code to verify that it is indeed possible to do what I'm looking for, so... why not? Zope running in JPython is something we've always held out as being an escape hatch. Thus, we'd like to see some work on it. How might this happen? One of two ways seemed logical. Okay, I think I better give details on my problem and I'm use the flow of my program as an example. 1) Select documents to loan: A form that has lots of checkboxes. (DTML Method) 2) Other details before saving, exp. userid, due date, ..etc (DTML Method) 3) Save it (DTML Method ==> calling an External Method) I think I have done no 1 and no 2 but still stuck on no 3. Of course the challenge is the need to constantly repatch the file(s) when you get new versions of Zope. This is a problem... The longer answer is being contemplated in the Zope Internationalization Project (ZIP) list. As you might imagine, this is NOT unique example. In fact, it crosses currency, time and date issue boundaries. I have raised the issue internally that we need to "modularize" these special format definitions so that people can separately install, use and maintain formatting configurations. I am slowly working on a proposal (which I'll make to the ZIP list) to refactor/reinvent Zope's international extensibility (probably mimicking Un*x' LOCALE stuff). If you have any particular ideas on the subject I'd love to hear them! HTH, --Rob

In the mean time you can submit news by sending it to info(a)digicool.com BTW, I am working hard on the new Zope site which will solve this kind of problem in a much better way. If you wish to contribute software or news items or documentation, etc you will become a member and will be able to create and manage Zope objects in your own home Folder. I hope to have the site ready enough to ask for beta testers with something to contribute (i.e. software, news, docs, etc.) soon. -Amos
