Simple Counter in zope?

Hi guys.. I'd like to implement a simple counter in zope (I'm surprised I couldnt find one already actually).. So I imagine something like this is pretty simple, but I have no idea where to start.. My first thought was just to create a new variable, and have the DHTML write to it, but it doesn't seem like that's possible. How do I create new values in the zope db, access them and assign things to them? Thanks! -Nic

acquisition angst - help pls.

i thought i sort of understood acquisition but this one has me stumped. /locations/index_html contains this : <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-var mtdBanner> <dtml-var mtdCategoryListing> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> where mtdCategoryListing is a dtml method which formats the output from a z sql method. the z sql method takes one argument "category". now, if i run this with "/locations/index_html?category=hotels" it works fine. but i don't like ever using those "?var=value&var2=value2" urls. it would be better to use "/locations/hotels" for the example above. taking this one step further, to subcategories, "/locations/hotels/3star" would be way better than "/locations/index_html?category=hotels&subcategory=3star" ok, so far ? so, to enable this, i created another folder "/locations/Hotels" and this folder has a property called "category" whose value is "hotels" now, if i type in the URL "/locations/Hotels" there is no index_html in the folder, so zope then goes up one directory to "/locations" and uses "/locations/index_html" and then several things go wrong : a) the sql method called in mtdCategoryListing claims that there is no property called 'category'. how come it didn't pick it up from the subfolder Hotels which was in the URL ? b) worse, the dmtl method 'mtdBanner' in the index_html (see above) now bums out badly. it is actually in the root folder (ie. it is "/mtdBanner") and it's code is simple : <dtml-with "Images.Banner"> .... loads of html and <dtml-var> expressions </dtml-with> when i was using "/locations/index_html?category=hotels" i had no problems, but now using "/locations/Hotels", i get this error : Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. (my current method seems a bit of a pain in the butt creating all these folders for all the categories and subscategories... and not as flexible for changes). eg. for the "Restaurants" category, i have 40 subcategories, each requiring a folder to get the value of 'subcat'. the price to pay for simpler URLs ? cheers, chas

Yet another apache + zope config questions

Hi, I know that there is ample discussion in the docs and faq regarding the configuration of an existing web server and zope, but I still can't get it to work. Here's my configuration: Suse Linux 6.2 Apache 1.3.6 w/mod_rewrite loaded Zope is installed in /usr/local/zope Zope CGI is in /usr/local/httpd/cgi-bin Rewrite Rules are: RewriteCond %{HTTP:Authorization} ^(.*) RewriteRule ^/Zope(.*) /cgi-bin/Zope.cgi$1 [e=HTTP_CGI_AUTHORIZATION:%1,t=application/x-httpd-cgi,l] /usr/local/zope is defined in httpd.conf with execute options No matter how I try this, I still can't get authentication. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The contents of Help were suffering badly from non-content or out-of-date content. We felt that, despite the recent focus on documentation that incorrect docs WERE, in fact, worse than no docs at all. :^) As a result, the Help tab was taken out. We are working on resuscitating it as soon as we can. It may come back in a different way, however. --Rob

I have a Zope 2.0.0 running without problem, but my management screen doesn't display a help tab. What't the problem? I'm using sun sparc solaris 2.5, compiled Zope from source, using python 1.5.2. I use the ./start script to start Zope, no other web server used. Where should I check?

Question: Passing variables several levels

OK, Here's the story. I have several cases in which I'd like to have a horizontal bar. So, I defined a DTML method at the top of the hierarchy named Banner_Bar_Generic. This works in isolation. Then, I have a DTML method named linkHome that generates a relative link containing a sufficient number of "../" entries to take the user back to the top of the site. This also works in isolation, but oddly enough, only when called as <dtml-var linkHome>, and not as <dtml-var "linkHome">; the latter apparently has problems passing PARENTS or REQUEST. linkHier (not shown; also works in isolation and has an implementation similar to linkHome) generates a strong showing where the person is in the site; ie "Air Capital Linux Users Group: Information: Free Software", in a Yahoo fashion. Now, the question. I want to put a top bar on each page, containing these sorts of links. So, I figure I ought to define a Banner_Bar_Top, implemented in terms of Banner_Bar_Generic. However, I can't figure out how to pass along the proper strings; I always get a Zope error. Here's my latest attempt at this. Also below is the code for the other DTML methods.
