> Hi, I am using External Methods to execute my business layer logic, and need to have global variables available to me. Unfortunately the global variables in the module I am using do not seem to persist through the session and are being reset as if the module is being re-imported when I click on another link. Can someone please explain this and make any suggestions as to the best way to maintain global python variables accessible to external methods. As you can guess I am a Zope and python newbie so apologies, Tony Lynch.

trying PythonMethods 0.1.2

I just got the new version of PythonMethods from the Zope site. I installed it, restarted Zope, and tried to create a new PythonMethod. I got a "resource not found" error. Seems it has a problem with the path to the "manageAdd" form... It was trying to load: http://ddb/zope/manage_addProduct/PythonMethod/www (obviously my zope is at http://ddb/zope/) I nstalled it in the normal zope product way by ungzipping it in my root Zope directory, and Zope claims that it's fine (no broken product stuff). Anybody else used the new version? dave

zclasses - changing properties

I just like having everything in the ZODB, and the ability to manipulate everything in Zopish sorts of ways. Sure, I like SQL, too... But, Zope is more fun! I haven't run into any problems with ZClass/ZCatalog managing about 1500 objects. Nothing leads me to believe things will be problematic as we add more. Kevin

I've tried searching the archives for <dtml-if> for an answer and with more than 500 results and subjects like 'Newbie question', 'problem', or just nothing at all, the first 50 did not even have <dtml-if> in them at all. I wonder if it did a search for '<dtml' and no 'if>' The results were at : http://www.egroups.com/search?type=mbox&query=%3cdtml-if%3e&listname=zope&s… Anyway, my question is, can I use <dtml-if> to compare a MySQL data value to a constant value such as (although these two haven't worked as well as other variations and combinations of these examples) <td><dtml-if <dtml-var add2faq>='Y'> YES <dtml-else> <form method="get" action="update_add2faq"><input type="checkbox" name="pass_faq" value=<dtml-var ID>><input type="submit" name="add2" value="YES"></form> </dtml-if> </td> OR <td><dtml-if add2faq.value ='Y'> YES <dtml-else> <form method="get" action="update_add2faq"><input type="checkbox" name="pass_faq" value=<dtml-var ID>><input type="submit" name="add2" value="YES"></form> </dtml-if> </td> The add2faq field is an enum of ('N','Y') in a MySQL table. To test for instantiation, you can special case ExtensionClasses (no need after Python1.6) and sniff for __class__. If it doesn't have one, it's a regular python class. If it does have one, and it's value is just ExtensionClass, then it's an ExtensionClass. Otherwise it's an instance. -Michel

ExtensionClass

This question is not about Zope, per se. It is directed rather squarely at Digital Creations. Also, my subscription to the list has faltered, and I have not received many messages since about 8/14/99, though I still received my zope.org maillist memberships reminder on the first of 9/99. On to the question: Is there an equivalent for issubclass and isinstance that will work on ExtensionClasses? I am writing a WxPython/ZODB app that will maintain a tree of objects, and dynamically select a class to generate an editable view of the object based on its class. These viewer classes attach to object classes, such that they can view any given object, or its descendants. However, all my classes, to be stored in the ZODB, must subclass from Persistence.Persistent, which makes them Extension Class objects from Python's perspective, whereupon it refuses to test for inheritance or instantiation. This program was originally written in Python/TKinter against a Shelve class of my own devising, that wrapped a simple binary tree and a filesystem-in-a-file together. ZODB seems perfect for my purposes, and I sincerely admire the power and flexibility of the Extension Class metaphor, but if there is no mechanism whereby I can determine whether an object is an instance of a given Extension Class or subclass thereof, I will have to regretfully go back to moving away from Python to straight C++, and trying to finish my B+Tree.
