Where is the Z Class Tutorial?

In the excellent "How-To: Z Catalog Tutorial" Amos refers us to the "Z Class Tutorial". I think Z Classes are just what I want, but I can't find it. Does anyone know where it is? While I am at it I will ask if I am after the right approach. I am getting back into Zope after a few months away from it due to a job change. So much has changed! I want to make a contact manager. Basically names and addresses and phone numbers, etc. I was thinking about mySQL since I have used it before but I need to implement it on Windows. I would like to be able to reuse it on Linux so I don't want to get into any platform specific database. I started to look at Gadfly but then I came across mention of Z Classes. Are they robust enough for a couple of thousand entries? Can I cross reference say contacts and companies stored in two separate Z Classes? Thank you, Phil. Personally, I really enjoy working with ZClasses instead of a standard relational database. I have no reason to think that they won't scale to a couple thousand entries. Right now, I have a ZClass container that contains about 25 ZClass containers that contain about 550 ZClasses that contain about 750 ZClass instances. In total, my ZODB probably has 1400-1500 ZClass instances and I have no complaints. Between the convenience of direct traversal to objects and the zippy searching of ZCatalog, it all works great! >Can I cross reference say contacts and companies stored in two separate >Z Classes? Though there have been a couple requests for it, there is no property type that can directly link one object to another. There are certainly a few ways to accomplish a similar result. In the "contacts" and "companies" example, if there is no chance of a contact being with more than one company, you can do this: Company (ZClass that inherits from ObjectManager so that it can contain other objects) Contact (ZClass) Then, if you refer to a Contact object, you can get to the company by using PARENTS[1]. hi, sorry to burden you guys with such simple problem. but the answer eludes me. Problem: i have folders contained in root like so / LfolderA | LfolderA.1 | LfolderB . . and so on each folder ha s a dtml method main. there's only one index_html method - which is in root dir - calling method main. if i call <dtml-var main>, the dtml method from root will always be returned. Q: How can i get main from any folders returned to index_html? tried using <dtml-in X >, <dtml-var X> and <dtml-with X> but i am not sure what X should be. roughly what i did in index_html in root folder: ------------------------ <dtml-in X> <dtml-with Y> <dtml-var Z> </dtml-with> </dtml-in> where X,Y,Z are combinations of the following: objectValues, objectItems, PARENTS[0].main but to no avail help ..?

Changing storage manager

Hi there: In the ZODB Howto: "A Storage Manager is the database back end of Zope. The default storage manager for Zope is a ZODB3 database file object that can be found in the top level var directory of Zope (var/Data.fs). There are other storage managers for Zope, in various stages of development: o The Relational Storage Manager stores all Zope transactions in a relational database. This is still experimental." I've looked all over but I was unable to find the way to change the storage manager from the Data.fs file to a relational DB (mySQL, Sybase, etc ) or indeed to any other kind (like the Temp storage manager also mentioned in the ZODB Howto). Can anyone give me some insights or pointers on how to do this ? C U! -- Mario Valente

Is Zope binary content Python1.5.2 for rh5.2 ?

As I wrote in my last mail, I use the Zope Linux binary and this one contents Python 1.5.2, no!? I had so many problems when I updated rh5.0 from python1.5.0 to 1.5.1 that I break a lot now before changes for production. Many softs are linked to Python :) Did you make this python change on rh5.2 (1.5.1 -> 1.5.2) ? AUTHENTICATED_USER considered harmfull :)

Having just spent 2 days debugging a Zope 2.0 problem (due to my own stupidity) I finally fixed the problem by changing one of the dozens of references to AUTHENTICATED_USER to AUTHENTICATED_USER.name - the first of course returns a user object, the second returns a text string. This is something to watch out for, as of course a <dtml-var AUTHENTICATED_USER> prints out a string (which does NOT mean it contains one, it just means iut renders as one!) and therefore this problem can be non-obvious.. i know this has been posted before, but newbies like myself meed constant reminders :) BTW, in another direction, has does anyone know why the default DTML in Zope 2.0 atr formated in the old style, not the new <dtml-var > style? Hi I've just started out with Zope and would like to write a test app involving the IMAPAdapter and LDAPAdapter. I've added the products and it shows up in my Products folders. How do I continue from here? Where should I add an instance of the adapters? Does anyone have any code samples they would like to share? How-to? Thanx Roelof
