JobBoard Example

Hello I am trying to set run the JobBoard example of "Object publishing with Zope", as there is only a cgi-bin implementation on the docs I have try to import the JobBoard.py method without sucess, python send an error message that says that it cud not find the DocumentTemplate module, why??? this module is part of zope so why can't it find it, is there a solution? any advice? Sam

Perhaps the standard "view management screens" permission works fine for most objects, but you have a particular widget that you want to handle more specifically. So, you can set map the permission to "View Widget Screens". Then, users whose role gives them the "view management screens" permission is free to do so with standard items, but they can't view those screens for your Widget class unless their role specifically gives them "View Widget Screens" permission. Sure, you could muddle with the Security tab of each instance so that only the right people can view the management screens... but, using a mapping like this, you can set it at a higher level in the hierarchy and be done with it. Gadfly database: do primary key?

Is there a way, during table-creation, to specify a column as primary key, or something like INT AUTO-INCREMENT? If so, could you please give the specific syntax? If not, what's the work-around? Simpleton requests help - what's this mapping malarkey ?:)

I'm feeling kind of dumb here - perhaps I'm getting distracted by the terminology used but what's this "mapping" of permissions ? I've checked the ZCMG but that only deals with users/roles/permissions which is fairly straight-forward and intuitive. Were these permission mappings added in Zope 2.0 or is documentation hiding somewhere ? eg. Ok, so let's look at a typical "define permissions" page : - Access contents information <disabled> - Change DTML Methods <disabled> - Change permissions <disabled> - Change proxy roles <disabled> - Delete objects <disabled> - FTP access <disabled> - Manage properties <disabled> - View <view> - View management screens <disabled> OK, so "view management screens" is now disable and nobody can view them. Fair enough. But say I want to enable them, why would I want to map "view management screens" to anything other than, er, "view management screens" ? And where is the correlation between this action and a user's identity ? Another example: anonymous users call this dtml-method; this method then changes the properties of the zclass. So, I go to the pulldown menu opposite "manage properties" and roger me relentlessly if "manage properties" doesn't just look like the appropriate choice ! The mind boggles - I'm going nuts. What am I supposed to do with this ? As I said, roles/users/permissions make sense but these make as much sense as a bucketful of number 2's. chas

problems with #in

I have an #in loop to pull some folder properties and populate a HTML drop down list. The problem that I have is that everything is sent for each item in the list. For example, one of the properties is called 'projects', which is a 'line' type and contains: Project #1 Project #2 With the following placed in the HTML (after the necessary form stuff):  <OPTION VALUE="">  It populates the drop down menu, but it puts them all in a Python list for each entry (in this case there are two 'list' objects with both entries in them). I've looked through the DTML Users Guide for a way to do a slice (or something similar) or a 'for x in projects:' but have turned up nothing. I'm certain there has to be some other way than to write an External Method. Newbie property question

Hello, I want to create a list of URLs and be able to refer to them throughout Zope. I found I can do that by adding a property to the main page. But how do I create separate folder and be able to call its properties throughout Zope? I want to do that so that if a URL changes I have to update it only once. I don't want to include URLs on the main page because that makes for a monster main property page.  will turn into http://www.biscuit.com/ throughout Zope if I add it to the property page for the main page.  fails if I create a subfolder called References and add biscuit to its property list. I've gone through all the documentation. I've gone through the mailing list archives. But no go. Or is there a better way to accomplish what I'm trying to do? I want to use ZODB rather than an external database. thank you, Luke Tymowski

We have been doing some work with Zope as a data exchange server via HTTP. We are using it to broker data to/from an Oracle database, we chose this method over other protocols simply because of Firewall issues(nobody blocks HTTP-Port80). As Java can perform HTTP get() and post() requests both embedded in a web page and as a Fat Client(no-browser), It seems relatively straight forward to enable the client to exchange data anywhere on the internet. Actually we have been working with Macromedia Flash on the Client side. Version 4 of Flash allows you to Set Variables via Get and Post requests. It is a relatively simple operation and is quite painless. ------------------- Look into XML/RPC! You could have your client format an HTTP request as XML and perform functions so that only necessary data goes over the wire. Resulting data sets can come back as XML as Java can parse an XML Document/Data Set. Setting up the Zope to do this is easy! Enjoy, Theodore E. This method creates the text for a type of navigation bar (like you see at Yahoo!) which consists of hyperlinks to each of the parent objects of the current object; for example: Home > Admin > Events > Christmas Party The name "breadcrumbs" is an allusion to the story of Hansel and Gretel who left a trail of breadcrumbs to help them find their way out of the dark forest (or something like that).
