Jim can better speak to this, but it's more difficult than it looks (see the UML model for more information), but has to do with supporting multiple databases in the same tree. We already have a few storage mechanisms that don't support undo or versions., it's simply the integration into the full system that is more complex. Well, a complex question in a database without transactions, there's always room for corruption :-) But yes, the likelyhood is much higher I would suspect. In this case all Zope transactions are serialized, so you wouldn't have two different threads trying to change it at the same time. In my opinion it's getting increasingly obvious that the ZODB badly needs cheap, non-undoable, "transient" transactions. Counters, sessions, often-refreshed internal state tables -- lots of applications need it, and moving this stuff outside the ZODB breaks with the object-oriented design. python ignorance shining through...

Hi all, I've got an external method that does an SQL lookup and retrieves (essentially) two fields, tagclass and content. Zope/manage problem

Hello! After much struggle, I finally got Zope 2.0 working on my Mandrake 6.1b linux system. I first got it working with the Zserver, then without it (just Apache + PCGI). I had to make some accessibility changes to a couple of the files that weren't described in any of the docs (as far as I could tell), but that isn't important at the moment. So, its working, mostly... I open up Netscape, go to http://my.computers.address.org/Zope/manage, enter my superuser login and password, and voila!---I'm in the Zope manage menu. Everything seems to be working great---I can add users, objects, the works. But the buttons on the main page ([Rename] [Cut] [Copy] [Delete] [Export...]) don't work. Pressing any of them, regardless of what I've checked off in the menu, gives me a "404 Not Found" error. I've done a little diagnostics and checked out the httpd log files. Every time I press one of those buttons, the server tries to find something in /home/httpd/html/Zope. But there is no Zope file or directory in the html directory---I only have a Zope.cgi in the /home/httpd/cgi-bin directory. The log entry is as follows: [Mon Sep 13 22:33:06 1999] [error] [client 216.63.52.0] File does not exist: /home/httpd/html/Zope Has anyone else experienced this problem? I couldn't find any mention of it in the distribution docs, online faqs and guides, or in the mailing list archives. Representing an external server in a tree?

I am building framed online learning environments and I am very new to zope. Lot's of it's features say migrate from a static site especially navigation trees which I currently do in JavaScript by hand. I think I could bring in projects 6 months early. If I did I could concentrate on content rather than architecture and maintenance. However I still need to reference external webservers within the navigation tree. The only way I can see of doing this is to upload a HTML document as a file and have it meta refresh to the external website which runs automated assessment software. I've looked at Kevin's ZClass How-to (the bit at the bottom of it needs a <pre>, btw) and I've tried various versions of trying to call the createInObjectManager inside the _add page of the ZClass... These all result in creating the object in the parent folder of the new folderish object. I know I'm missing something really really stupid. Can someone help me here? Anthony
