Zope and Disk Quotas and Docs, Oh my!

I am in the early stages of designing a fairly large intranet (2000+ users) that might use Zope. I'm very impressed with it on the Zope beta site - it seems to work quite well for managing hundreds of users' articles and comments. But does it support disk quotas? I assume a user on the Zope beta site can't upload more than a few megs of files! Nevertheless, I haven't seen documentation on any Zope site about how to do this. This would be very important, since we want to have an interface so users can store files without making it easy to compromise our server. One other question: This project will probably have to have an e-mail interface. I could implement an SMTP server in Python that interfaces with Zope, but it would be much simpler to have a web-page interface that connects to an IMAP back end. It would be easiest to validate users who log on against the IMAP server, so all the passwords stay consistent. How difficult would it be for me to create an IMAPUserFolder product, a bit like the NisUserFolder and the SmbUserFolder? Is this practical? This already exists - Michel P. did it as part of his Notmail product. It's available in the CVS tree... Zope 2 dying and restarting

Linux 2.2.12; python 1.5.2; pentium 166; 64 Mb RAM; almost no swapping right now. Just installed Zope in /usr/zope. I tried it on one local system to see what I could do with it. I compiled it on another system that's connected to the net. On that system I set up a special password and group for it. Run as root, UID set to that user. This is the real question: what can I do to get information about why it dies? The only real change I made was to remove the -D "$@" from the start file. I don't know if it will means anything; but it's located at www.inxservices.com:8080/SOM/BulletinBoard. I get an error from python that I don't understand (on both machines -- the original test machine and the one described here): Could not find platform dependent libraries <exec_prefix> Consider setting $PYTHONHOME to <prefix>[:<exec_prefix>]

Odd MySQL exception

This is one of those requests where I hope I don't find the answer two seconds after I send it, but I am stumped, so here it goes: I have a Z SQL method named get_bs that I am trying to get to work. After playing around with it, I think I have narrowed down the problem. With the query template: select cash from bal_sheet I get: --- Error, exceptions.KeyError: unhandled SQL used: select cash from bal_sheet --- Here is the relevant traceback:  I believe the problem is with the bal_sheet table, because "select * from bal_sheet" or any other multi-column select gives me the same exception. I haven't seen this issue on other tables in my database. The query works as expected at the mysql console prompt. Any ideas for a workaround or suggestions as to what I could be doing wrong? index_html method in a zclass

Hi! Hope someone can help me out here. I've just created a simple zclass that contains an index_html method. I've also created a test instance of the class. I tought calling the instance using '' from a dtml method or document would render the class' index_html method, but I get no output. The only way I can display the instance' index_html is by dooing: '' Am I doing something wrong, or is the first method described in here not possible? Thanks in advance Sture Lygren

Online Quiz in Zope

Hello everyone, my school has a set of old computer problems written in BASIC. They are basically a collection of problem sets, each containing 10 questions. For each question you get usually one point (there are some sets where there is only one problem and there are some other exceptions). Sometimes one numerical result can be carried over to the next problem. Additionally, some problems have multiple answers. When the problems will be on the web, the department wants to be able to add students to list to allow them to do the problems. Some DB then keeps track of results and so on. These problem sets are homeworks and the student has as much time as he/she needs. The only thing they cannot do is to repeat the question in the same try. But they can start over. Since most people in the department (physics) do not know much about object oriented programming it will be necessary to create a very easy content management, including entering the formulas to check the solutions. I think it would be nice to use some ZClasses and the new PythonMethods for the problem. I would use ZClasses to create ProblemSet, Problem, ... I would use the PythonMethod to provide an easy way to enter the formulas to validate the answers. Here my question: Did anyone do anything similar I could use? Could you send me some comments of how you would approach the issue? Where do you see difficulties? regards, stephan

Hello, Thanks to everyone that kindly replied to my request for help regarding the connect string for ZMySQLAD , I am glad to report that I have it working now, thanks so much, for your help, I have another question if I may, I am trying to set up a registration area by means of the UserDb product. Which handles pretty well creation, edition, deletion of accounts but due to my freshness to zope command language I am failing to enhance the scripts, right now you can enter your user name and password, but get no actual confirmation of the login, and I would like to be able to automatically generate the password and send it by email in order to avoid false user registration (from users that might give false email or data or have nothing better to do at the time that play ). I would also like to be able to automatically generate a directory, much like on the beta zope site for new users to live in, I know this might be to much to ask, but I think this would also server the community as well, as right now there are not many options to do this, If some one cud give me some light on this I am willing to work hard to make this happen. I hope some one listen to my proposal, and thanks so much again for all the help you have give me so far, help without I cud not got up to this point, zope's community is the Best! Squishdot mail notification.

I've asked this on the Squishdot list as well as at squishdot.org with little response. Does anyone have Squishdot email notification working properly on Linux using Zope 2.0.0? I can't seem to make this work, and the Squish code pretty much baffles me. A message gets sent when an article with mail notification is replied to (how, I dont have a clue, it would be nice to have a comment in the source somewhere as to how this magic is accomplished...) The message arrives at the mailhost specified in the Mail Host configuration. But the message has a recipient of "None", and a blank sender. Therefore, the receiving sendmail trashes it. It's probably just a case of parameters not being passed between functions in the right order, or arguments being sent incorrectly to the routine that handles the sending of mail, but I'll be damned if I can even *see* where it sends mail in Squishdot.py. Little help?
