Butch, that is a great idea. It would be a great tool for novices like myself. I currently have a problem where I built a ZClassed based object and now am unsure how to move the object/product to a new Zope instance. Are there any pointers out there on how this is accomplished? XMLDocument question, DOM API

Hi all, I'm trying to do something very simple with XMLDocument. I want to extend the FAQ example described by Amos in http://www.xml.com/pub/2000/01/xmlrpc/index.html I've wrote an external method called "addEntry": def addEntry(self, REQUEST): entry = self.getOwnerDocument().createElement('entry') self.appendChild(entry) What I want to do with it is to add a new entry to the FAQ. Nesting a ZClass is an explicit operation with that goal in mind, a nested ZClass cannot be added anywhere else. XML Document: lower-case id-attribute exception

When trying to add an XML Document instance that has lower case id-attributes within tags (eg. something like <para id="p001">) Zope raises an exception (Error Value: Invalid or duplicate property id). But when the attribute is upper case, everything goes allright (<para ID="p001">). This time the XML-element instance has both a standard Zope id-property and an ID-property. Now maybe the XML parser that is used by Zope could be altered somewhat so that it translates to upper-case all occurences of an id-attribute. A very good proposal, Butch. Why not include Python products as well? Granted, you have to restart Zope for them, but the dependency checks alone would make it very worthwhile, a bit like RPMs. The format developed for a ZopePack could also include information on where to find the latest version, and the ZopePackProduct could even check for newer versions on demand. No downloading to the server with automatic install though, unless we develop some kind of signing scheme, and other security checks. One more ObjectManager/ZClass question ... When nesting ZClasses, the "SubObjects" tab of the container class says to "Select the kinds of things that can be added to objects of this kind". However, the nested ZClass meta-type does not appear in this selection box. Rather, one proceeds to the "Permissions" tab and changes the class permissions to allow addition of the nested class. I don't understand this. While I know what to do (in recipe fashion), I don't understand the rationale behind it. Cheers, Darran.

Cataloging ZClasses which are subclasses of a ZClass?

To use a well-worn metaphor, I continue my steep climb up the Zope learning curve (top-roped by the able members of this list). Today I struggled with ZCatalog-aware ZClasses. I have been toying with a simple example - a URLClass nested beneath a URLFolderProduct and URLFolderClass. URLClass is catalog-aware and, among others, has a string property for the URL (note, beware of naming a ZClass property "URL"). This all works - I can create a URLFolder and instances of URLClass within it. Now I add a "singleton" (by virtue of me only creating one instance?) ZCatalog in the URLFolder. My problem is that the URLClass's meta-type does not show up in the ZCatalog's "Find items to ZCatalog" tab. (This seems reminiscent of the ZClass ID bug.) If URLClass is created in the Product root (and thus able to be added anywhere rather than just in URLFolder objects), it shows up in said Catalog tab selection box. Eventually I want to move on and have my URLFolder subclassed from ZCatalog as discussed in: http://www.zope.org/Members/tseaver/inherit_ZCatalog but I won't proceed with this until I have this basic example worked out. Help - ZODB Couldn't load state

Is it possible to use ZODB to access a non Zope filestore from an external method that is being called from Zope? I'm getting an error when I try to do so? I'm trying to use ZODB to store some data. I've created my own DB and filestore outside of zope and it works find with my external test rig. But when I integrate my code into Zope as external methods, when I try to retreive objects I get errors such as: In the browser window: Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. objectValues &c for base class?

If I've got a bunch of ZClasses, all derived from the same base ZClass, is there an easy way to say 'give me a list of all objects whose class or base class is foo'? Sort of like what the current objectValues &c does, but being able to specify the meta_types of the base classes, rather than having to enumerate all the possible different classes. What about if all the classes are in the same Product in Control_Panel/Products? Could you filter based on product? ta, Anthony
