Checking the state of a database connection

How does one check to see if a database connection is up and running? What I want to do is check to see if the connector is connected. If not, redirect the browser to another page. I tried a try/try but didn't seem to catch the exception. Also, can you put a redirect command in the standard_html_header? Return from ZSQL Update?

Greetings! I've got a SQL Method which does an update on a table. Obviously, when the row I'd like to update exists, the SQL method works fine, but when the row isn't there to begin with, the SQL method just does nothing. Is there a way to find out if the update actually changed a row or not? (And if not, do an alternate INSERT statement instead of the UPDATE.) I would have expected to get an error back from the SQL method, but I get nothing. I'm using an Oracle database connection. (Larger Picture: Obviously one solution would be to do a SELECT on the table to determine if the row exists, and then do an UPDATE or INSERT depending on the results of the select, but I'd rather not do two SQL statements for every update I'm trying to do.) MySQL Methods and Names?

Hi All, I have been setting up a MySQL database for book selling, and came across what seems to be a slight problem. I have a table with a column called 'title'. When I wrote the ZSQL method, using the following code: SELECT title FROM titles WHERE <dtml-sqltest title column=title op=like type=string> if the user hits RETURN without entering a value for title, Zope seems to look up the folder hierarchy and insert the title of the document. why use zope?

hi all, firstly, it's not me asking that question. it's the users. here's the situation.: we have developed a ZClass that caters for the publishing/serving of news items. we already have contents done in quark, pagemaker and other formats. users (editorial) currently cut and paste from the source. when the users saw that they have to cut and paste, they asked why? and they pointed to frontpage, pagemill, etc as a solution. now, we don't want that, but how can we explain the benefit of zope over the others. i have read the zope against cf, vignette thread, but that's too high level for the users to grasp, me think. so, really, what's the benefit of using zope instead of the others; esp for the non-techies. p/s - maybe it's our failure in providing a better solution in exporting contents from window$ apps that cause this question. help, pointers, docs, welcomed. -- ------------------------------------------------------ http://www.kedai.com.my/kk Am I Evil?

Dreamweaver and zope

Hi all, a while ago I saw that Andrew Woolridge (hope the last name is right) was developing an extension for dreamweaver to save files in DTML. This would be obviously handy for those who actually design the pages, while the editors will rely only on the web forms on the zope interface. Does anybody know if he went forward with that project, or if someone else developed it?
