Reality check PYZOMA = python / zope for Mac ?

Hello I am wondering what the prospects are for Python and Zope on Macintosh: Is the mac getting left behind or will the new MacOSX in fact bring Python adn Zope more easily into the fold? I am quite concerned that projects planned for Python and Zope will not be in fact be usable on Macs.. What are the realistic prospects during the next 6-12 months do you think? Does anybody even care anymore? No, you are right. It does not work. It is because LM's default login method is Basic. Basic logout does not work because of Basic authentication and that the browser caches the credential. This means unless you shut down your browser, whatever you do, you are back to square one. The remedy is to change your login method to Cookie so that AUTHENTICATED_USER.logout() works. Precompiled w/Apache?

I thought I read where there is a tar ball with Zope and Apache precompiled to work together without Zserver? I'm on a deadline to get the demo project up and going, and not having to go through half a day of compiling this and that would be awesome. Any Ideas? Rick

This is something that I still don't quite understand. I have a set of (python, Folder derived) objects, which are children of a Folder derived python class. Each of these in turn has another, related python object. / a ab1 ab2 ab3 b1 b2 b3 When I access /a/ab1, I want b1 inserted into the acquisition hierarchy between a and ab1. I've done this with __bobo_traverse__, but that doesn't help when you access ab1 as an attribute of a, such as when using objectValues(). So I thought I would try overriding __of__, like so in the ab class: def __of__(self, parent): wparent = self._b.__of__(parent) return Folder.Folder.__of__(self, wparent) But that doesn't work, I get this error on the return line: Error Type: TypeError Error Value: unbound C method must be called with Acquirer 1st argument Any ideas? I'm pretty confused. Thanks, -Randy

why I don't use popen2 any more

In the for what it's worth department... Using Linux (RH 6.2), Zope 2.2.2, Python 1.5.2 I wanted to run a unix command from my External Method that I wrote using Python. Digging around in Zope archives and other sources, I came up with a method that worked, of which this is a fragment: import popen2 (r, w) = popen2.popen2('somecommand') w.write(commandinput) w.close() s = r.read() r.close() However, this had the nasty side effect of leaving <defunct> processes around. I discovered one instance on the web of someone having this same problem using Python but not Zope-related. No solution was given. I *think* the really bad thing about these processes (called zombies?) is that they may have certain resources, such as files, held open. And they are said to stay around until the process that created them dies itself. The fix seems to be easier than the original solution. Replace all of the above with import commands s = commands.getoutput('echo ' + commandinput + ' | somecommand') Presto, no more defunct processes. Hopefully a more stable Zope. Keen observers will note the security risk if commandinput contains arbitrary input from users. Wasn't true for me but it might be for you. A curiosity: the description in Python Essential Reference says getoutput uses os.popen2() to execute the command, but I was too lazy^H^H^H^H busy to investigate further. -- Dennis Nichols nichols(a)tradingconnections.com

Hi Steve, Deliverables has objects. The call to existent objects are successful. It's the call to the inexistent objects that doesn't turn out expectedly. But the first thing is whether my script is correct. Do you thing so? And any other way to test this kind of situation, i.e. passing processing when failure. And what's the best way to debug a skinscript. So far I can only guess when it comes to debug a skinscript. And what's wrong with WITH Deliverables.getItem(self.id) COMPUTE name, dueDate, description, todoIDs I cooked this up according to the SkinScriptSyntax wiki, but it doesn't work, complaining not_found when calling the existent objects. A change like this fixes the problem: WITH Deliverables.getItem(self.id) COMPUTE name=name, dueDate=dueDate, description=description, todoIDs=todoIDs What's wrong with my assingmentornamelist?
