okay, i'll try again, with some code this time. i'm trying to use zodb to provide persistent store. after various permutations swiped from the howto, jim fulton's SPAM8 paper, and quick python, i've still got the same basic problem, with no clue what's wrong. so i've distilled it down to a small example. i've got a simple Person class, defined in Person.py: import Persistence class Person(Persistence.Persistent): """A Persistent Person""" def __init__(self, name, age): self.name = name self.age = age i can create a database and populate it by running a small script (not shown here). it works fine when run by hand. i've also got a file in $ZOPE/Extensions called Keepers.py: import ZODB, ZODB.FileStorage db = ZODB.DB( ZODB.FileStorage.FileStorage( 'TestDB.fs' ) ) connection = db.open() root = connection.root() def GetPeople( self ): "Return list of people in DB" people = [] for key in root.keys(): people.append( root[ key ] ) return people if __name__ == '__main__': for person in GetPeople( None ): print person.name, 'is', person.age, 'years old' i can run this by hand, and it works fine. so i create an External Method that points to GetPeople(). when i reference it in a DTML document, i get: Could not lock the database file. While there are many fine developers who have the intent of creating a product for distribution which is for all practical purposes a commercial grade deliverable (with docs and all). I would not want to set this as the standard. If this level of 'compliance' becomes the norm, then we could easily loose half of the contributions that are currently in place. These contributions have been made by indoviduals who have developed something for their own use and have tossed it into the community 'as-is' just in case some one else can find benefit from it. I do appreciate being able to install a product and have it work like a champ with documentation, however being able to work through someone elses contributed code to see how they did x-y-z is of huge benefot to me as well. It would be a shame to loose these resources just because we demanded that the contributor actually become a literary author as well as code author. ... just my ($1.00/50) worth.

Squishdot issue?

All - I just started working with Zope a couple of months ago. Recently, at Zope version 2.1.2 I added the TinyTable and Squishdot products to my installation. I was able to create a Squishdot object and customize. No problems.... However, I am now running a fresh installation of Zope version 2.1.4 (same Squishdot version 0.3.2) and have once again created a Squishdot object inside a Folder object. Well, when trying to access the Squishdot object from a browser, I am prompted with a sign-in box. I have not created an ACLUSERS object so by default anyone should be able to view the object without needing to authenticate. This is probably something stupid and easy to fix, but I cannot find the solution. Does anyone have a suggestion? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, -Brian

Green things... In my experience, objectValues('tagname') is what you're after. It will return a list of all children with the tag name of 'tagnam'. so, to get the paragraphs of the a file called sample_xml containing: <html> <body> Paragraph1 Paragraph2 </body> </html> you would use: sample_xml[0].objectValues('body')[0].objectValues('p') This is code i have used several times. Of course, if you are working over the body and p tags seperately, you can use: <dtml-in "sample_xml[0].objectValues('body')"> <do things here> <dtml-in "objectValues('p')"> <do paragraph things here> </dtml-in> </dtml-in> Is this the sort of info you were after? acl_users password changes?

has anybody got a code snippet for letting users change their own passwords in an acl_user folder? maybe with some form html code too? :) i am using the stock User Folder objects. i think i could probably write the code (on my very very shaky zope sea legs), but i was having some trouble figuring out exactly what the correct method to call was. and what the correct object/namespace, etc, is. :( this all feels very complicated to me right now. i am a total newbie who knows how to set up zope and install products. that's about it. i am doing this inside a private squishdot site i'm running for around 50 people. at this point, they can log in and do their thing, but there's no way for them to change their own passwords. and that's one of the "big" features we really do need. from what i understand the PTK will probably take care of most of this, but we aren't there yet... its not out, and i just need to do this one little simple thing anyway. :) many thanks in advance to all those who can assist! thanks! elijah wright elw(a)stderr.org

newbie tree code problem

ok, the plan was to be able to make parts of the tree visible/non-visible by setting a boolean on the node. With this structure lists + another feedback + sillytest With a boolean visible=false on sillytest my code (below) produces feedback - another (the titles of these anyway). That is, I get a hole where sillytest goes, obviously because the +/- for the node is produced when visiting the inner part of the <dtml-tree ...> before the <dtml-if>. How can I get around this? It seems to me that there must be some expression I can put in the <dtml-tree ...> part otherwise there could be no general solution. What expression would work? NT Authentication?

I'm currently running Zope & ZServer on a FreeBSD 3.3 machine, and would like to be able to authenticate users via the NT server on our LAN. Is that currently possible? Is it even feasible?
