Options for handling concurrency?

Hi all, One of my Zope sites is used by classes of students - up to 60 or so at a time. When they use the site the response time is really slow - they could be waiting minutes between clicks. The site uses ZSQL methods *extensively* and external methods. I realise that part of this problem is because of our Sun iron (2400 pystones - my *iMac* does 4400, and a PIII 500MHz does 5500), but as I can't get this site onto another box in the near future, I'm after other ideas. Can anyone give me some pointers (even just rule of thumb) to improve the response time? I was going to set the threads to be something like 32, but I've read other posts suggesting that wouldn't help too much. Is there someway I can profile what's going on for example? Any thought gratefully received. tone

(hopefully)last GUF question: authentication but no permission

I think I finally have it! My GUF prompts me with a login prompt that asks for a username and pasword(I would rather use the docLogin, but for some reason it doesn't. ?) I type in a valid username and password, it validates it with the database, and I get this in my console: 2000-02-29T13:41:35 INFO(0) GUF Successful authentication for user august (http://vogel.fdns.net:8080/aspire/models/acl_users) But I get a message box back from Netscape, saying 'Authorization failed. Retry?'. When I press cancel, it says: Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Unauthorized You are not authorized to access docLoginSuccess. My user is grouped as 'Authoriser', which is the same proxy name that has permissions to Login and logout, access contents information, and Use Database Methods for just about everything in the acl_users directory, which is also where my SQL Methods are. programatically deleting ZClass instances?

Could someone send me a code snippet showing how to delete a ZClass instance? I've been trying to use manage_delObjects([ids, REQUEST]) - Delete a subordinate object. The objects specified in ids get deleted. without success. (If it matters, the ZClass instances I want to delete are children of a container ZClass.) I'd even settle for a DTML solution although I would like to see how to use the above method ... Cheers, Darran.

is dtml-in doing a dtml-with? How do I turn off that behaviour?

In that case any dtml-with that came after (even within one of those DTML Methods), would be screwed up, since you can't really descend into a method like you can a folder. ............... 2 Questions: ............... * Is there any way to turn off this dtml-with behaviour in dtml-in? * Or maybe my assumption is plain wrong? Seems like this behaviour should not be default. Like, if you really wanted a dtml-with, then you should explicitly call dtml-with right after the dtml-in. I wonder why it would be implemented this way? ............... 3rd Question: ............... Is there a reference manual out there that gives _real_ documentation of structured dtml? All I've found is sketchy examples. I want a very thourough/rigorus examination of every feature and every parameter of every dtml tag (namly dtml-in for now). You find this quality of documentation in some software API's. I can't seem to find anything even close for Zope. GUF vs. UserDb

GUF permissions and executing methods

I have set up a proxy user in my GUF that proxies the objects listed in the HOWTO in the GUF w/SQL Database. When I go to use the docLogin form, enter a username and password and press OK, it activates docLoginSuccess. Here is the line: <FORM ACTION="<dtml-var "docLoginSuccess">" method=post> But when I press the OK button I get an error because it passes docLoginSuccess into the URL line by line. Hi All, After struggling with Zope for two weeks now, I still can't figure some things out... From the namespaces HOWTO: --------------------------------------------------------------- Example: The Let Tag The Let tag let's you initialize and push a new name space onto the name space stack. The arguments to the Let Tag are evaluated and placed into the top most name space. For example: <dtml-let x=5 y=7> <dtml-var x><dtml-var y> </dtml-let> The let tag creates a new name space, enters the integers x and y into the new name space, and pushes the name space onto the stack. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Well, it just doesn't work! I get: Error Type: KeyError Error Value: 5 I've also tried <dtml-let x=5 y=7> <dtml-var x><dtml-var y> </dtml-let> just to be sure... What follows the = in the dtml-let tag must be either the name of a variable visible in the current namespace, or a python expression. In your <dtml-let x=5>, Zope is trying to find a variable named 5 and assign its value to x. Zope can't find a variable named 5, hence the KeyError. You need to use <dtml-let x="5"> so that the python expression 5 (an integer) is assigned to x. Likewise for y.
