i'm trying to convince my webhosting service that zope is a good thing. The guy there has some concern. Could anyone help me to convince him, or are his concerns valid? quickie question (date formatting)

I have a DATE time field in a mysql database, that by default returns a string representing the date in the format YYYY-MM-DD hh:mm:ss. Will the fmt modifier in the dtml-var tag understand this time format, so that I can re format it, or should I use SQL functions built into Mysql. Alternatively, I could select the epoch time version of the field from the database and then pass that to the dtml-var fmt string. absolute url on http url

If i go to: http://mymachine.com:8080/absolute_url i get that which i would expect; it returns the absolute url of that object. Why is it that when i go to: http://mymachine.com:8080/any/other/object/absolute_url I get a zope error? Does acquisition not work? sRp

how does dtml-if evaluate REQUEST variables?

Hello, when I try to evalute a REQUEST variable I get the following behaviour: <dtml-if entryid> evalutes true when http://server/dtml.doc?entryid=0 is called. I thought 0 would evaluate to false. How can I tell dtml to evalute to false? Other then perhaps CORBA based middle layers I don't know of any way to achieve this ideal though. It baffles me that this simple and obvious need is not being filled with today's technology. Especially considering the myriad of languages that each part of the enterprise is using. Javascript on the browser ==> Python/PERL on the web server ==> C/C++/Java business layer ==> PL/SQL or other proprietary language on the database. Of course if SUN cared enough to make the applet a viable technology all of our problems would be solved. We could use Java on every layer (including the database server if you are using oracle). Domain-restriced anon access AND user restricted directories.

I am trying to setup access to my zope server so there is anonymous (but domain-restricted) access to folders except for those which have user list in acl_users. I have tried the followng setting this up so that AnonDomain is a role and AnonDomainUser is a user in the root acl_users with role=AnonDomain and an empty password. I then turn off all Anonymous role permissions and move them to the AnonDomain role on the root folder security tab. Then in /Projects/TestProject, I have a whole set of users. There is no anonymous access to TestProject. When someone from the right domain brings up the root folder, they match to AnonDomainUser but when they try to bring up TestProject, their username and password are consistently rejected (even though they are correct). (Note: correct users are part of the Developer role which does have the correct permissions.) If I then go back to the security panel of the root folder and give the Anonymous role just the capability to view, they can then login properly and access TestProject, but then I have lost the domain filtering on anonymous viewers. Has anyone out there got both anonymous domain restricted access and user authentication on certain directories? Does anyone have any idea why this isn't working for me? Rename the STX_Document to 'index_stx', and then try various hacks at to render it within a "generic" 'index_html' DTML Method: - '<dtml-var index_stx>' doesn't render correctly - Nor does '<dtml-var "_.render( index_stx )"> - '<dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect( 'index_stx' )">' does, but it munges the URL as visible to the user. 2. Make the STX_Document class "renderable": - Add a new ZClass, RSTX_Document to the product, subclassing from the Renderable base class in Lalo's "Renderable product":http://www.zope.org/Members/lalo/RenderableZClass and from CatalogAware (in that order). - Copy the property sheets and methods from STX Document, and duplicate the Views tab. - Copy and paste the 'index_html' method and rename the copy to 'render'. - Add an RSTX_Document named 'index_html' to a folder.
