Well, I just moved my zope to a Solaris box rebuilt with gcc. I'm now able to CONSISTENTLY get this thing to crash. What i do is point a couple of wgets at the box to recursively snarf up pages. This doesn't seem to cause any problems (yet) Then with my browser, I try and load up some pages. Usually, within four or five attempts at loading pages, BAMM zope starts eating up CPU cycles and within two minutes zope crashes... And this is what the debugger tells me: Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. Variable as record type or dictionary

Hi Zopists! I need to copy a record from into a <dtml-in> tag to use it later. Suppose: "Client" is a select ZSQL method (select * from Client where <dtml-sqltest client_num type=string>). ---- <dtml-in "Client(client_num='2345')"> copy the retrieved record in a variable </dtml-in> ---- "OrderLine" is a insert ZSQL method: insert into OrderLine (order_num,client_num,client_name,client_address,...,product_num,...) values (<dtml-sqlvar order_num type=string>, insert the column "client_num" from the previous retrieved Client record, insert the column "client_name" from the previous retrieved Client record, insert the column "client_address" from the previous retrieved Client record, ..., <dtml-sqlvar product_num type=string>, ...) ---- Registering the order lines... <dtml-call "OrderLine(order_num='OR4567',product_num='PENCIL-0067')"> <dtml-call "OrderLine(order_num='OR4568',product_num='PEN-BLUE-8')"> <dtml-call "OrderLine(order_num='OR4569',product_num='PENCIL-0045')"> <dtml-call "OrderLine(order_num='OR4570',product_num='PENCIL-0023')"> <dtml-call "OrderLine(order_num='OR4571',product_num='PEN-BLCK-1')"> <dtml-call "OrderLine(order_num='OR4572',product_num='PEN-031')"> ---- Take in mind that I can't put the ZSQL method "Client" inside the ZSQL method "OrderLine" because the Client method needs about 10 seconds to execute and if every "OrderLine" method needs his time plus 10 seconds (from the "Client" method) this can take over one minute for the above example order. This is not viable! Awaiting 15 seconds to place the order is acceptable but over one minute isn't. The solution is to execute the "Client" method only one time. ZCatalog of method output

I read you could define a ZClass instance's method as a field-index of a ZCatalog; but it's not working for me. The DTML method dept_code is simply: <dtml-return "_.string.split(jobcode,'-')[0]"> When I call the method directly it returns a single character, the first character of the jobcode. The method dept_code is defined as a field-index of the ZCatalog JobsCat. But when I access JobsCat thus: <dtml-in "JobsCat(meta_type='Job Opening', sort_on='dept_code')"> <li> <a href="<dtml-var "JobsCat.getpath(data_record_id_)">"> (<dtml-var dept_code>) <dtml-var jobcode>: <dtml-var title></a> </dtml-in> the items are not sorted, and dept_code is null. Documentation issues ... cloning folders into instances

<frustration> I'm finding myself again trying to figure out how things work in Zope, just to find out at the end that it is MUCH simpler that I thought -- but totally undocumented! Or maybe I just haven't looked for it enough ... Isn't there somewhere a list of all method calls I can use from DTML (like manage_addXYZ)? It can't all be just trial and error or "read the code". -- Yes it can, but I don't want to be that pessimistic ;-) O.k., my current problem is that I have a folder with icons and images in a ZClass that should be copied to all new instances of the class. There seems to be a "manage_clone" call for that (just read about it in a posting), but how does it work and where do I find any documentation on it? As all those methods are in the namespace, isn't there at least a trick to get a list of all names to print out? That would be a first start. I mean, I had to figure out every single call like manage_addDTMLDocument or manage_changeProperties by trial and error. That makes Zope so much less efficient that it could be ... </frustration> Joachim Werner.

Zope/Interbase/ODBC resolution

This would happen whenever I entered the web management interface, and at other times when I could not identify a cause. I then had to shut Zope down and restart it. Zope would not allow the ODBC connection to be made otherwise. I was using the much older Visigenic driver because the Intersolv driver truncated varchar fields (a known bug). However, recently I joined the Interbase mailing list, and one of the Interbase staffers suggested I retry the Intersolv driver and recast the varchar field as char to work round the truncation viz. select cast(myvarchar as char(n)) as myvarchar from foo; I am pleased to report that this works well, and over the last few days I have not observed a single disconnection. Furthermore, I have noticed that the very first use of the OBDC connection after Zope started always gave an error. This problem has also now disappeared. For interest, my experimental server is using a PII 300 overclocked to 450, 128Mb ram, NT4 server, and an IDE hard drive served on an ADSL connection. There are about 20,000 items in the ecommerce database. I am also using Interbase to do Zope session management. You can reach the server by using the url below ( a PHP script on my static server redirects to the ADSL box). I'll post an update if the situation changes. User quotas

Hi, 1- Is there a way to keep user quotas on Zope objects ?... I.e. restrict the amount of place a user can waste with its objects. I briefly looked at the list's archive but did not find the actual answer. 2- Is there a way to purge the ZODB object history (ie. not the cache but the older versions of each object) once I have a stabe "release" of my website ?... It would take less space on disk, and I suppose rendering will be faster. Thanks, P.-J. Grizel
