ZODBCDA problem partially solved

Within the last half-hour I posted that ZODBCDA connections were not working correctly on my machine, with Zope running as an NT service. I rebooted the computer and now the connection gets made. (I hadn't rebooted since I changed the user the service was supposed to be running as.) So with the Zope service running as me, rather than as the system, it seems fine. And now my problem is exactly the same as the one in the archives last year. This doesn't seem too serious, but if anyone knows why it cares who Zope is running as, I'd still like to know. creating dictionaries

Hello, I want to create a dictionary to eliminate some multiple occurences of data. I have two <dtml-in> tags and inside I want to add items to the dictionary: <dtml-let d="{}"> <dtml-in somesql1> <dtml-in somesql2> do something like: d[key]=value </dtml-in> </dtml-in> do something with the resulting dictionary... </dtml-let> so far so good. But how to I add items to the dictionary? <dtml-call "d[key]=value"> gives me syntax error. Thank you! Tino Wildenhain

Problem with ZODBCDA

I just installed ZODBCDA on a new Windows install of Zope 2.1.4 using ZServer running as an NT service. After editing db.py to fix the THUNK typo (I've submitted that to the collector) it sees the System ODBC DSNs that exist, and it lets me pick one. But when I try to open the connection, it tells me I have an invalid connect string. The weird thing is that I turned on Windows ODBC tracing, and NOTHING is being logged from the Zope connection. So I don't think it is actually passing anything to ODBC. If I do the same thing from some other ODBC client, the connect string works and the session gets logged by the ODBS tracer. There was a very similar problem in the list archives several months ago, and it seemed that running the service as a user, instead of the system, fixed the problem. Didn't work for me. Any suggestions on how to track this down further, or better yet to fix it, would be appreciated. All, Have been trying to add File Attachment functionality to the ZDiscussions Product. Thus far, I have modded the ZDiscussions.py file, specifically the ZDItem class's __init__ method, to accept one extra parameter called file. The corresponding DTML-Method (postForm) within the ZDiscussion object has been modded to include a FILE input field. To facilitate the file handling, I am using the Squishfile.py module. All is working well, and via a new def attachment(self) method that was added to the ZDiscussion.py module, I am able to return the file to the browser. Herein lies the problem. Getting Zope to dump core...

I haven't proved this, but I suspect that when a fork()ed child dies it does not dump a core file. Since debug mode does not cause Zope to fork off Zope as a child from the parent watchdog, a core file is produced. None of this is mentioned on the fork() man page, or the clone() man page, or whatever. I probably need a good UNIX programming reference to verify it. Give it a try, fire up Zope in debug mode and run your load scripts against it to reproduce your segfault. -Michel

Subclassing ZObjectManager in ZClasses

Hello, I've been playing with ZClasses and I ran into an issue with ZObjectManager. Summary: (when creating a folderish ZClass and cascading base classes) if ZObjectManager isn't subclassed at 1st level, objects can be added to the folderish ZClass instances but they don't show in the manage_main object list. [Zope 2.1.4 on Win32, pure ZClasses, no Python around] More details: 1) I first tried this simple setup. It worked fine:

XML-RPC Woes

Hi i've spent the day trying to make this work so i thought i'd see if brighter minds could illuminate the darkness of my night. I'm trying to setup an email archiving system in Zope. I've got the email retrieval setup in an separate python script and a couple of ZClasses setup in Zope to archive/catalog the emails. My problem is getting the parsed email info(to, from, body, etc) from the external script into my Zclasses. i've tried xml-rpc but i keep getting server errors. i connect to the server and try zope.project.archive.addEmail(id) but i keep getting a 500 Internal server error message. addEmail is just a wrapper around the constructor which expects only one parameter the id of the email Zclass object to create( just something to debug before i pass in all the params). So what gives? i can call the method from the web with http://localhost/project/archive/addEmail?id=xx but how do you call a dtml method with args from xml-rpc. fyi i'm using amos's patched xmlrpclib for authentication (i fixed the import errors) i've trying to reimplement this as a xmlrpc call to an external method but i would really like to know how to do it with xml-rpc and dtml. OK, I went to the website http://cvs.zope.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/ZopePTK/PTKDemo/DemoPortal.zexp and downloaded DemoPortal.zexp, but it does not work on my Zope 2.1.4. Do I need the latest version of Zope in CVS?
