Help, perhaps somebody from DC can help me swiftly? Is it possible to use your own manage_afterAdd method in a ZClass which is a descendant of CatalogAware Class? If so, how can you get this done? Does there exist something like 'inherited manage_afterAdd', like in other Object languages (eg Delphi?) : eg: def manage_afterAdd .... <blablabla my stuff blabla> inherited (and does now performs the method from the parent class) this doesn't seem to work : def manage_afterAdd ... <my stuff> catalogAware.manage_afterAdd ... Two web servers

Hi, Problem: I have two web servers on one machine. The first uses the standard port (80) the second (Zserver) uses port 8080. How can I point to a page on the first server from the second? Given: hostname: monica.usc.edu I've tried: href="//monica.usc.edu:80/... Results: * The page delivered to the browser has the site name including the ":80" stripped off. * Any foreign site name is NOT stripped off. Larry

AS400, DB2 and Zope

I am putting together a proposal for a steel, cooper and plastics manufacturer based out of Germany, but with a large IT shop in Detroit. They are looking at Uniface Web Application Server, from Compuware, to do their web work. Although they approached me for my Uniface expertise, they seem open minded toward Zope. This is their first experience building an application on the internet. Thier data is stored in a DB2 database on an AS400. While I have used DB2, that has only been on MVS (don't the call it OS/390 now?, am I dating myself?), and I was never the DBA. They seem to be open minded about the operating system for deploying the web application server, but I suspect that they will want to use Solaris. I gues I am nervous because I don't know what I need to know, and I don't have a AS400 laying around to play with. Is ODBC an option for talking to DB2 on an AS400 from a Solaris box running Zope? How about from a linux box running Zope? Has anyone heard the news on the OCI-based driver that DC promised "real soon now" at the IPC8? Does anyone have that working? I am going to pitch Zope and this project proposal on March 17. There is a lot of money on the line, I appreciate any assitance and my memory is long. If appropriate, please resond to me in private. manage_upload question

Hi everyone, I've got a page where I'd like to have a person update a file object without going throught the management interface. The manage_upload method would seem to be just the ticket, but I can't figure out how to call it with a regular hypertext link. I want to have a link that says "Update" and call manage_upload on a particular file object when it's clicked. Zope Documentation Project (ZDP) Announcement

Dear Zopistas, The Zope Documentation Project is pleased to announce the availability of the new zdp.zope.org website, which aims to give the Zope community an additional place for sharing knowledge, and for working together on providing good Zope documentation. The new ZDP homepage already contains many useful resources for the Zope community, which for the most part complement the already existing types of documentation available on zope.org. We sincerely hope that Digital Creations will play an active role in the Zope Documentation Project and help merging the existing Zope documentation with the documentation provided via ZDP. To see what Digital Creation's Plans for Zope Documentation are, have a look at: http://www.zope.org/Members/Amos/Documentation/Plan When we built the new ZDP site, great emphasis was placed on providing ways to easily get aware of what is new on the site and to quickly get an overview of what pieces of documentation need Maintainers, Writers, Commenters and Reviewers. Thereby contributors are directed to the documents and projects that need help. Everyone can contribute according to their interest and level of experience. We invite you to join the ZDP and to help building up a great knowledge base on Zope. This also includes helping to customize and extend the ZDP-Tools, which is the software with which the ZDP site was built and on which it runs. The ZDP-Tools are being developed on-site, and are completely written in DTML to allow for rapid through-the-web programming. It is very stable, indeed, so I take that back. ;-) There are cases where I have been forced to kill Zope processes that have falled into some sort of coma, but I've written these off as growing pains in an evolving product. ;-) To date, Zope's stability problems seem to have been mostly related to fragile database drivers. I was really thinking of something else, and should have used another phrase -- something like "high availability". Again, I have only read the marketing material on ZEO, the product that supposedly provides such features (load balancing, replication). Setting attribute from DTML method in ZClass

Hi, I've created a ZClass with a method 'force_update'. When a user is viewing an object, there is a formbutton which they can press and force_update is then called. So far it works. What I want my force_update to do, is that it should set the needs_check (type boolean) in the object to true. With <dtml-if needs_check> I print different things depending on whether the object needs a check. From the Property sheet I can change the settings. So, how do I put something like this().needs_check = 1 in a dtml-method? Greetings, Chris Niekel

Simple Z Search Question - lost something while renaming

I'm trying to determine what might have failed in a Z Search generated set of objects. I used the Z Search wizard to create the search interface and tabular report. They ran fine. I then renamed the data source (odbc) and both the Z Search generated objects. I made sure that the input form reflected the new report name. Now the input form will come up but when attempting to search I get a "Object Doesn't Exist" type error. I've also recreated the tabular report and it's input form with the Z Search interface, and of course they work. I think the problem is with the report as the original input form will sucessfully populate the recreated report. What's interesting is that a compare of the text in the original vs the new Z Search created report object show that they contain identical text. I've also used Z Search to creat a similar "record" format pair of objects that seem to endure any number of renamings, which is puzzling too. I think that there are some variables hidden away, properties, whatever, that I can't get to. This is probably pretty transparent to everyone, but it's a bit of a stumper for me. In general this is a useful experiment as it's obviously very important to know what effect name changes will have. The docs state something to the effect that it's not too wise to change names, but I've also seen that some name changes are propagated. So it would be great to know what the pattern is. Maybe it's as simple as "rename at your own risk". Thanks Michael Simcich AccessTools
