ADO Database Connections

Has anyone done any work in making database connections via ADO/OLEDB or JDBC in JAVA? I do not know what would be involved but there has been allot of work in this area from a performance standpoint. Both JDBC and ADO are widely supported on many platforms and both provide native database functionality via native drivers. Is there a way for ZOPE to utilize ADO/OLDB or JDBC via a python component (maybe implemented as LOCAL STORAGE(ZEO))? Is there a way to provide Database Connection Pooling (add/remove DB connections based on application usage?) Lack of support for Native database functionality in ZOPE is a major drawback and getting every DB vendor to code Python Drivers for ZOPE doesn't seem reasonable from a maintenance standpoint on both sides of the coin(developer/database manufacturer). Coding a DB connection manager to an "DB DRIVER standard"(I use the term loosely) would provide better long term support and flexibility. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. Theodore E. Hello, I am pleased to announce the release of ZServerSSL 0.04. ZServerSSL provides a HTTPS server for Zope. In normal operation, ZServerSSL protects user names, passwords and data in transit against eavesdropping. This release of ZServerSSL presents a significant enhancement: X.509 certificate-based authentication for Zope. In this mode, Zope is run in "remote user" mode, and ZServerSSL's HTTPS server is configured to *require* user certificates. When a user connects, ZServerSSL handles certificate verification, maps the user certificate's "subject distinguished name" to a Zope username and sets REMOTE_USER accordingly. Zope's REMOTE_USER machinery takes care of the rest. Given valid user certificates and mappings from certificates to Zope users, Zope no longer requires passwords for access. This improves site security by removing the need to store passwords on the Zope site. This mode of operation can be adapted to other HTTPS servers like Apache+SSL, Roxen+SSL, etc. that perform certificate-based authentication. Newbie date/time + MySQL problem

Greetings folks, I've got a record in an SQL database that contains a date field (2000-02-25 for example). I'm generating a table from an SQL query. The bit that displays the date is pretty simple: <dtml-var date null=""> I want to format the date into something a little more readable (like 'Feb 25, 2000' for example). I've been trying to figure out how to use the date-time format functions mentioned in the DTML guide in Appendix A. It mentions the special variable _, which provides a method for constructing date time values from strings and numeric data. I think my question is really a matter of syntax, as the DTML guide doesn't provide any examples of usage in Appendix A. Would I use something like: <dtml-var _.aCommon(date) null=""> ? Any help would be greatly appreciated, Jeff

encoding in XMLDocument

Hi all, here is my 1st question for my 1st day in this list (hope i will be able to provide answers in a few weeks) : I'm currently trying to implement a news site digest using RSSChannel, but i'm in trouble with encoding. When it fetches an xml file encoded in ISO-8859-1, the output is in UTF-8 (unreadable for us west europeans). Hi: How i can repeat a string n times. For example in perl i can do: "*" x $score ($score is a integer) and if $score=10 i have ********** . I tried use it for make histograms. Hi: I tried to pass a variable to the the third method. Example: My first DTML METHOD method_1 (the form) ... <form action="method_2"> <input name="var"> <input type="Submit" value="OK"> </form> ... method_2 (the action and another form> ... <form action="method_3"> <dtml-let cube="var*var*var"> <p> The cube of <dtml-var var> is <dtml-var cube> </p> [main_problem] </dtml-let> <input type="submit" value="Save?"> </form> ... method_3 (insert in the db) insert into cubos (x, xxx) values(var,cube). My problem is build [main_problem]. I know that can be: 1. <input name="varx" value="<dtml-var var>"><input name="cubex" value="<dtml-var cube>"> in this case i need to change method_3 to insert into cubos (x, xxx) values(varx,cubex). Anybody can chance the value of thes variables. This isn't a good solution. 2. I can use Select <select name="varx"> <option value="<dtml-var var>"><dtml-var var> </select> <select name="cubex"> <option value="<dtml-var cube>"><dtml-var cube> </select> in this case i need to change method_3 to insert into cubos (x, xxx) values(varx,cubex). too hard... 3. the solution 1. and 2. is too hard. www.zope.org?

Perhaps I've missed something, but why is www.zope.org redirecting to ZDNet? yyy.zope.org and www.zope.com work fine, but for some reason, this is the HTML I get when trying to load www.zope.org: <HTML> <HEAD> <META HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" CONTENT="0; URL=http://www.zdnet.com/cc/forums.html"> <TITLE>test refresh</TITLE> </HEAD> <BODY></body> </HTML> What gives? -CJ
