Collector Status Update

Working through the Collector, I have seen a need to separate out the patch for a bug from its description: for instance, the description is formatted using newline_to_br, which breaks any patch to Python code; patches need to be formatted inside <PRE> tags. I therefore added a shiny new "Patch" field, and will work on migrating those bugs/features with patches to move the patch. In the future, please stuff actual patches into this field (use 'diff -c' by preference). Results of the experiments so far (thanks for all the help) If you set the RESPONSE variable as follows (which I suspect sets a mime type whcih my browser doesn't recognise) then IE 5 will download the file for you. If the DTML method that contains this code is called something.csv then Excel will happily open up the file as a spreadsheet (I'm getting some blank lines at the top though). Interestingly this also works with Netscape 4 on a Mac, though Netscape gives you the extra option of opening the file directly with an application. However if you do this then Excel doesn't recognise the commas and each line of output goes into one column. hmmm. If you save the file to disc then you have to open the file from within Excel as the Mac doesn't recognise the Windows .csv file extension. What I don't know is how you tell the Mac its an Excel file (anyone ???) Here's a sample of code that works <dtml-call "RESPONSE.setHeader('Content-Type', 'application/x-csv')"> <dtml-in Org_search> <dtml-if sequence-start> Name,Town,Post code,Telephone,Org.code </dtml-if sequence-start> <dtml-var name null="">,<dtml-var town null="">,<dtml-var post_code null="">,<dtml-var telephone null="">,<dtml-var code null=""> </dtml-in> Note that any spaces or newlines are interpreted by Excel so you have to run things together on one line as I have done. Interestingly if you leave out the setting of RESPONSE then IE5 opens up Excel inside the browser (if the DTML method is called something.csv, though as with the Mac it doesn;t format it properly, everythig is in one column). I think I need to research the mime types properly now (unless anyone else has any ideas ?) Hi Robert - Zope itself has a little bit easier time dealing with this, since the win32 binary distribution contains its own Python binary. The root of the problem is that by default, IO is done in *text mode* (which as you've seen, means that win32 will helpfully translate all \n's to \r\n's for you). Zope's bundled Python binary uses binary mode by default, mainly because at the time we began shipping a bundled binary you couldn't set the mode manually from Python. As of 1.5.2 though, you can. I think that adding the following at the beginning of your code (before anything goes to sys.stdout) should take care of your problem: # If on windows, set the line-end translation mode # to binary to avoid unintended help from windows. # If we're not on windows, msvcrt will fail to import # and it won't matter. try: import sys, os, msvcrt msvcrt.setmode(sys.stdin, os.O_BINARY) msvcrt.setmode(sys.stdout, os.O_BINARY) msvcrt.setmode(sys.stderr, os.O_BINARY) except: pass Hope this helps! Acquisition bug with ZSQL in 2.1.6

Hi all It looks like named arguments provided to ZSQL methods in Zope 2.1.6 are incorrectly hidden by other objects with the same id in the acquisition tree. In replacing <dtml-sqlvar AttributeHash type=string> with <dtml-var AttributeHash>, I discovered that the external method was in fact being used, rather than the value of AttributeHash that was being passed to the ZSQL method: File /usr/local/Zope-2.1.6-src/lib/python/Products/ExternalMethod/ExternalMethod. py, line 248, in __call__ (Object: AttributeHash) (Info: ((), {}, None)) TypeError: (see above) Renaming the external method, or the argument passed to the ZSQL method, both fixed (masked :-) the problem. I've also confirmed that this happens in a minimal test setup, with DTML documents instead of external methods, and with any number of arguments. I'm pretty certain this is a bug, possibly a result of one of the acquisition bugfixes made in 2.1.5 or 2.1.6; can anyone else confirm this happening? Running Zope as an NT Service

Zope 2.1.6 works fine when installed to a FAT partition, but when installed to a NTFS partition, it won't run as a service. I have to run it manually. If I try to start it as a service from the NT services control panel, I get an access denied error. I believe I saw a mention of this issue on the list a while ago and it has to do with medusa wanting to use 127.9.9.9 or somesuch as a loopback address, which confounds windows and makes it think you want to connect to something extralocalhost (which btw i understand it shouldn't). I'm guessing, but I imagine you can change occurances of 127.9.9.9 (or whatever it is) to 127.0.0.1 within medusa and see it start to work properly.
