Newbie alert! Frustration right off the bat...

and so it starts... I'm determined to learn zope for my next project and can't even get past the tutorial. Using zope v.2.16 on windows. I get to the part where I create the 1st DTML method (index_html) and zope reports an error: Error Type: Bad Request Error Value: the id index_html is invalid - it is already in use. This is in a virtually empty system. I suspect that the problem is in initializing the tuturial. I suspect further that the tutorial text and graphic figures don't jibe. The beginning of the tutorial says to create the ZAcme folder under my root installation. I take this to mean at the main manage entry point, rather than my literal root directory (as it says further down the page). When I do this, the ZAcme folder shows up in the workspace but the illustrations don't show this. I continue along and end up getting the above error. I also tried manually creating folders in my actual root directory (C:\) and in the zope directory (C:\Program Files\ZAcme) and I get the above error every time. Help! TIA Rob

ZPatterns 0.3.0

Hi Guys, I was trying to setup ZPatterns 0.3.0 and I got up to making the extension DynPersistc. I had run "make -f Makefile.pre.in boot" and then I ran "make" but an error occured saying that ExtensionClass.h couldn't be found. If anyone knows what is wrong I would much appreciate it. The only other thing I can tell you (and I don't know if it means anything) is that it seemed to be looking for ExtensionClass in teh <Zopeinstall>/lib/Components dir and there is no Components dir there, perhaps I need to add something to my Zope install. Selling Enhydra? Could they do this to Zope?

They are basically selling a "boxed" version of Enhydra (a Open Source Java Web Application Development Environment) and support. I guess this fits into the Red Hat / Linux model but would it work for Zope? Good? Bad? BTW: 2.0b1 is great. WebDav works well (although not sure what it gives beyond FTP and the management interface). I have not done any benchmarks but... might. J

OT: Manual unique sequences in RDBMS

Hello Zopistas, This is a little off-topic but I had no other place to ask. I'm using Zope & PostgreSQL together on a intranet accounting system (BTW, it's Open Source and I'll post it soon.) Anyway, I have several tables related by ids (keys), and I have to create these keys by myself. They're of the form YYYYMMDDCCCCCC (Y: year, M: month, D: day, C: a consecutive transaction number that I must generate) and they must be unique. Of course, from day to day, these numbers are guaranteed to be unique, my problem relies on Intra-Day-Uniqueness (TM). How could I generate the consecutive part? Unfortunately, I can't use the underlaying RDBMS auto-numbering or auto-sequence feature. Since the keys _must_ conform to the above scheme. All I can count on is on the database rows (an ideal solution would be conceptually independent of both Zope and PostgreSQL). I was even thinking of having a separate table having the last transaction number stored in a single row which would be updated by locking the table... just a thought. how to access stored file data?

Hi Folks, OK I am progressing slowly. But I am stuck again. I have created a ZClass which is a subclass of CatalogAware and File. I have created an index_html view and mapped it in the Views tab to the View "category" if that's the right word. The purpose is that when the Instance's URL is enterd, information about the file will be displayed. On this page I want a link which will enable download or viewing of the file. I get the same problem. A SQL method of mine is apparrently accessible from within a DTML method but not from within another SQL method. (I do this to determine if a record exists before overwriting it). I also have an external method that augments query objects with special grouping records. BETA BUG Authorization Bug!!

Greetings, I have just finished upgrading to the beta version and am having this error show up in the Netscape browser window. IT occurs when I try to query an odbc database. Am using NT and Access database. Any ideas to fix or should I go back a version. The error listed is Authorization failed retry, Please re-enter password for host.
