Cookie Question

Hello. Here's what I'm trying to do: <dtml-if "REQUEST.cookies['cookie_name']"> ... do something using data from the cookie ... </dtml-if> This syntax, though, continually throws errors--a key error on 'cookie_name'. I've tried nesting the dtml-if statements within <dtml-with REQUEST></dtml-with> statements. What am I doing wrong? What concept am I missing? Rob Pratt rpratt(a)wordandsound.com

On the list I've often seen complaints about <dtml-in foo sort=blah.... > not being dynamic enough. I cooked up a solution some time ago "Zieve", but the first release required each user to get a cookie to store their preferred sort order, and to rank sort order according to the history of their clicks. Zieve-0-1-0 still allows that behavior, but no longer requires it. Below is the current REAME. Let me know if it works for you! Since cookies are not needed you can drop a Zieve in at the root of your project and acquire it anywhere below that. It can then be called on as sort of a 'helper' to sort in all sorts of situations. You can sort on any attributes, in any order. clarification neede: postgresDA, SQL method cache and connection pool

hello again after the bad experience yesterday, i want to scale my site so that i don't face the same problems again. ZEO would do that. but not now. not when i don't know much about zope and zeo. but before that comes, i'd like to store data in a RDB (postgres) and split the frontend into two or more but accessing the same RDB. that way, i can split user access, give faster response, get more users.what's the pros? cons? my Q: can the gurus spare some time and clarify the database connection pool (?) per zope thread(postgres specifically). and how is cache handled? i've seen errors saying that the object is not in cache. is this related to the connection per thread? --traceback---- File /home/kdie/Zope/lib/python/Shared/DC/ZRDB/DA.py, line 389, in _cached_result (Object: qry_msg_thread) KeyError: ('select *\012from msg\012where \012par_id=188\012', 1000) ------------ is this a good way of approaching the problems? or is there a better way? thanks. -- ------------------------------------------------------ http://www.kedai.com.my/kk Am I Evil?

How to deal with MySQL's LAST_INSERT_ID() sensibly?

As far as I understand from the MySQL manuals, the value of LAST_INSERT_ID() is maintained on a per-connection basis (wish it would be per-connection/per-table; a LAST_INSERT_ID(<table_name>) would make much more sense in combination with table locking, but anyway..). I have a number of ZSqlMethods and Python methods that share a DB connection. I see two kinds of possible race conditions here: 1. Queries to different tables occur simultanously and affect the value of LAST_INSERT_ID(). This could propably be solved by creating multiple connections for each different kind of INSERT command. 2. Multiple requests trigger the same query which leads to confusion. My question is if 2. is really a possible problem. I don't know enough about database adapters and Zope threading. Are queries serialized by DB connections or by SQL Methods? I wonder how others deal with that issue. Maybe I should renounce using auto increment values at all, and maintain my own counters in the runtime state. But how to make these thread safe? SQL Database, automatic form for editing and more

Hello, I am trying to put up an intranet for my company. I have the option of buying notes but i am trying to convice the team that we can replace it with a variaty of open source programs. So far i have: PGPnet, PGPDisk, Cyrus IMAP, MySQL, CVS. What i am missing is a platform to develop custom solutions, to put Customer Relationship management and training and to share resources. So, geting back to Zope: 1) I want to put in a folder documents and have ftp on that so users can share files. (Better than nfs or smb, i think). This way the same documents are also available on the site. 2) i want to be able to use databases for rapid development of aplications. Like for example, i have a table and automaticaly have the forms and pages to edit and display the table. So, to go deeper in point 2. The idea is to have lost of "objects" in tables (i want to have external access), and an editor (like the Microsoft Access table listing). Then if i want, i can build more specific editors, but i need to be able to have a generic editor for all the data. 3) Replication, i will have sites acros latin america and i want them to access the closest server in their country, so they dont have to wait. Does ZEO work? Thanks in advance. If anyone has any opinion or tought besides using zope, id like to hear them the same. Lucio.

If the file is on another server, there is going to have be be some way for Zope to fetch the file before it can serve it, for example by uploading the file through the browse button in the add file screen. --RDM PS: this is definately more suited to the zope list than the zope-dev list (the latter being for product developers and the like), so I've changed the cc accordingly.

Stupid Question Time

I think if I can get an answer to a stupid question it may go along way to opening my eyes to Zope. I need to understand the use of ',",(),[]. I think when you use single quote ' - it means to take as literal - don't interpret. Eg. 'A+R' is taken as A+R and is not calculated. But as for the others, I do not know how or when to use them. Anybody have the patience to answer this?
