Manage users

Hello, I have a folder with an user folder inside. I've defined a user who has only restricted access to that folder (role dummy). Nevertheless I want to allow this user to create new users. But that new users shall only have maximum the same rights like he himself, thus he shouldn't be allowed to create managers or so, but only users with role dummy or with less rights. How do I do that? I only found the permission "Manage users" which includes also creating managers. Just in case you haven't found out by now: ;-) That's happening because "getitem" expects an object id (not a complete path) as a parameter. There is no object with the id "French.Folder1" in the namespace. What you want to do is traverse to an object, given its path as a string parameter. There are two built-in functions that do that, "restrictedTraverse" and "unrestrictedTraverse". unrestrictedTraverse will bring you to an object even if there are objects "on the way" that you are not allowed to access. "restrictedTraverse" on the other hand (usually the preferred one) will check for sufficient rights on every object along the path. Afaik, these two functions take the object's path as a string parameter, where the object ids themselves are separated by slashes. Try this out: Create a python script "goto" :-o holding this single line: (parameter: path) --------------------------------------- return context.restrictedTraverse(path) --------------------------------------- Now you should be able to get to your "subfolder object" by calling: <dtml-with expr="goto(nodename)"> Keep in mind that this time your object ids have to be separated by a slash (e.g. "French/Folder") If you want the same functionality with dots (because you have already set up everything to work "the dot way" :-)), you would change the script to: (parameter: path) --------------------------------------- from string import replace path_to_object = replace(path, '.', '/') return context.restrictedTraverse(path_to_object) --------------------------------------- There's one obvious problem with this: you can't use dots in an id. But this should only be the case with old - imported - *.html files, anyway... (un)restrictedTraverse will start "getiteming" the specified object ids starting from the object you called the function on. So if you only need this functionality in your (folderish) "Lang" object for example, you could put the script in there and change "context.restrictedTraverse" to "container.restrictedTraverse". Then the traversal will always start in "Lang". This way you will also avoid conflicts with other objects having the same ids. Let's say you have the following directory structure: /-+-Lang-+-English +-French-+-Folder +-Folder2-+-Folder-+-French-+-myObject +-... +-... +-... +-... +-goto (Python Script) In this case, the "context.restrictedTraverse()" version might not do what you intended when you call "myObject", because after finding "French" - too early - it will find the wrong "Folder", where you might be expecting something that's not there... Here, the "container.restrictedTraverse()" version would be the better choice. "container" will _always_ be the _script's_ container, no matter where the script is called from. On the other hand, this "context" behavior might as well be exactly what you want to happen... :-) Hope this helps, Danny P.S.: I've CCed this to the Zope mailing list, cos I thought it might of interest for others with similar problems.

Hi Trevor, If I understand your question correctly, you want to send an image only when there one can be found under the UI . The problem here is, that img needs to have a src that points to a valid picture, otherwise you get an ugly empty picture symbol. I tried the following script which I think solves your problem: It has one parameter called UID return context[UID].data It is called as follows: <html> <body> <img src="http://localhost:8080/bevan/assets/pic?UID=halle.gif"> </body> </html> where bevan/assets is a folder with images. problem wrapping class Image!

Hi zopers!! I want to wrap the class Image (to check if the user has the permission to see the image) , but for some reason it doesn't work, and it doesn't send the image :-( what I do is very simple: class SImage(Image.Image, SFunctions.BaseClass): "SImage object" meta_type='SImage' def index_html(self, REQUEST, RESPONSE): """Redefine index to check for permission""" #self.Start() Image.Image.index_html(self, REQUEST, RESPONSE) the line self.Start() checks for permissions, I commented it out to make sure that wasn't the problem. so basically I just call the superclass index_html, like it's done in my Python book!, but it doesn't work. Mozilla shows the image url instead of the image, and wget tells me: /tmp> wget http://zopesite/trad/secret/aaa --19:13:04-- http://zopesite/trad/secret/aaa => `aaa.6' Connecting to zopesite:80... connected! HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK Length: 23,444 [image/jpeg] 0K 0% @ 0.00 B/s 19:13:04 (0.00 B/s) - Connection closed at byte 0. Retrying. ... and keeps trying with no result :-( if I get rid of the index_html method it works fine, so that's the problem. Can anybody help me? Thanks in advance (-:
