This should be easy, but I can't seem to make it work. With this statement: <dtml-var "webClient('http://192.168.107.8/SQL_Testing/Database_Test? clt_id=&dtml-clt_id;')"> I can't get the &dtml-clt_id variable to render. I've tried all sorts of variations from leaving out the ; to using the full <dtml-var> syntax and it still wont render. When I look at the request that is sent it looks like this: QUERY_STRING 'clt_id=&dtml-clt_id;' Why won't this work?!?! It seems like something REALLY simple, but I just can't get that thing to render right. Thanks, Rick

ZMI-based CMF features

Hi, I'd like to integrate some CMF-type features into the standard ZMI (Zope Management Interface). I want to do this for 2 reasons : 1. I'm lazy - the ZMI takes care of a lot of basic infrastructure, I don't want to code interfaces for everything 2. I like the ZMI interface Basically the CMF feature that I want most is Workflow. I downloaded DCWorkflow and a patch to make it work outside of a CMF site, so now my plan is to create some content types based on CMFCore:PortalContent and add some additional tabs and buttons to the ZMI to handle the Workflow features. So I have two questions to those with more Zen than I : 1. Can this work ? Is this a waste of time and effort ? 2. Has anyone done this already who would also be willing to share pointers and/or code ? cheers, Darcy Clark

Python script URL

I have been playing around with existing Python scripts and have found that I need to determine the URL of the script itself. Actually what I need is the equivalent of the URLx construct for the http Request object that works with for the URL of the script. My experience with Python is limited so I am probably missing something obvious -- can anybody provide a clue as to where I should start?

Help compiling Zope 2.4.1 from sources on OpenBSD 2.8, error can't make ISO_8859_1_Splitter

Hello folks. I am trying to get Zope to compile on OpenBSD 2.8. I have searched Google and found that people do in fact have ZOpe up and running on OpenBSD. First off, yes, I installed Python 2.1.1, and it runs no problem. I ran "python wo_pcgi.py", and it got a fair ways into the building process, and then died inside of a Makefile, with the following being the most interesting error output: /usr/local/lib/python2.1/config/makesetup -m Makefile.pre -c /usr/local/lib/python2.1/config/config.c.in Setup -n /usr/local/lib/python2.1/config/Setup.config /usr/local/lib/python2.1/config/Setup.local /usr/local/lib/python2.1/config/Setup make make: don't know how to make ././src/ISO_8859_1_Splitter.c. Stop Now, there's a folder called ISO_8859_1_Splitter but there's no C file. The path of the folder is ~postma/Zope-2.4.1-src/lib/python/Products/PluginIndexes/TextIndex/Splitter/ ISO_8859_1_Splitter Is this a case of me needing to Read a Million Pages of Documentation that I haven't read yet? What does it mean that it can't find this ISO_8859 file? Is there something I need to change in the configuration of Zope in order to get it to build on this platform? I built the full Python 2.1.1, I believe, so I have no idea what this file is that it wants. Warren

I would like to install this tool but as some of you know, there is a problem on Linux. On this message "http://groups.yahoo.com/group/zope/message/61753" says that I have to change the "rczope" and the "start" files. I made a "find" but I couldn't find it. Namespaces

Hi!!! I suppose this topic might not be mystery at all for all those who have been working with ZOPE for a while, but for me, as a beginner, it's really starting to look as a pain in the ***. The issue is namespaces. I've been dabbling across ZOPE documentation and help files, but somehow I never found an appropriate answer to my problem. Let me be more specific. Suppose I have all my files organized in the following directory tree: Work | |-- dmFiles | |-- sqlFiles | \-- pyFiles Consider that all my DTML Documents are located in the root directory (Work). DTML Methods, SQL Methods and Python Scritps are located respectively in the folders dmFiles, sqlFiles, pyFiles. So far so good... The problems start when I want to code one of the following situations: - call a Python Script (pyFiles folder) from a DTML Method (dmFiles folder); - call a SQL Method (sqlFiles folder) from a Python Script (pyFiles folder); What is correct code necessary to implement both this cases? Well, you have my curiosity now, so I dug around a bit. Partial output from uptime: Since 4/24/2000: System Availability: 99.8800% Total Uptime: 596d 0h:2m:30s Total Downtime: 0d 17h:10m:56s Total Reboots: 32 Mean Time Between Reboots: 18.65 days Total Bluescreens: 0 Note the Total Downtime includes scheduled downtimes, power outages (we had one that lasted for 5 hours last May), etc. The other output that I have not included indicates there were 9 "Abnormal Shutdowns". I hadn't noticed those, possibly because this machine hasn't been in production, just development. If I just look at the "Abnormal Shutdowns", mean time between reboots becomes 34 days. Not great, not bad. Mean Time Between Reboots includes multiboots due to multiple fix packs, security patches, etc. Yes, this is the downside of NT, but at least I could plan for it. I've had 23 planned shutdowns, 9 "Abnormal Shutdowns". So 32 reboots over 596 days isn't too bad for NT :) While I like linux better than windows (I've been using linux for 5 years), Zope on NT has been stable for me. Now, out of curiosity, I ran uptime on my two production servers, not running zope, but load balanced, so the site has higher uptime: server 1: Since 4/1/2001: (Last 255 Days) System Availability: 99.9606% Total Uptime: 255d 7h:53m:44s Total Downtime: 0d 2h:24m:50s Total Reboots: 42 Mean Time Between Reboots: 6.08 days Total Bluescreens: 0 Total abnormal shutdowns: 10 server 2: Since 4/1/2001: (Last 255 Days) System Availability: 99.9795% Total Uptime: 255d 9h:3m:39s Total Downtime: 0d 1h:15m:21s Total Reboots: 23 Mean Time Between Reboots: 11.11 days Total Bluescreens: 0 Total abnormal shutdowns: 3 Note these two are hosted at Exodus - lots of redundant power and bandwidth. Newbie Security Question....

O.K. I am a little confused as to what is the best way to set-up security. Here is the scenario.. I want to create a Small Community/Portal. I want a member to be able to register with basic info, select a User Name and password, and hit Submit. Now assuming that I can get that to work. Now What? Do I use Zope security? And If I do, do I have to manually enter each individual "User" into a, lets say "Member_Users" folder? Is it possible to automate to process? I know that I am probably getting ahead of myself here, but just trying to think this all the way through.. Any help from the Zope Gurus, or anyone for that matter that know more than I out there, would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Again, Brandon

reduce() not available in zope?

Hello, Today i wrote a little (internal) python script for manipulating lists. I first tried in pure python using reduce() and map() and it worked just fine. So, i copied my code to the zope python-script and tried it there. It said something like 'reduce not known'. When i changed my code to work without reduce() it worked fine again. But i didn't need to remove map(). Is there an explanation? br, stephan -- Mag. Handling of wrong URLS

Hello, I'm in the process of porting plain HTML pages to Zope. The bad thing is that the creators of the pages had the bad habit to spell their URLs with capital letters. Example: http://www.our-ugly-site.de/THIS/IS/AN/EXAMPLE.HTM I want to get rid of this and will replace it by: http://www.our-nice-site.de/this/is/an/example.htm But if users have bookmarks or something else they can not reach our new nice pages and so I wonder, if I could render a more informative page than Site Error An error was encountered while publishing this resource. Resource not found Sorry, the requested resource does not exist. Check the URL and try again. Resource: http://www.our-nice-site.de/THIS/IS/AN/EXAMPLE.HTM At first I could place a hint to the new convention. At second I wonder if I would implement a little script which converts the URL into lower case letters and suggest to try this one. Any idea how to do this? Kind regards Andreas.
