Hi, Is there a way to combine LocalFS with one of the wvWare based products (MSWordDocument,NuxDocument,DocumentLibrary,...) to automatically serve the MS docs in the LocalFS folder as either plain text or html. thanks Daniel Mahler

FTP/WebDAV & PUT_factory() & PUT()

While the list seems to be on the subject, I had a few quick questions... 1. What are the use cases for PUT() vs. PUT_factory? Does PUT() call the PUT_factory() to get an object then set it in the odb, or does PUT() call the PUT_factory() to get an object, set it in the odb, then call that object's PUT() method? Or do I have this all wrong? 2a. I want to do something fancy/tricky, like I have a container/folderish class instance called 'MyDocument' that really wasn't a document at all, but a container that contained a ParsedXML document with the actual document data. Suppose that you wanted to FTP put (replace or create) 'MyDocument', but actually have PUT() use the PUT() method of the ParsedXML doc inside 'MyDocument' (or failing parsing, upload it into a file object inside 'MyDocument' instead). If I understand correctly, PUT_factory() alone wouldn't do enough here; I would actually need to override PUT() as well. 2b. While on the subject, can one FTP put over an object subclassed from ObjectManager? 3. If I understand correctly, PUT_factory() could be used to determine the type that a document gets created as, trigger a CMF workflow state, or something equally as useful, but only for objects that do not already exist in the context/location of the ftp PUT - Is this right? 2.5B2 "anonymous" proxy role

Just upgraded to 2.5 beta 2, still having the same problem described in collector bug 47 But in any case, I went to edit my standard_html_header and I cannot save it. Even though I'm manager I get the dreaded "you do not have proxy role" And strangely enough the role "Anonymous" is in the list and highlighted for standard_html_header. Not sure how that got there, but the usual solution is to assign myself that role, then go clear the role from the object. But when I go to the root /acl_users, "Anonymous" is not a role that can be assigned. And it cannot be created as a local role because it's "already defined". So, I'm completely horked.. I have to delete, then recreate standard_html_header. Anyone know why the Proxy role "Anonymous" got assigned to my standard_html_header (which is not in the root) ? remote connection

I don't know how to describe this very well, but I need to make my RedHat Zope server connect to my Win2k Zope server and gain access to a database connection on the Win2k Zope server. Does that make any sense? We have a RH 7.1 server that I want to use as the front-end of our web site and I want everything to look like it's coming from that server, but my Win2k server is the only one that can connect to a certain database that we have. I don't want the Win2k server out there where the public can attack it so it will be on a seperate network that the RH server is connected to. Is there an easy way to do this? I've played with Zclient and is seems like it is used for connecting to non-zope machines. Does Zope have some built in hook for sharing resources? Thanks, Rick

"Publishing" static content

My client wants to use Zope to manage a website. They want Zope's security, acquisition, etc. This is for a site with completely static content. After the site looks good under Zope, they want to "publish" the content to another (offsite, timeshared) Apache webserver. This would be standard HTML after Zope processes it (no DTML), and regular images (GIF/JPG), Flash, and AVI files. The deal is, they want to use a webhosting service that does not offer Zope. Is there a way to do this? I understand that you'd need the Zope server to be there for any dynamic content, but this is for static content only. I'm think a button I push that "syncs" up the Apache webhosting server with the Zope content. The first problem I see is that objects in zope don't carry extensions, i.e., it's index_html, not index.html. The Apache server would use those extensions to come up with the MIME type (HTTP Content-Type header)--if the files from Zope don't have extensions, how will the Apache server know what kind of file it is (and not just serve it up under the default text/plain MIME type?) ZClass metatype question

Hi! I am creating a Product with several ZClasses based on ZObjectManager. Most of these are nested classes, so that class b is defined within class a and thus class b is only available in an instance of class a for addition. So far so good, but my problem is that within an instance of class b there should be other instances of class b and this only works if I create class b in the Product folder. There are several such cases and my selection of possible classes to add gets very large and is not manageable... Sadly I can not add class b as valid subobject - it does not show up on that list... I am now trying to override all_meta_types but I am currently not sure where to get the meta_data info from... Is there any way around this? Thank's in advance, Martin

I am using a typical lookup routine in a python script to find information about objects and return some of their properties. The method works great when you are making a comparison of strings. Dear all, I recognized that if more than one (big)query is started on the server at the same time (by multiple users) it tends to get extremly slow. Is there any way to avoid this ? Sebastian

login authentication problem

I have changed the security setting on my index_html to only allow authenticated users to view the page and added the following code to my homepage zope site (to display the username on the homepage):- <dtml-var expr="_.SecurityGetUser().getUserName()"> On some PC's this works fine and when you keyin your username and password the homepage is displayed (with the username shown). On other PCs however you are prompted to login but once you enter a valid username and password the homepage is displayed but the username shows as "Anonymous User". Zope has obviously validated the user but then somehow switched back to "Anonymous User". I have tried to change various security settings within the internet explorer browser (version 5) but cannot get it to show the correct user. Out of 5 PCs, 3 work correctly and 2 show Anonymous User. Any help would be appreciated Finbarr
