I've been managing static HTML sites for a long time, although none of them have been terribly ambitious, but I'm fairly new with Zope. My usual practice (which I think is pretty common and a good idea anyway), is to work on a website stored on a local server. Then, when the time comes to commit the changes, I upload the site. I'm attempting the same type of procedure with Zope: I have a local copy which I develop on, and I periodically try to upload content to a Zope account at my ISP (Imeme). The problem I'm running into, is that I now have some dynamically-created content on the site, which I don't want to lose. As designed, a "clobber" approach (i.e. upload over the existing site, replacing any files which have the same name), would work fine (the automatically generated files have predictable names and locations). But there doesn't seem to be an easy way to do this (well, you wouldn't *want* it to be too easy). My present procedure is pretty complicated -- I do an export locally, and then an import at the ISP. But I also have to export parts of the ISP version in order to incorporate them. I seem to be getting away with this now, but our site is going to become a lot more dynamic in the future. How can I make this easier? * Can I do a "clobber" type of import, like I could do with an FTP site, for example -- just replace the files I upload, but leave others intact? * Could I do a date-based export (i.e. export the objects that have changed since the previous upload, and overload that after I do my main import?) * Is there an "officially sanctioned zope method" for merging content from the local site into the new site? * Can I do something like this with ZEO? I know it's set up to do it automatically, but I want to do it only on demand, when I'm ready to commit my changes. * Can I write something in Zope/python to make it easier? (Well, obviously the answer is 'yes', but I'm looking for hints here :) ). * Could I somehow do this with CVS? I get the impression that Zope's change-control system is supposed to replace CVS, not work with it, but I'm very new at this. * I just saw something in the documentation about "sessions" which seems similar in concept, but I don't know if it's appropriate. I can't just use the FTP interface, because that wouldn't preserve object properties, without which my site would just fall apart. Please CC, as I receive this list in digest only. First I want to thank all the hard workers that have put all this planet-Zope together. I'm developing a simple template procedure for website presentations (with SVG and the internet I think we can forget powerpointlike presentantions for a while) using zope as THE server. Since my presentation is next friday, I'm creating something that works, but I'm not happy with it. The problem is: I have a couple of methods(DTML and Python)per presentation. The DTML receive as parameter the slide number and calls the python script that returns the name of the slide. Therefore, right now everytime that I want to setup a presentation I have to build two documents. I would like to build only one document per presentation: the python script. A general DTML method should receive two parameters (pResnetation and sLide) and create the page calling the appropiate python script. BUT, I cannot call the python script using the parameter pResentation like <dtml-var foo=expr"pResentation(sLide)">. So the topic question might be how can I receive a parameter using GET that represents a python scritp and call this script from the DTML method without using external scripts? Thanks in advance! You might want to consider trying to seperate the content and logic as much as possible, so that you avoid having to code anything to create a new presentation and/or slide. You could likely create a product using 2 ZClasses that represent a slide and presentation, without much more effort than what you are doing now. I think ou could even subclass file in a ZClass to create a custom SVG file object type that stored metadata about the slide, like its number and the presentation it belongs to in Property sheets. There is likely enough example information in the Zope Book and ZClass howtos on Zope.org to get you started. Also, if it helps, get the REQUEST object directly from your Python script with context.REQUEST['someformvalue']... newbie:merging acquisition results across multiple folders.

I'm trying to design my first Zope site (well three in parallel), and I'm stuck with how to merge acquisition results into a single result. The sites have some common content, and some private content that is specific to that site, so I've currently got:- /Content/Photos/{ph1001,ph1002...} /Hosts/site1/Content/Photos/{ph01,ph02...} /Hosts/site2/Content/Photos/{ph01,ph02...} The photos in /Content (ie. ph1001) should be available to both site1 and site2. The Photos in each site should be specific to that site. I was hoping that by using the same path (Content/Photos) that it would make it easier, it shouldn't matter to the rest of the site/presentation where the actual object came from, in fact I'd like for it to be transparent. I started off writing a python script to do the merging, but got stuck with traversing the hierachy (I'd want a generic script, as I've only shown the current layout, not the end-goal). I got to thinking, if its this difficult, I probably not doing it the right way. Any thoughts ? how to read the source of LocalFS-File-Object

Dear list, I try to read the source of a xml-File in a LocalFS-Folder on a win98 PC. With: object = sourcePath['folderA']['folderB']['file.xml'] source = object.document_src() I get the content of the 'file.xml' but without the xml-tags which I need. I would like to get the same content with the tags that I see in the text-area when I click on 'file.xml' link in the ZMI-screen in the LocalFS Folders. I could not find how to get this myself. It must be related to the manage_workspace and the getattr methods but all my effords did not work. so some hint would be great. Thanks, Elena

[Q] problem installing page templates ...

I've stared at the following for the past two hours but can't figure out my problem in getting PageTemplates up and running ... Using Zope with Amaya HELP

Hi, I am following the example Using Zope with Amaya, Dreamweaver, and Other WYSIWYG Tools http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Articles/ZPT3 All seems to be working, until I get to edit the WYSIWYG index_html in Amaya. Here is what I've done: 1) Created the mock up file in the Amaya editor 2) created the index_html file in zope 3) saved the mockup file in http://192.168.0.2:8080/FileLib/index_html/source.html 4) added the python script and altered the ZPT as discussed in the how-to ALL works well till this point, but now, I want to enhance the index_html page and make it look better ;^) I made a simple change, but everytime I try to save the file I get the following error: Save As Document Location http://192.168.0.2:8080/FileLib/index_html/source.html Confirm Saving to http://192.168.0.2:8080/FileLib/index_html/source.html seems corrupted, ignore? If I ignore the error, it works and if I cancel the action the file still gets saved and the changes take place. My questions are, this error is it to do with Amaya? I presume it must be! Also how do you call the source.html file from Dreamweaver? Dreamweaver can see index_html but I don't seem to be able to figure how to use it without going Zope -> Amaya -> Dreamweaver -> Amaya ->Zope route? Through-the-Web Interface

Hi; I'd like to build a through-the-web interface that allows clients to develop new pages on-the-fly that would be automagically added to their drop-down navigation, expire on a date specified by the client, etc. Has anyone done this? How do I begin? Got some code to share :)) TIA, BenO
