I think if you have multiple people contributing content, it can be a good fit. Pros: The contributor interface can be made easier than the ZMI Skins are great - easy to switch presentation with a single source of content Consistent set of metadata Cons: Difficult to develop products for people new to zope products and python - I have yet to find a list detailing exactly what I need to do to make a product, I have just copied existing products and modified Difficult to integrate non-CMF zope products into the CMF Seems to be a bit slower than stock zope - RAM Cache seems to partially solve this Perhaps addressing your concern, I have put a little icon next to each topic, which when clicked starts a pop-up describing how members can get their stuff published to that particular topic - i.e. what metadata to use. I also banged my head against CMF for the longest time. The trick to understanding it is that in CMF the user environment is the developpment environment. So log into CMF, then try to develop. That said, I believe CMF is overkill for all of my projects. I do not have a separate tree of content to present, and a separate tree of people who submit content. As a recruiter, every person has one resume, so there is just one tree. So CMF is overkill. I do plan to use the login manager. And then CMF adds so much junk to my system, I can no longer find anything. For example the permissions page becomes huge. So I happily deleted CMF. And I lived happily ever after. Sorting Zope objects in python scripts

If one were to write... myList = [] for obj in context.objectValues(['Folder', 'DTML Document']): if obj.instance_type = 'Desired Class': myList.append(obj) .. then I would want to sort the various objects. The question is, how do I do that? I could do... myList.sort() .. but that doesn't give me a way to control on which property the sort is done. You could use a sort function, such as... def compare_integers(first=0, second=0): if first > second: return 1 else: if first == second: return 0 else: return -1 .. and this leads to the part that I just don't grok. How do I specify a particular property within an object (such as element_number) as the parameter to be used for the comparison? Do I just... myList.sort(compare_integers) ?? Can anyone give me a quick hint? The python documentation is a little short in this area. Thanks in advance, Ron

Getting Zope to act as if it is in a different domain?

Hi there, Here is my problem: Web site is served from domain A (an IIS web server) Web site uses a plugin JavaScript component from web site B (a Zope web server) which is plugged into a page served by A (not a frame of it's own). Web site JavaScript plugin opens a new window, creates a form, fills the form vars and posts it to Zope at B (the plugin uses this method to communicate with Zope Server) Zope web site returns a newly created page with the response to the JavaScript's request entered in a form var. JavaScript plugin must now access the form var to extract the answer. This does not work (access denied error) as the JavaScript plugin in page served from A cannot access elements in page served from B. Is there a way that I can set the headers/whatever of the page served by Zope so that it seems as if it was served by A and not by B? (I know how to get A's domain from HTTP_REFERER, but does not know how to set the headers/whatever). I wouldn't be surprised if this is totally impossible (but am REALLY hoping it is!). B.t.w. the audience is mostly I.E. browsers - I don't know if this is browser dependent though. Thanks Etienne.

Good development environment for Zope?

I just tested the WingIDE. It was a bit complex to set up, but not too much. Unfortunately, when trying to do the WingTest "walkthrough" to get started with Zope debugging and development, when trying to run a program, python crashed... So I gave up. I have no idea why that happened or what to do about it. So I'm asking you people here: How have you set up your development environments? Are you using any IDE? What editors are you using, how do you debug programs, how do you do testing, are you using any other applications as support for development? I'll answer my own questions first: IDE: No. Editor: Textpad. Debug method: Mostly "print" statements... Testing: Uhm, no, not really. Other apps: Nope.

DTML for "where am I"?

Hi all I have the following snippet of DTML to link to a reminder:: <dtml-if "URL1[_.len(BASE0):] == '/Reminders'"> <a href="./Reminder/view?r=<dtml-var id>"> <dtml-else> <a href="./Reminders/Reminder/view?r=<dtml-var id>"> </dtml-if> Its purpose is as follows: - If I am in the Reminders specialist, the path to the Reminder instance should be: http://server:11080/Reminders/Reminder/view?r=reminder13 - If I am elsewhere, the path should be, for example: http://server:11080/Products/1/Reminders/Reminder/view?r=reminder13 so that 'Reminders' can be acquired, and 'Reminder/view' be found from there. Without the check, the path would be http://server:11080/Reminders/Reminders/Reminder/view?r=reminder13 in the first instance, which looks ugly, and messes up my breadcrumbs trail. What I'm looking for is beautiful DTML for saying "if my context is the Reminders specialist, then do something special". The current <dtml-if "URL1[_.len(BASE0):] == '/Reminders'"> gets the job done, but I wouldn't call it pretty. Anything elegant I'm missing? Regards, Jean Jordaan

hi all! how can i create my own error pages for e.g. 404 and 403 errors? i see no possibility to change the standard "Site Error" page in zope when a document was not found. thx for your help greetings seshi

Chat in CMF...

Does anybody know a chat tool for Zope? I know this one: http://www.zope.org/Members/jwashin/ZRTChat. But it is too simple because if users don't speak, you don't know whether they are online or not. If there are no more tools, could everybody tell me how can I detect, from Zope, which users are online? Is it possible? Thanks, Josef.
