Accessing MS Access through Zope

I have an Access database that I want to "access" and submit SQL statements (and display the results via Zope). Has anyone done that successfully? If so, can you give me afew hints? The Access database does not reside on the same box as Zope. My Linux box (with Zope) sits on a Novell network that talks to the NT servers. Thanks in advance, Ron

Zope book now in public CVS

Greetings! The Zope book is now available in raw (structured text) format in a sourceforge CVS repository. We are also using SF's bug tracking and other tools to allow you better report problems to us than just email. If you'd like to check the book out of CVS, follow the instructions on this page under 'Anonymous CVS Access': http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=21038 What does this do for you? Well, first off, if you see problems in the book and you'd like to fix them, you can submit a patch to us instead of an email "describing" your suggested fix in prose. This is much more accurate for us to see the problem you point out. Tracking patches also gives us a nice mechanism for making sure we give patch-submitters honorable mention in the book! Also, some people may want to distribute the book (in accordance with the OPL license, or course) in some format we don't support yet, like LaTeX or Word (yes, PDF is coming, we're working on it!). With "the source" you are free to go about converting the content into whatever format you'd like. Lastly, although we try to keep the site as in-sync as possible with the CVS, the latest and greatest bug changes to the book may be found in CVS, where the web-site may lag a few days behind. So check it out, and enjoy. -Michel

Newbie can't get ZB Ch3 example to work

Hi, I'm new to Zope and am working through the Zope book examples. I'm stuck on the compound interest rates example, found in Chapter 3 under the "Using Scripts" section. I can't get the python script in that example to work, using Zope 2.3.0. I copied the entire example into Zope and tried to exercise it by going to the "View" tab on the interestRateForm DTML method. I typed in valid integers for the 4 parameters and pressed the "Calculate" button. I got: ErrorType: TypeError Error Value: not enough arguments; expected 4, got 0 So, to simplify, I went directly to the Python script "calculateCompoundingInterest" , added string.atoi lines to avoid "can't multiply sequence with non-int" type errors on input, and tried to run the script directly via the "Test" tab. Now I get: Error Type: TypeError Error Value: not enough arguments; expected 4, got 3 Here's my python script (I do have the 4 parameters separated by commas in the script's "Parameter list" area): """ Calculate compounding interest. Accepts four parameters, "principal", "interest rate", "periods" and "years". SECURITY alert and hotfix release...

Hello All, Casey Duncan uncovered a potential security issue today that necessitated a hotfix release. This hotfix addresses an important security issue that affects Zope versions up to and including Zope 2.3.1 b1. The issue is related to ZClasses in that a user with through-the-web scripting capabilities on a Zope site can view and assign class attributes to ZClasses, possibly allowing them to make inappropriate changes to ZClass instances. This patch also fixes problems in the ObjectManager, PropertyManager, and PropertySheet classes related to mutability of method return values which could be perceived as a security problem. Timing under Zope

Hi, Just wondered if anyone could help me solving a problem using Zope: I have a html <form> code within a DTML Document, is there anyone to send the data to my method after a defined time rather than when the user presses the submit button??? I would be grateful for any help and ideas, SS

Hi, Please disregard my previous message, the problem is fixed now. Ours is a pretty heavily SQL-dependent site, and the problem turned out to be a network connectivity problem between our web server and our database. Its funny how a problem with the database, on another machine, seemed to almost make everything else in our Zope install grind to a halt as well. How do I use variable variables in pythonscript?

I would like to do something like the following: <dtml-var "_[getform('do')]"> where getform('do') returns the name of the method that is then called, but I want to do it from a python script, that is, given a variable or a function, I would like to evaluate what it stands for, for instance: for action in things_to_do: context.action() where things_to_do is a list of names for method calls that I want to execute in the python script's context. Is there a way to do this? What about something like the python script equivalent of the dtml: <dtml-var "_[getform('do')+'_view']"> Thanks, Jason

Zope ODB Recovery questions

Hello! I'm trying to recover a Zope installation that stopped working yesterday, from the previous night's backed up copy of the ZODB, and I have several questions. Hopefully someone can help? The management interface is coming up after authentication with the frameset, but two blank frames on left and right..(no content) Should all the files be owned by the Zope owner, and is there anyplace where I can find documentaion on the proper permissions for everything? The Zope owner (in my case www-data, because I'm on a Debian Linux system) owns everything now, should www-data own *all* of the files? Can anyone think why a working DCOracle installation would suddenly stop working? Along with everything else, suddenly, it is not functioning and I'm getting in the sqlnet.log dump file an 'error 12545' which from what I can gather, means that the DCOracle isnt making it to the network.. Another Zope install I have is working fine..as far as I can see, they are identical. This whole problem started yesterday with some corrupted data getting through DCOracle into our Oracle 7.3.4 DB, causing all queries from apps that returned the corrupted record to drop the connection. That glitch seems to be what caused todays problem. Has anyone else ever seen this wierd "domino theory" interaction? Any help anyone could offer would be very much appreciated.
