making zope talk to mysql

I' ve been using zope for a while, but the single greatest frustration is installing new zope servers with mysql support. I've written to Andy Dustman, maintainer of MySQLdb and ZMySQLDA, who was kind enough to provide the usual boilerplate answers which will not work. So I'm back on the zope list asking about success stories. As everyone knows there are at least two different mysql modules. My last linux success was with MySQLdb-0.1.1 and ZMySQLDA-1.1.3 on Zope 2.1.2 and it's working okay. I've installed the DA on a windows machine successfully. I need to be able to install the latest versions of MySQL, Zope, Python, MySQLdb, and ZMySQLDA. The zope website has a couple of write-ups. I believe that I used the one written by alanpog to perform my last success. If you have installed the most recent zope with mysql support using python 2.0 on a mandrake 7.2 box in the past few weeks, I want to know how you did. I'm poor, but am reluctantly willing to pay a few bucks to the first couple of answers that work for me. Of course, all ideas will be tried; good ones will be rewarded. ZClasses and automatic sub-objects

I have an ObjectManager-derived ZClass. I would like all instances of this ZClass to have a subobject added to them automatically at creation time. This subobject has a fixed id in each instance (in this case, I want to add Image objects with an id of "logo"). Preferably, this object would a permanent part of each instance...you wouldn't be able to delete or rename it in any instance, but you would be able to edit it (e.g., upload image data). So, essentially it would act analogously to a property sheet. Is this even possible? I asked this question a couple of weeks ago and never got a response. -- Tim Moore

dbmstorage status

Where can I find some status information regarding the storage interface that allows ZODB to be backed by an SQL database (called dbmstorage I believe)? I understand that there is an oraclestorage and there is a BerkeleyStorage, but these are specific to Oracle and bdb, respectively. If it must be database specific, perhaps a PostgreSQL specific one :) Thanks.

Q: Request macro recorder?

Does something like a macro recorder for Zope requests exists? I'm starting to learn Zope programming. And this means currently that I'm constantly pressing the same buttons in the browser to test the product. It would be a great help if I could press these buttons once, which would produce a Python script which does the same by issuing HTML requests (or XML-RPC requests). Daniel

command line Zope?

I'm trying to roll out Zope for wide usage and one of the things users want already is a command line interface to Zope. At first, I thought that it was a silly request, but the more I think about it, the more I like it. In order to provide this, I need a way to run Python such that it connects to the ZODB (perhaps requiring ZEO?) and gives the user access to the database only as a specified user (with the option of manually authenticating to receive additional roles). Is this easy to do? Has it already been done? I read about importing Persistence and ZODB, but I'm clueless about setting up a user's environment in Python. Any pointers to appropriate documentation will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. --kyler

Searching ZCatalog on multiple properties

I've got some DTML Documents with properties Category and Author, and I'm trying to build a search interface for ZCatalog. What I want to do is build a multiple select list of the Author's names, but I want to use the Category to only display the names of People who have written columns. As an added wrinkle, the Author field present on the files corresponds to an "expanded name" sitting in a mysql DB. In other words, a column I've written might have cmuldrow in the Author property--I query the DB to return Chris Muldrow to display to searchers. Here's my code so far--it queries the DB correctly and returns a good list of names, but not filtered by Category. I tried a dtml-in tag calling NewsCatalog({'Category':'Column'}), but wherever I put it doesn't seem to work. Any ideas? Thanks! the misc_ dictionary

Hi all, I'm a little bit confused on how to use the misc_ dictionary to define product resources. I've looked into other products such as ZCatalog ZGadflyDA and SiteAccess but it's use is not so clear for me especially because most products only need to associate an icon with a python class. Someone can explain a bit more how to use it? There is an usege policy? thanks in advance Alberto
