Storing un-persistable objects in session (or Zope)

Hi all I have a COM component that I need to access from Zope. I must either put this component into a session so that I can carry it around wherever the user goes OR I must put it into a global object store where I can extract it whenever I need it. My problem is: making a class according to Zope's persitence rules does not work as I get a cPickle.Pickling error (I guess a COM object cannot be pickled). Saving the creation parameters and instantiating the COM object every time I need it is really not going to work as the COM object connects to a remove server and the connection time can be lengthy. I must store the object in something where it will be accessible for the lifetime of the Zope service (or some other arbitrary timeout). Will the following type of solution work (I hate global variables!) or is that basically all I can do: In my external method: objectStore = {} def GetObject(self,name): global objectStore return objectStore[name] def SetObject(self, name, params): global objectStore objectStore[name] = myComObjectWrapper(params) #creates the com object How will namespaces, module namespaces and multiple threads affect the accessibility and/or contents of objectStore? Any help, pointers, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Regards Etienne

For my 'lastmodify' datatype is TIMESTAMP(14) In my search result screen i tried to put the <dtml-var> attribute like this:- <dtml-var lastmodify fmt="%d-%m-%y %H:%M"> but it return this result:- Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Translator Product

Hi! Im using Zope 2.2.5 and the Translator Product... But I'm running into troubles. I found no way of doing the following http://www.website.com/FH1/index_html finding http://www.website.com/de/FH1/index_html or http://www.website.com/en/FH1/index_html It looks like Translator doesn't try to keep the folder hierarchy. Problem upgrading to Zope2.3

I did a clean install (on w2k), then copied across my products and Data.fs etc and when I restarted I got the following when I tried to access manage_main on the root folder. Funny thing is this doesn't happen on any other folder. How to use PropertySheets

Hello, I'm trying to write a Python Product (i.e. not a ZClass!) that has multiple property sheets on its management interface. I've experimented with inheriting from PropertyManager, and that works fine. But what I really want is to have collections of different properties under different tabs. Can someone point out another Product or any resource on how to implement this. I've been reading lib/python/OFS/PropertySheets.py but my attempts have failed. This is an outline of what I have tried: class MyNiftyProduct(Zope classes): . . . someProperties = ({'id':'foo', 'type':'string', 'mode':'wd'},) myPropertySheet = PropertySheet('bar') manage_options = ....{'id':'Foo', properties', 'action':'myPropertySheet.manage_Form'} . searching ZCatalog from Python Script

Hi all, I am relatively new to Zope and Python, so there is probably a short way to describe my problem, but trying to be clear from the top so that you can see if I've done something daft: I am trying to create a little web app component called 'TeamJournal'. The component should allow an authenticated user in my work team (from a web interface of my creation) to: 1. add an an entry to their journal and 2. to view their own or everyones entries for the last week. TheTeamJournal I have implemented as a ZClass with indexes and metadata both containing the items - 'author' and 'date' which map to properties in a propertysheet in the ZClass called entryInfo. Additionally I have a folder called 'Journals' in the Zope Root which contains: 1. a ZCatalog called 'Catalog' 2. a bunch of DTMLmethod objects and my offending python script that is the point of my question 3. a folder called entries where the journal entry objects get stored when they are created. As it stands I can add an entry from a web form, view all the journal entries in a web page by calling a DTML method in Journals and search on 'author' through the web via the forms generated by the ZSearchInterface. But reading the ZOPE book chapter 9, there is suggested a cool way to query a ZCatalog from a python script (the relevantSectionNews example). Using this approach I tried to get just my own entries by writing a python script called getMyEntries that looks like this: user = context.REQUEST.AUTHENTICATED_USER return context.Catalog({'author' : user} ) So to get to the point: The problem is this script doesn't seem to return anything, although it appears to run when I test it. I have three catalogued entry items in the Journals.entries folder. So I tried: return context.Catalog() which produced the following output: [<mybrains instance at 013281D0>, <mybrains instance at 01328650>, <mybrains instance at 013286C0>] well its 3 objects, but where 'mybrains' comes from I don't know. So then I wrote the following DTML method also in the Journals folder to try and get to the content of the objects: <ul> <dtml-in getMyEntries> <li><a href=&dtml-absolute_url;"><dtml-var date></a></li> </dtml-in> </ul> This method correctly displays a list of hyperlinks displaying as text the date property of my journal entries. So I assume it can find them.
