User's authentication

hi people, I'm trying to build a login routine in Zope. I have a few users registered in a certain folder with a profile that I created, and I'd like to authenticate them with a form that I made. Does anyone know which Zope method I'd have to use to set the necessary parameters? I've looked into the source code but couldnt find anything. Thanx,

Why doesn't this work: <dtml-in expr="_.range(100)" size="10"> <dtml-if next-batches> <dtml-var expr="_['next-batches'][-1]['batch-start-index']"> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> (it results in Unauthorized, from line 168 in ZopeSecurityPolicy) However, I can dtml-in over next-batches: <dtml-in expr="_.range(100)" size="10"> <dtml-if sequence-end> <dtml-in next-batches mapping> <dtml-var batch-start-index> </dtml-in> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> (this works fine, but will be needlessly slower than just <dtml-var>ing the correct value.) Hello! In response to Brian's comment #12 at http://dev.zope.org/Wikis/DevSite/Proposals/ExtendedDTMLSorting I implemented Extended Sort External Method: http://www.zope.org/Members/phd/Sort/#Ex. The syntax is slightly different: SortEx(sequence, ((key,), (anotherkey, locale))). I wrapped the sort options in one tuple because I need to pass namespace and mapping parameters: SortEx(sequence, ((key,), (anotherkey, locale)), mapping=1). Command-line and Zope tests provided. Passing parameters to python script objects

Hello everyone, I'm a newbee with zope and have the following problem: I want to display calculated results from an SQL-Database. I created an object 'Script (Python)' that looks like: ## Script (Python) "myFunction" ## bind container=container ## bind context=context ## bind namespace=_ ## bind script=script ## bind subpath=traverse_subpath ## parameters=myParam ## title=myFunction ## return myParam[0:-1] Then I created a dtml document object with the content: <dtml-var expr="myFunction('test')"> If I choose 'View' I see: tes This is what I have expected (the function chops the last character). Then i tried: <dtml-in select_all_from_myTable> <p><dtml-var myField1></p> </dtml-in> If i choose 'View' i see: test1 test2 test3 Then I tried: <dtml-in select_all_from_myTable> <p><dtml-var expr="myFunction(<dtml-var myField1>)"></p> </dtml-in> If I choose 'View' I get: Expression (Python) Syntax error: invalid syntax So, how do i have to write this call, that it chops the last character of myField1 ? Hi all, I have a question I hope someone could help me with.. I have made a Znieuws (Zclass) for adding newsarticles. If I add a instance through the zope interface everything is ok. The instance is putten into the Catalog with all of it's properties. I've allso made a few pages where you can see all the articles, add articles edit articles and delete news articles. Now my problem is If I add an article through the "user" interface (without seeing the zope interface). The article is put ito the catalog but it misses all of it's properties , except for bobo_modification_time and title. If I now manualy update the Catalog (selecting the catalog, on the catalog tab selecting the article and press update) It gets all of it's properties cataloged and so everything works. Hope someone can help on this. I couldn't find anything in the archives. Thanx, James

Problem setting up Ultraseek DA

Hello everyone, Has anybody had any success integrating the Inktomi search engine with a Zope application? I have been trying to use the Ultraseek DA product, without much success. Creating an Ultaseek DA object fails with "An error occurred connecting to the server. " message. After debugging UltraseekDA.py, I found a problem with the following statement; data=marshal.loads(data) (line 135) I have included a small python program along with it's output which demonstrates the problem (I think). ZmxODBC vs ZODBC

ok. just got ZmxODBC working: * install ZmxODBC and ZODBC * copy the sql.pyd file from the ZODBC directory to the ZmxODBC directory * copy mx /lib/python/Shared to /lib/python ;) to get it in the PYTHONPATH * uncomment #from sql import * that is in ZmxODBC/dbi.py (could be dba.py, I forgot) and all works well. * crank zope up and hopefully you get no errors ;) now, I havent look too heavily into this, but it seems that ZmxODBC seems to work just fine. I heard some people saying it was unpredicatable. could someone please point me to instability problems you may have found with ZmxODBC? I am looking for the most reliable way to access ODBC datasources from ZOPE. I have used mxODBC (outside of ZOPE) before and its worked quite well. I'm doing a unrealistic test w/ httpperf and I'm not having problems and memory usage isnt blowing up. I dont see any problems. mind you, I'm only using it against MS Access - SQLServer will be tomorrow. please email me if you have reproducible problems w/ ODBC and ZOPE. I have a client that is interested in ZOPE on Windows -- so far it looks like it works reasonably well w/ ZmxODBC and Access (they will be using Access and SQLServer). thanks, runyaga

Hi Chris, my first idea would be to create the database connections when the user is created, i.e. in a special per-user folder and hardwire the db-login and passwd in the database connection. In the folder above I would use LoginManager (don't know about UserDB, though). LoginManager has a method which is called userAuthenticate which returns true (or 1) if the user is authenticated. Use that for checking your users against any datasource you like, for instance <dtml-in "SQL_get_password(username=username)"> <dtml-if "_.crypt(password,_['sequence-item'].real_password)==_['sequence-item'].real_password"> <dtml-return "_.int('1')"> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> for checking against crypted passwords in an external database. Theres also a Method called userRoles which returns a list of the roles the users has. This could check your license files with the help of an external method in order to return the appropriate roles which then could be used in zope with custom roles. cheers, oliver

hi, I'm consider myself a Zope newbie even though I've done a number of projects with DTML and zClasses; I've yet to implement a Zope product from scratch or deploy what I would consider to be a complex app. However, that's about to change! I'm trying to get the Zope zen when it comes to zSql methods and a custom user folder. I've got a Win32 application that I'm trying to evolve into a combination of WebObjects and Zope applications. I'm hoping to share an authentication mechanism/scheme between the 3 applications. The current Win32 app uses a combination of database protection and a custom "license" mechanism to enable/disable application features based on a user's role. I need to replicate this functionality in Zope. I would like to have a user folder that authenticates a user based on a combination of database password (i.e., like the username and password that the zODBCDA connection uses for the connection string) and a custom users table (if the user gets that far), and a license file product that sits in the custom user folder and provides role information. I've looked at LoginManager and UserDB and don't know which one to start with, or even if either of them is an appropriate launch point. Does this sound like a reasonable thing to try? Can anyone suggest alternative mechanisms to unify the authentication of users between these 3 development and application environments? We already have a database in place, so that is pretty easy to modify if necessary. I know about LDAP but that would mean major changes to the legacy win32 code that I'd like to avoid if possible. Any hints would be greatly appreciated.
