hi, I am using Zope, in linux 6.2 redhat. when I do any operation in my website, I get NOTICE: Unrecognized variable client_encoding. I am using PostgreSQL database for my project. help me. subrahmanyan

pcgi_publisher.py -- still needed?

I am hooking Zope and IIS together and along the way saw a comment saying, pcgi_publisher.py is no longer needed, since z2.py can publish requests. so in my zope.pcgi I changed PCGI_PUBLISHER to C:\WebSite\z2.py instead of C:\Website\pcgi\pcgi_publisher.py and it works just fine in fact its faster! Question: is there any reason to continue keeping pcgi_publisher.py in Zope? I did some quick benchmarking using httperf and it seems that using z2.py is slightly faster (Zope2.3.2b2 default /index_html), about 4.5% faster. Should I put this in the collector? I think pcgi_publisher would be nice to have as a standalone python library. but I dont see the benefits in the standard zope distribution since you can use z2.py to publish pcgi requests? or is my terminology all screwy ;p? thanks, ~runyaga

ZDP I'm a technical editor at a mid-size software company and so I might be able to speak to the question of Zope documentation. To me, what seems to be desparately lacking is a real user guide. By that, I mean a highly structured manual that is entirely focused on accomplishing common tasks and procedures, rather than on Zope concepts and API. This is not a criticism of what is available now - the more conceptual material - the Zope Book and Dieter's book - are excellent resources and required reading for anyone who wants to 'get' Zope. But (in an ideal world) there should also be a very structured set of step-by-step procedures for all of the basic tasks involved in putting together a typical site. Much of that material is there already in the HowTos but to an editor's eye the HowTos (taken as a group) are an overwhelming and utterly disorganized jumble. To do a proper user guide you would have to start from scratch and begin by working out a table of contents. In the table of contents the chapters, sections, and topic headings would not contain any references to Zope jargon (ZClasses, DTML, ZPT etc) but rather, they should be rigorously pruned down to simple objectives ("Index a Website", "Add a Navigation Bar", "Process a Form", "Connect to a SQL database" etc.). Once you have a relatively complete TOC (although obviously you can't cover everything) you can look at the existing sources - the HowTos, the Zope Book, list archives etc - and see what available material would cover the topics in the outline. To do it properly, most of the HowTos would need a great deal of pruning to get some kind of consistency, to remove the conceptual stuff (which is useful but not in this context) and to reduce them to a series of simple steps (a maximum of about ten steps per procedure). The end result would be something that would not be particularly englightening for the ZopeZen Masters who can write Python scripts in their sleep but could provide a tremendous productivity boost to the less-skilled people who can and should be doing a lot of the grunt work but need lots of handholding. I've actually been tinkering a bit with a TOC for just such a manual but I'm swamped with other projects at work and this would be almost a full time job in itself. Q:How do I get a directory...?

Is it possible to get a "dir" of the actual files in a specific folder on the server that has zope installed...? Ex: <dtml-in "c:\news\"> should return [[bookmarks.com],[hover-craft.exe],[zope_rulez.yeah]] if the dir c:\news\ contains: bookmarks.com hover-craft.exe zope_rulez.yeah /stoons PS I know Linux is the Zope-ruler, but Pesonally I do not know Linux - yet ;-)

xmlrpclib.Binary() fails with manage_addImage()

When I try something like the example in http://groups.yahoo.com/group/xml-rpc/message/1409 I get Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: seek If I don't use Binary, I'm o.k. unless I use a "special" character. That doesn't last long in a JPEG image. Any suggestions? debugging security issues

Hi all, I am blocked by a bad security issue when playing with some ZPatterns objects. I am trying to find a way to go on. I have been reading both Zope security and ZPatterns source code. The second number is the length of the response. In you example, you got 2 404 responses ("Not found") with a response size of 2106 and 2109 bytes. how to import strptime.py to ZOPE WIN installation?

Hi, I want to do some form typechecking on the server side for date input. Strptime() is what I need, but the function is not part of the windows distribution. So I was happy to discover strptime.py from Andy Eskilsson (http://www.fukt.hk-r.se/~flognat) which works nicely from the commandline in PythonWin. But how the hell (sorry) can I get it "into" my Python/ZOPE installation? I´d like to call it from a Python script. Reading lots of list archives and the like didn´t give me a clue yet. Please help! Hope I am not off topic (is this a Python thing?), but others might be interested in strptime.py functionality as well. thanks, -georg-
