Hi, Tell me I've got a blackout, but I thought I could provide the following : <dtml-sqlvar EQUIPMENT type=string optional> and when I don't fill a value in, it will use null as value... Or isn't this possible with string values? Why? Tom.

Opera Browser problem with zope's managment cookies

Hello, Managing a zope site with Opera the copy+paste operation have problems, i.e, when you do a copy a cookie is sent to your browser and then a paste button will be available, but that doesnt happens with Opera. At least with the Opera version I'm using: Opera 5.0 for Linux - Beta 7 - 20010320.018 - [5.0b7]. Why can't I add lots of objects at once?

A month or two ago I asked here for advice on putting roster data (~233K entries/semester) in our database. One of the suggestions was to use XML-RPC in order to avoid the timeouts I was getting. I've been working on an XML-RPC solution and it is quite adequate for small data sets, but if I try to add a few hundred student/class entires, it hangs. After a few iterations, I've come up with this script on the Zope side. Essentially, it creates a structure like AAE 203 01 01 students kyler.b.laird.1 sally.r.smith.5 =================================================== if (not csubject in courses.objectIds()): courses.manage_addFolder(csubject, csubject) if (not cnumber in courses[csubject].objectIds()): courses[csubject].manage_addFolder(cnumber, cnumber) if (not division in courses[csubject][cnumber].objectIds()): courses[csubject][cnumber].manage_addFolder(division, division) if (not section in courses[csubject][cnumber][division].objectIds()): courses[csubject][cnumber][division].manage_addFolder(section, section) if (not 'students' in courses[csubject][cnumber][division][section].objectIds()): courses[csubject][cnumber][division][section].manage_addFolder('students', 'students') current_students = courses[csubject][cnumber][division][section]['students'].objectIds() for student in students: if (not student in current_students): courses[csubject][cnumber][division][section]['students'].manage_addFolder(student, student) =================================================== Terribly naive programming aside, what's wrong with calling this a couple hundred times? It seems to just keep taking more and more of the processor time. Eventually I give up, kill the server and restart it. Then I can run the script again and it will get a little bit further (because it doesn't have to create the existing objects, I assume). Of course, I'd prefer not to have to break this up into one thousand chunks with server restarts in between each one. Any suggestions? Thank you. --kyler

Text box with qualifier and Javascript

Listing objects in a specifik folder

Hello, I am working on a site and I need to list all documents in a specifik folder. There is just one problem - the folder isn't in the REQUEST. Now it is a subfolder to my "mainfolder". It is called About. If I say <dtml-if /mainfolder/About> <dtml-in /mainfolder/About> it never shows up. If I let out the <dtml-if> tag I get a key error ... Anything I have misunderstood ? are you running any kind of proxy or gateway software on the box? 8080 is a common port for proxies. How to iterate over lists within properties?

I have documents that need to store a list of values within one or more of its properties, and then be able to retrieve those values through a dtml-in procedure. The lines property type is the right choice to store this list, but I haven't found how to append values to it nor how to iterate those values. About the latest, and after tried it, it looks like objectItems() nor objectValues() will work. Anyway, this is what I thought it would do the job, but it didn't: <dtml-with "dtml_document.line_property_id"> <dtml-in objectValues()> <dtml-var sequence-item><br> </dtml-in> </dtml-with> Am I missing something? Is there a workaround other than using folders instead of documents? Thanks in advance, Ausum

CatalogAware when there's no 'Catalog'

Hi everyone, It seems like it's not possible to create a CatalogAware ZClass that automatically catalogs itself in anything other than a ZCatalog named 'Catalog'. Is that the case? Does a rule of thumb exist to help decide when you should us a 'Catalog' in your Zope's root folder and when it would be better to use a custom 'FooCatalog' in a subfolder somewhere for specific purposes. For example, I've created a catalogaware ZClass to store breakfast and lunch menus for our schools. I'd like to query a ZCatalog somewhere to pull out a menu for a certain day or a range of days. localhost can be misleading. it's even worse in a hybrid network using WINS/DNS. From my experience I don't start it as a service that way I can see the DOS box. Normally I can see what port and the name of the machine when I start zope. You might have a name resolution problem so I would try using http://machinename:8080 or http://127.0.0.1:8080. Also assuming you have TCP/IP properly initialized on that machine. If everything still seems in order you either try debug mode or run a freeware port scanner on the machine to see if that port is already open.
