incredible authentication problem

Hi, I'm in the following situation and can't explain it: I've created a user in the root's acl_users folder of a fresh Zope 2.3.1beta2 installation. this user has an "almost" manager local role in a sub-sub folder of the root one, but no role anywhere else. If I login as this user from home or at work, respectively under Debian Potato with Netscape 4.75 and 4.76, then it works fine and the management screens are shown to me. If I tell the real user to try to connect as this Zope user from his home, then only the top and left management frames are shown to him correctly: the right frame shows the "View" of the folder, not its contents. What I can't explain is that in both situations we log in using the very same username and password, but the result is different for him. On a screenshot he sent to me, the top frame shows the good username, and when I personnally lo in with this username the top frame shows it is correct (anbd the same) too. Since I've created the folder as the manager (admin account) of the whole Zope installation, is it possible that Netscape caches my authentification information, which isn't cached for him because he never logs in as admin ? I must say that he and I have quitted and relaunched Netscape several times during several days, but the problem persists. Unfortunately I don't know his Netscape's version, and we can't try IE. Could this be related to cookies, javascript or proxy cache settings ? thanks in advance for any help. Help to Delete User in DTML

Invalid Cursor state error

Hello, I am having a problem with my Zope/ Mysql system and was hoping that some kind soul in Zope land may be able to help me. I am running Zope 2.3.0 (Binary release, python 1.5.2 win 32-x86) MySQL using ZODBC to communicate with Zope. I am using a Win 98 SE box for development and NT 4 server when it is complete. The error I am receiving is: Error Type: sql.error Error Value: ('24000',0,'[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Invalid cursor state') I receive this error after 3 queries to the database. The type of queries makes no difference. I am not using cursors in my database. Non-caching version of POPMail ?

David, I'm planning to modify POPMail (or more likely, make a derived product POPMailNc) so that there is no persistent message cache. I just wanted to pass the idea by you, so you could tell me if I'm doing something stupid or if you've already solved my problem for me in a newer version of POPMail. I'm using POPMail to couple my Zope server to another product (PerfectTracker). Zope initiates Tracker incidents via sendmail and receives responses from the Tracker at a dedicated POP3 mailbox, which it polls (using Xron) every 5-10 minutes. I've discovered that if I ever delete messages from the mailbox manually (i.e. using a POP client other than POPMail) POPMail's persistent message cache gets hopelessly out of sync with the mailbox, and it begins to deliver messages from its cache when there are new messages with the same UID in the mailbox. That's bad. While I don't need to delete messages behind POPMail's back, I can't really prevent someone from doing so, due to the nature of our mail system. So I propose to make POPMail's cache non-persistent (I guess it really wouldn't be a cache then, would it?). I don't expect a performance problem, because, if I delete old messages regularly I will never have more than a few hundred messages in the mailbox. (Messages correspond to new employees.) I think I can make uidDict and MessageDict nonpersistent simply by changing their names to _v_uidDict and _v_MessasgeDict. Is that correct? -- Thanks for your input -- Loren

Need design advice

I'd like to add two capabilities to my city government web site: 1. users should be able to initiate discussions about legislation pending before our City Council. i.e., discussions will be tied to the relevant bill document. 2. users must register in order to post. I'd like enough information so that if someone posts death threats or the like they can be tracked down. I don't need threaded discussions (though that would be nice) so I'm tempted just to roll my own. Is there anything out there in the way of easy to use discussion Products that I could pop in to my site without buying into a gigantic set of associated machinery a la CMF? As far as enforcing some minimal accountability on the part of posters, the Membership product seems like my best bet, though there are some things I'd like to change, e.g., I'd like user info stored in a SQL db, not Zope, passwords should not be encrypted 'cause I want to send them out every month, and I want different info. stored about users than the default properties provided by the Product. How hard do you think this would be with Membership? Are there any other Products I should consider IYO? Thanks! --

I'm pretty much giving up on finding an old Bobo for Medusa. My last chance seems to be Zope. (After that it's only going back to Apache und Perl). 1) Is it possible to freeze ZServer and running it standalone? (It's no problem with Medusa). 2) If yes, what are the caveats? Is there really no way for it to support standard CGI? 3) Can I run it nonblocking if using a Python with thread support compiled in? Will freeze retain the ./configure --with-thread? 4) Does anyone have a recipe for extracting just the ZServer relevant parts from a Zope distribution? I'm running short on time, so there's no time for poking around. TIA, Eugene
