Using FTP to connect to Zope server from (g)VIM

Hi all, My intellect was piqued recently by a discussion on the list about editors for Zope etc. I remember some people saynig that VIM was good, to which my response was, 'Yeah but there's no FTP built in'. Someone then responded with a few scripts to do it. Well I thought they were a bit cumbersome, so I wrote my own. ftpopen.py and ftpsave.py. If you have a VIM executable with Python support built in then these run from within VIM and allow you to open/save file from/to Zope seamlessly. (I have them on a menu in GVIM for instance) I'll put the files up on my Zope Members bit (http://www.zope.org/Members/philh) along with a few instructions. If anybody can think of any enhancements then please let me know and I'll see if I can work them in. I hope these will be useful to someone. See ya Phil phil.harris(a)zope.co.uk

It's very strange that one machine with IE5.0 works and one doesn't. Anyone else heard of something like this? As for the sluggishness, IE just gets fatter every time they rev it. But, so does Netscape for that matter. You probably need more RAM. *Designing* Zope sites

I've been learning about the workings of Zope: ZClasses, ZSQL methods, Python products, etc., and there are *lots* of resources about the APIs, and lots of products to add content to our sites. There is also lots of help on how to *set up* a Zope site: how to tie w/Apache, etc. What I haven't found yet, though, is much advice on how to *design* the Zope site: . effective ways to use User Folders . whether to make containing folders for like objects (eg book reviews), and collect these for lists with objectValues, or whether to add them under user folders/different contexts, and use ZCatalog searches to find them. . how to handle printable pages throughout a site . strategies for using ZSQL methods throughout a site and so on The Zope book tosses some nuggets of advice here and there, but doesn't build up a site, so we don't really get to see the workings of a talented Zope architect. Other documentation focuses on how to Do Things, like use SQL methods, or how to build products. I've had a little bit of time to look at the CMF, and that has some structure about reviewing, etc. (and seems to advocate the 'place things in user folders, use ZCatalog to find' method); however, I'm not designing something that seems so portal-ish, and this seems like a hegemonic solution to a design question. So: Am I missing any resources on fitting it all together? Are there 'example sites' that someone could describe? Would anyone with a well-designed site be willing to export it all up and post it somewhere, so we could explore it? Same problem here. But I think that the problem is elsewhere because I don't have any problem to manage my personal folder on zope.org with OmniWeb. Maybe the problem is authenticating an user when there is a port number in the URL. Or the way zope.org does the authentication is more friendly that the authentication window. I have tried to run zope on a port 80 but Python refused to bind the port and I'm sure that Apache is not running. It seems that Mac OS X protects some resources. By the way, iCab has exactly the same problem and yet, it works with the personal folder. Dominique

[Note] "absolute_url" strips any context

I just recognized (and was astonished) that "absolute_url" strips any context from the URL. Thus, e.g., if you have the following structure: / F/ D -> absolute_url en/ de/ fr/ then "GET('/en/F/D')" will return "/F/D". This is because, "absolute_url" is based on "getPhysicalPath". Probably it is this behaviour that should be indicated by the "absolute" in "absolute_url" (I never understood it so far). Nevertheless, I suggest to make this behaviour more explicit in the documentation. Dieter

Difference between zope and apache

Hi, I've just noticed an annoying difference in the handling of directories in zope. If I create an directory /myDirectory, put an index_html file there, and a my.css file the index_html should use in the same directory refering to it with <link rel=stylesheet type=text/css href="my.css"> in the head of my document I get a structure that would work perfectly fine in apache, but not in zope. /myDirectory /myDirectory/index_html /myDirectory/my.css Accessing http://example.com/myDirectory in zope would give me the files http://example.com/myDirectory/index_html and http://example.com/my.css In apache the server would return a location header like: Location: http://example.com/myDirectory/ and then my browser would know it should ask for http://example.com/myDirectory/my.css Zope doesn't seem to set the location header, so asking for http://example.com/myDirectory/ http://example.com/myDirectory returns different results if the index_html contains relative URLs below /myDirectory/. Help with iterating thru a list of objects

Hello! I need to display the results of an sql query and I need to compare the value of field A in the current item with the value of field A in the previous item, in order to display things correctly. Doing this in a Python script seems overkill, since I only need to control the display of things. I have crancked upp a lot of info in the result of the query for optimization reasons so changing the query is out of the question. Any help is appreciated. viewing newsgroups

Hi, Apologies to anyone who may be receiving this a second time ;( I am trying to use a web front end to view already existing newsgroups on an nntp server. I was wondering if there are any zope products out there that will do this for me. I do not need it to act as a mail server or anything like this. I had a quick look at zopeGUM but this seems to be saying that it *will* provide something that may do this for me. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. MSAccess

If I'm going to be able to use Linux and Zope as my intranet site and crack the Microsoft stronghold, I need to access my MsAccess databases from Zope in Linux. Is this possible? I'm struggling with mxODBC in conjunction with iODBC. not having much luck. Are there any zopish alternatives. -mjm

How to eliminate the traceback in the error message screen?

When i key in the duplicate record ZOPE will prompt out the duplicate error message, actually i can just modified the top part of this error message screen but i want to eliminate the traceback show on the bottom of the page but i dont know where to modify it.
