Hi folks, I have just installed zope on my FreeBSD box. The problem is that it's dryving me crazy. It's very complex. Is there a source of documentation like the one we can see (for instance) for MySQL. Zope documentation is very poor, why? Another question that's catching my hears: Why is zope not written in C? xml-rpc authentication

I am trying to use xml-rpc to get hold of some files uploaded to one Zope server, send them to another for some processing, and then have them returned to the first server. My difficulty is in the authentication part. I have read Amos' tutorial (http://www.zope.org/Members/Amos/XML-RPC) and understand that xmlrpclib.py in its standard form does not handle http authentication. My problem is that I'm not really that hot on python, so I don't totally understand how to implement Amos' BasicAuthTransport class. Where should I put this code? Do I need to make any more alterations (other than subclassing 'transport' as opposed to 'xmlrpclib.transport')? I had a go at getting things to work; here's what I did: 1) Made a copy of xmlrpclib.py named xmlrpclibx.py to play with 2) Pasted in Amos' BasicAuthTransport class code. 3) Changed the line in the 'Server' class so that it set 'transport' to 'BasicAuthTransport()' ... but I simply got a syntax error when I tried to 'import xmlrpclibx' in my external method. Can anyone help me out? thanks tim

users managing their own user details

How do I allow my users to _only_ edit their own user details? I have about 20 users who will have varying degrees of access to the Zope management area. All in the one users folder. I want to encourage them to change their password regularly. But I don't want them to be able to edit other user's details or even create acl_users folders, just edit their own details. I cant seem to work out how to do this. Tom

dtml-in question

Helloa all, pls. pardon me if my question is sily, i'm a newbie. :) in zope 2.3x with <dtml-in> tag, how to list the objects that has property "menu" ? in a particular folder? for example, i want to list objects that has "menu" property in folder = /products/books with a DTML_Method in folder = /products/music how to do that? thanks for your help ismet

newbie: problems with setting title when cloning a dtml-method

hi guys, a short python-question. i have a script quite similar to the one in the zope book. it looks like this. Asynchronous dtml?

Hi all, If you have time consuming dtml in a method, is it possible to call the DTML method and allow it to run by itself (in paralell), where its completion being independant from the page being written to the client? Thanks, Paz

compiling Python modules for Zope

Hello: I'm trying to get LoginManager to work, which means building DynPersist in ZPatterns. I followed the instructions of copying Makefile.pre.in into the ZPatters folder and running "make -f Makefile.pre.in boot". The main error I seem to be getting is: ../../ZODB/cPersistence.h:89: header file 'ExtensionClass.h' not found ExtensionClass.h is located in my Zope directory in lib/Components/ExtensionClass/src/ExtensionClass.h. How do I tell make where to find this file and any other headers it needs in order to build Python modules for Zope. Sorry, I don't know too much about make or compiling modules.
