Timeout on authenticated user?

Hi all I want to be able to timeout an authenticated user. I am planning on using a session object to store the username and set the timeout on that object. When the session object timed-out, I will see that there is no username and I can then set the authenticateduser to Anonymous. I am not quite sure how to do that (set the authenticated user to something else - is it enough just to se the REQUEST variable?) and if my methodology is good at all! Any other suggestions on tackling this? B.T.W. I am going to create a session object storing some extra info on the user anyway, that's why I thought of using the session object to do the timeouts with. Etienne

Storing list as object attributes

Is it possible to store a list as attributes to DTML Document? I have an application which I need to store a list of 0 to 7 persons who sign the letters. Because the name take various forms in various place and they contain both chinese name and western forms which I would like to have store the reference instead of the name in the list. I intend to have persons as DTML Document with attributes representing their names. In the letter object, (a DTML document also), I would like to have an attribute to store the list who sign it. roles & permissions newbie question

I know this has been done, but I don't know how to do it myself. I'm trying to write a html page where some parts gets displayed only if the user has logged in. If the person is not logged in, it should display some generic text, with perhaps a "login" button somewhere. I'm also trying to do this from an external method. For one thing, I'm not sure if I need to add another role or another permission. I can't seem to be able to add another permission, I only see the ability to add a user role. So I tried that, and used SecurityManager.validate(). But it forces you to login, whereas I want a more passive approach. Thanks, Albert

What's Traversable?

Hi, I can see that ObjectManager subclassing Traversable. The traverse hook of my class works no matter if it subclasses Traversable. What's the use of it? dtml-with in python script

Hello all, Folder structure is like this root |-SharedCode | |- CodeSnippet |-Folder a |-Folder 1 |-Folder A I put pieces of code we use across the whole website in Shared code. If I want to get CodeSnippet I use the following code in DTML. <dtml-with SharedCode> <dtml-var CodeSnippet> </dtml-with> Now, how do I do this in a python script? There doesn't seem to be an equivalent command like dtml-with to push a folder onto the namespace. And getitem doesn't support getting objects that are not in the namespace. Help!! Things I have tried (among many) _['SharedCode']['CodeSnippet'] - Returns Code Snippet, but all " are returned as ", I need " _.getitem('CodeSnippet',1) - Doesn't work, not in namespace. _.getitem(_['SharedCode']['CodeSnippet'], 1) - Doesn't work _['SharedCode'].getitem(... doesn't work because getitem is associated with the _ namespace. etc, etc, etc -Chris

multiple selection with methods

Hello all, Itseems really difficult to have some informations about multiple selection (i send a message and see an other one without response). Then i ask again: how could we insert a method (pyhton perl or DTML) from a particular place (but not directly placed in the Zclass definition, and with argument in an attribut definition (in a Zclass Object). The goal is, when we instanciate the object (in zope), the creator of the instance of the object could initialize the attribut we informations taken from a list. News product + workflow

Hi everyone, I'm trying to redesign some very simple news products I've developed for use on my site. I'm going to call the new product SimpleNews and it will likely contain two parts--a basic ZClass for a short list of announcements of the type that my school broadcasts over the public address system twice a day and a ZClass for longer reports of single events like concert reviews, a story about one of our sports team's games, a letter from the principal, etc. My site is organized with the school district in the root of my zope and subfolders for each school. I've created a number of users in subfolders that are responsible for various portions of the site. No problem there. I'd like to implement some sort of simple workflow whereby my regular users would be able to publish announcements or news articles and have them immediately visible to site visitors. I also want to allow others to be able to submit news items for possible publication pending review by an official reviewer. Here are a few questions that I've come across: 1. I'd like to categorize the announcements and news by categories corresponding to the different schools, sports, arts, academics, etc. This will allow me to filter the news on a per site basis. But at the same time, I don't want someone from Spam Elementary School reviewing announcements in the Eggs Middle School category. What would be the best way to accomplish that? 2. It's unclear to me how best to implement this simple workflow. I see two possible solutions. a. Catalog each item immediately when it's submitted, but use a boolean property (e.g., "published") that would determine whether that item is visible to site visitors. The advantage of this method would be that I could construct a ZCatalog query that would pull up a list of submitted items requiring review by the site's reviewers. A disadvantage would be that I would need to construct a filter to prevent the unpublished items from appearing in every other ZCatalog query that I use on the site. Every time I used a ZCatalog query, I would need to make sure it wasn't displaying unpublished items. b. Delay cataloging until the item has been reviewed. The disadvantage of this method could be making it harder for the reviewers to process the submitted items. It may be (in fact it's likely) that there's another solution that makes much more sense. I would appreciate any feedback on this idea. ZCatalog problems

Hi, I am having problems with getting back data from ZCatalog. I create instances of the ZClass "racedate". racedate has a property called "date_sort" which is the date that the race will take place in the format "yyyymmdd". In a dtml-document I read the objects with <dtml-with "admin.racedates"> <dtml-in "Catalog(sort_on='date_sort)"> <dtml-var date_sort> [...] Everything works fine until two or more objects have the same value in date_sort (eg. 20010528). Then it miserably fails. Only part of the objects or even none are displayed. I tried back and forth and it really seems to be the sort_on='date_sort'. If I do sort_on='id', all objects are displayed and <dtml-var date_sort> shows the right values. So the problem really seems to be the sorting on an index when 2 or more objects have the same value for that property. Is that a bug or a feature?
