Hi this list was recommend as a good place to ask for Zope help so I let you know I'm a newbie and I've been searching for an answer through various lists so if it's been answered already I plead newbieness and request your forgiveness. Here goes. I installed squishdot int c:\program files\website\lib\python\products and restarted zope. Squishdot is available and the icon isn't broken I tried to bring up a plain vanilla site and this is the error message I received: Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: TypeError Error Value: Catalog addIndex now requires the index type to be resolved prior to adding; create the proper index in the caller. I haven't heard of the caller so I'm at a loss where to go next if you can point me in the right direction I'd be grateful thanks for your patience lsmith(a)scw.org

Simple, I think!

I've looked everywhere and I think this should be simple but I'm not getting it I simply want to count the number of records generated by an ZSQL Method (SQL query) within a DTML Method (something like get the record count of that certain query). I then want to refer to this number (could be zero if there are no records) and say if this number is zero then do something, else do something else. Can anyone help??

Big improvement for load_site.py, patch included

Hi, I'm pleased to send the attached patch for load_site.py (tested against load_site.py from Zope 2.3.2), just tell me if it's useful. The original load_site.py determined the content-type of the file to upload to the ZODB from the file's extension, and a wrong content type (text/plain, the default one) was set for unrecognized extensions. For example PDF files were uploaded as text/plain. The modified version uses urllib to get the real content-type. urllib is able to load local content, so why not use it ? This allowed me to delete the methods to handle images, which are now handled automagically, as well as upload a bunch of documents to my ZODB while preserving their original content-type. Another thing at which urllib would be useful is at allowing load_site to load sites from the web instead of from the local filesystem, however more work is needed for this to work with directories. Some sanitization is done to document's ids before uploading them to the ZODB, because I encountered problems trying to upload files which names contained spaces or accented characters: each invalid character is replaced with an underscore. However this may produce invalid ids too, so perhaps a better solution is needed. <dtml-rant mode="LOUD"> load_site is wonderful, however I really think it could be even better if my idea of putting the ZODB object's meta-type in a single comment line at the top of DTML Documents and DTML Methods was finally implemented (see zope(a)zope.org archives). This comment, why not a # comment instead of a  or <dtml-comment ...>, would be set on EXPORT/ViewSource only, and stripped by Zope on IMPORT/CREATION This would allow people to easily work with both DTML Documents and DTML Methods in external tools and have them uploaded with the correct metatype. Given that PythonScripts already contain such a stupid comment which means nothing to external tools but only to Zope, I really can't see why DTML Documents and Methods wouldn't have the same thing ! Of course on import/creation if the said comment is absent, then the actual behavior would be preserved, i.e. the 50% chances to be wrong would still be there for those who don't want to understand how much this would simplify some people's work. I'd be glad with something like: # DTML Method <dtml-something ...> ... or:  <dtml-something ...> ... Comment on comments in DTML

This is not really a question, but a comment about comments :) I find the <dtml-comment></dtml-comment> syntax for commenting code very cludgy and not conducive to well commented code. I have used Perl, Python, ASP, Java, JavaScript and VB before. All of these languages have a very simple comment method that allows the coder to easily place comments at the end of lines or in simple blocks. The Zope DTML method too cumbersome for simple comments at the end of lines, and even blocks of comments don't stand out too well. I like to comment my code very much and wonder what other people think. I understand that being HTML based the comment syntax may have to be an inclusive tag, but perhaps a simple one would do. I don't know much about the DTML interpreter so I may be off the mark here, but some suggestions: </ a comment />  <#>comment</#> <!--#>comment<!--/#> Acutally the second example almost works now, it stops DTML from executing, but it then renders the code and the comment. The appropriate thing would be to not render the comment at all. Well there could be many good ways, I just think the more we encourage people to comment their code the better all code will be. Tom

UK Zope Meeting

Project FTP Site

Here is my problem: I need to create a project site for an archiectural office. The primary purpose is File Transfer. Each firm participating in the project will have a folder to upload files to. They may also download from the other folders, but not upload. The files are primarily AutoCad drawings. There also needs to be the capability to send emails to groups of people notifying them of file transfers. These people are stored currently in an access database. Yes, my platform is winNT. There are other functions i promised to include but those are the main ones. Unfortunately, I don't even know where to begin. I know that zope has an FTP server so I chimed in "Of course we can do that, we'll use zope!!" I need some suggestions. -mjm

Thanks, it looks to be interesting. But I don't know exactly how to make it to work... I've imported the .zexp file in zope. Now I need a database connection. They say that it can be used with PostgreSQL (how can I install it ?) and also a product : ZPoPyDa. Adding text properties of a ZClass to PrincipiaSearchSource

I created some custom ZClass objects to publish Press Releases and News Items on our website. Since the submitters are nontechnical the objects use a large text property (STX_body) to hold the main text in structured text format. How can I add this STX_body property to the PrincipiaSearchSource? I would like to keep the site search simple by just doing a lookup on the PrincipiaSearchSource index. I would hate to have to create additional queries for other objects I created. Regards, Frank
