Hello all, I'm trying to parse input from a form to convert all string input to upper-case, before passing it on to a SQL method. So I created a DTML method to do this. In this 2nd DTML method, I call a ZSQL method to obtain the table's column names, then use the column names to access the corresponding values in the REQUEST. I must not be implementing indirect variable lookup correctly, because the script below produces the following error. How do I debug this? Thanks. External Methods and ZSQL

A few days ago someone posted something about using the ZSQL stuff from an extenal method, not calling existing methods but building it on the fly. Hi Casey and all Zopers, Great ! Now I have some limited security in DocumentLibrary... Documents are not protected! It seems that we need a check that will control if the user has access to any of the topics that document has, or maybe a more restricted option : that the user has access to all of the topics that document has. What I like the most in DocumentLibrary is the file name attached at the end of the file object. That makes the life alot easier in the M$ world. I have tried the CMF but got tried of Open/save dialogs ( and sometimes twice! probably an IE bug) Secondly to post a document to CMF you have to go three pages. I can understand the first one ( that can be a dropdown box with the type info ("File", "Folder" etc) ) but I see no reason to have one page for metadata and one for the file upload. Is there a reason that I miss for that complication? An "open console" means that somebody has to be logged into the machine for the script to run. Exit the logged in session, and all running jobs, background and foreground, get killed. That means that, since I have remote servers, I'd have to leave one xterm window running on my Linux workstation for each remote server, logged into the server via ssh or whatever. If my workstation has a power outage, that process on the remote server dies. No problem if I'm here every day, but if I go on vacation, there's no one else here who knows anything at all about Linux or Zope, and our servers go unprotected, and the people in California complain that they can't get to the intranet, and my boss complains to me. Or that's roughly how it happens. Perhaps a better way to think of 'an open console' is that the process (our script) expects to find a STDIN, a STDOUT, and a STDERR, which are normally attached to a display, also called a console. A daemon forks a child, which creates its own set of these, as well as sets up its own signal handler separate from the parent. This effectively disconnects the child from a display, so that when we close STDx (on the parent) and kill the parent, the child won't catch the signal to close that comes when we close the display by logging out. More or less, since I'm speaking largely from half-recalled theory, that's why just backgrounding, as well as simply starting a non-daemon script from an rc init script, as someone else suggested, won't work. However, I'm sure someone with more knowledge and experience could explain it in greater (and more exact!) detail. xml-rpc authentication

I am trying to use xml-rpc to get hold of some files uploaded to one Zope server, send them to another for some processing, and then have them returned to the first server. My difficulty is in the authentication part. I have read Amos' tutorial (http://www.zope.org/Members/Amos/XML-RPC) and understand that xmlrpclib.py in its standard form does not handle http authentication. My problem is that I'm not really that hot on python, so I don't totally understand how to implement Amos' BasicAuthTransport class. Where should I put this code? Do I need to make any more alterations (other than subclassing 'transport' as opposed to 'xmlrpclib.transport')? I had a go at getting things to work; here's what I did: 1) Made a copy of xmlrpclib.py named xmlrpclibx.py to play with 2) Pasted in Amos' BasicAuthTransport class code. 3) Changed the line in the 'Server' class so that it set 'transport' to 'BasicAuthTransport()' ... but I simply got a syntax error when I tried to 'import xmlrpclibx' in my external method. Can anyone help me out? thanks tim

users managing their own user details

How do I allow my users to _only_ edit their own user details? I have about 20 users who will have varying degrees of access to the Zope management area. All in the one users folder. I want to encourage them to change their password regularly. But I don't want them to be able to edit other user's details or even create acl_users folders, just edit their own details. I cant seem to work out how to do this. Tom
