ZSyncer, changed subobjects not visible on top

Hi, I want to notify the developers of ZSyncer for a small bug. The product is working really well in most cases but when an object is changed in a subfolder it doesn't affect the status of the folder container of that changed object. Example: Root(folder) ----Test(folder) index_html(DTML document) Lets suppose that we have two servers to sync. (SrvSource->SrvDestination) Lets change the content of index_html on SrvSource. We start an instance of ZSyncer product on SrvSource. This instance is checking for the root folder will mark the folder Test as OK -although an object which is contained by it was changed. Of coarse if we do a sync on that folder(Test) it will show that the index_html was changed and needs to be updated. I am not sure if it's a bug but I had to notify somebody. Best Regards

REQUEST question

Hello, I am using <dtml-tree> to display (and edit) the contents of an XML document. In this document several elements can have the same tag name 'item'. It can be that the person who is editing the XML doc has expanded and edited only one of these items, in that case the REQUEST object is containing a string. If more than one item are expanded, REQUEST contains a list of strings. How can my Python code processing the REQUEST know that REQUEST.item is simply a string or a list of strings ? How can I check the type/class of an object in Python ? Thanks a lot in advance, Philippe

Hi all, I've searching everywhere but get more confused as I read. I am creating a list from a number of <input type="text">. After submit the request object becomes: choice: ['one', 'two', 'three'] Next step, I want to view items through a <dtml-in> construction but it refuses to work. <dtml-in "objectValues(choice)"><dtml-var sequence-index><dtml-var sequence-item> doesn't return anything at all. But everything I'm reading says it should work. Using simply <dtml-in choice> returns of course an error that I cannot use a string as input. But since its properly constructed as a list, what does it matter? I'm lost. I also read about tinyTable product, but Im not sure that I need this. Can anyone help? Thanks, Paul Zwarts

ZClass with Renderable and DTML document doesn't work

I'm trying to create a ZClass that will call my own render function. The Zclass is derived from ZObject, ZDTMLDocument, _ZClass_for_Renderable The Renderable base class overrides __str__ to call a render function. I also modified it to overide __call__, but in any case when I view the document through a normal URL traverse, I only see the dtml being rendered, my render function is not called. -- Basically I want to create structured text documents, that when rendered actually call a Page Template to be rendered. If I associate my render function with a view, then view it from ZMI it's rendered correctly. I just can't seem to override the __call__ or __str__ methods of the underlying DTML Document.. HTTP authentication question

Hi all, I have a site that achieves user authentication from a home page by directing them to a restricted method causing the browser to pop up its default authentication window, and redirecting them back to the home page after a successful login. From what I've read, the browser will use HTTP authentication in this case. After the login takes place, I expect to be able to access the user name from AUTHENTICATED_USER.getUserName(). I am able to access the correct user name in some methods, but in others, the above method produces 'Anonymous User'. I've read in other mailings that the HTTP authentication scheme will only send authentication information for URLs that lie below the URL which originally caused authentication to take place. I've ensured the methods in which I want to access AUTHENTICATED_USER.getUserName() do, infact, lie below the URL which originally caused authentication to take place. Does anybody have information as to why AUTHENTICATED_USER.getUserName() will produce different results depending on where methods are accessed in the hierarchy - even if you are below the URL that caused the original authentication? Also if somebody has ideas for a better login strategy, feel free to comment. Thanks for the help

Using ZClasses programmatically

Hi, can anyone point me to a good ressource how I can handle ZClasses programmatically. I walked through 2 Zope books, but they almost only say something about creating and using ZClasses in the ZMI. What I need is information how I can use the objects in my code. Would Beehive's ZClasses Tutorial by a better point to start off. Is there a way to lookup an object by it's ID like ZODB.lookupObject(ID) to get an entry point für object access. TIA Frank

hi i made a (hopefully working) Zope product that will put a wysiwyg html editor on ie4.x and above. still in it's infancy, and would like some feedback, help, pointers. will put it on my Members page soon enough. meanwhile, get it at: http://www.kedai.com.my/TAE here's the README.txt ___________________________ What is it? TextAreaEditor is a WYSIWYG editor for the textarea. It works with Ie4.x and above. I lifted the DHTML editor (from somewhere, yes, i will tell them) and rolled a Zope product that subclassed DTML Document. Currently, there's no __init__ in the product. It uses default init (because i can't figure out how to add the __init__ when subclassing DTML Document/Method). Therefore, some properties are set up after instantiating the product. A pointer on how to make this better is sought. That's the main reason for this release. Also, i don't know much javascript/dhtml. so dont ask me those kinda question. Do give me the answers, though. :) What does it do? W3C and the Promotion of Fee-based Standards for the Web

On 16 August 2001 the W3C made public a proposal to substantially change their patent policy framework. Amongst the changes is support for a new licensing model (called RAND) that legitimises the W3C's role in developing and promoting standards that could require the payment of royalties. This is a substantial shift in the philosophical direction of the W3C and should be of extreme concern to anyone who values being able to implement W3C standards in a royalty-free manner. MySqlUser Folder problem with local roles

I am using mysqlUserFolder-0.6.0 and got stuck intoa a bad problem with local roles. When I give a local role for a user from the security tabs, somehow mysqlUserFolder doesn't respect it at all. When I write in dtml <dtml-if "REQUEST['AUTHENTICATED_USER'].has_role('Manager')"> I don't get what I want, unless the Manager-role is set to the user in the database - and then that setting is valid for the whole directory-structure, which I don't want. Help, anyone? -huima

CatalogAwareBase doesn't auto-reindex?

Hi, I'm new to Zope -- let me first say, I'm totally blown away! I come from a Java/JSP/Servlet world, and Zope is just blowing my mind! I am using the latest Zope release (downloaded and installed yesterday). I am trying to use ZCatalog, and CatalogAwareBase as a base class for my custom ZObject. I have successfully managed to get things straight so that my catalog notices whenever I create new instances of my custom classess (I had to call my catalog "Catalog"). The new instances correctly show up in the "Catalog" tab of my Catalog. However, I am having a terrible time trying to get the Catalog to automatically re-index objects when I modify them. I am using standard property sheet editor page generated in the Product config area for my object class. Is this the wrong thing to do? It's hard to imagine the usefulness of the ZCatalog without it being up-to-date when objects change. I guess I'm just used to the RDBMS world where this is completely expected behavior. I can't tell if this is a bug in CatalogAwareBase, or else if the documentation is lacking. Thanks, Bryan
